I pick up my cat by putting one of my hands underneath her belly, and other hand holding her legs! Shes so cute! Hi not to be that person but this is the most likes I’ve ever gotten, thank you sm!! Also please don’t reply to me saying it’s bad, it’s been a year and I know it’s bad.
I had an old cat who always loved being pet, brushed, sitting on a lap, or all around being touched, but he always started freaking out if you held him for more than 5 seconds.
Actually, cats are really different. This is good for beginner cat owners but i have divorced parents and my own cat at each house. One of my cats LOVES to be held like a baby, she loves for me to hold her back and she just flops. While my other isnt so floppy. He likes to be held with him laying his front halve on my shoulder. All cats are diffrent so take the time to see what your cat loves! 💗💗💗
This is the comment I was looking for. Just like people, every animal has their own personality. My cat does not mind getting picked up with both my hands under her front legs. I do that, then prop her on my shoulder to support her bottom with one of my hands. She never has a problem, even sometimes not wanting to be put down lol.
When my cat was injured by a dog,(I have outdoor cats) I had to pick it up by under the armpits. It looked like the dog tried to tear my cats belly out. It would have died if I hadn’t saved it. Me and my mom took it inside until we had the chance to take it to the vet. It luckily was saved and it looked like it never happend. I’m glad we could save it 🙂🙃
I pick up my cat by holding their butt with one hand, and holding their back as the lay against my shoulder with my other hand! All cats are different, and it’s just the way my cats enjoy to be held
I look after foster cats, so I regularly try to find out whether I'll be able to pick them up (just in case I need to put them in the transport box or something like that). The one I care for at the moment absolutely hates it, so I've immediately started feeding him in the box, so that I can lure him in if needed. If I need to take the food bowl to the vet with me, then that's how it is :D
i pick my cat up like a baby, and she often falls asleep. the problem is, she falls asleep so fast that when im just trying to get her out of my room i dont want to left go!!
Depends... I have twins and I can be too lazy to carry em twice, so I'll pick up them both :) Under my arms to still support them and sometimes just together on one side they don't care 😮
To an extent. Nature and nurture always battling it out, though! Also, males tend to be more affectionate whereas females are generally a bit more standoffish, even within the same litter, training them all to like cuddles equally. I see this first hand in the litter I just raised and still have 2 of (10 weeks old). My little boy loves to be held, comes for snuggles often, and purrs the instant you start rubbing his little head, and usually falls asleep that way. 🥺 My little girl will only tolerate it for like a minute, even when she's sleeping already😢 I raised them exactly the same way😂😭
Here’s a tutorial that might be helpful for what I do with my cat: •I put my body above him (I put one leg where his leg is, the next leg where his other leg is) •Then I bend down •Then, I put one hand at his stomach/belly/tummy and put the over on his tail (his tail then covers his backside so my hand isn’t going into his backside) • I then lift him up and I bend up again and he’s now in my arms. I have multiple ways on how I pick him up, if anyone wants to know just tell me and I’ll share
So i wrap around them. Cats tend to like it more if they feel secure and protected such as almost compleatly covered. So how i do it is support the back and front. Then i hug them tight enough to be secure but enough to breath
i use one hand to hold underneath their belly, and the other hand i put under their front paws so they can use my hand as a little "platform" to put their legs on because i heard they like being on solid ground.
Man if i had to pick up a cat i didnt know i wouldnt try to show it how unsure i am about it by “petting” it like that. Thats a good way to get effed up when you go to pick it up. Also how you pick them up depends entirely how they are sitting or laying. Overall just make sure as much of its body is supported as possible, and be confident. You have to let them know with YOUR body language that like it or not they’re about to get picked up. Obviously, if you know that cat doesnt like to be picked up or held, dont! Unless you have to.
I first time met my aunt's kitten. i saw him when he was just born. we met for the first time it was my first time picking a kitten. he was nervous too but he tapped my hand nervously and I tapped his hand too and we played trick games and he was in love with my hand lol he sniffed and licked my hands then showed his belly and played with my fingers uwuwuw his mom wasn't even bothered even we met after a long time and she is not my friend tho! she sniffed me too and let me pick, play and pet her child in front of her! that was adorable!
Most house cats aren't quite this big, but if they're small enough, I find placing your three middle fingers on the front of the cat in between their front legs, it's much easier to calm and control them (of course still supporting their little backsides with an open palm). With small kittens, you can do this one-handed, so it can come in handy
i found my sisters cat who hates being picked up actually loves being held like an extension as my arm next to my body like a mafia boss holding a tommy gun.
I usually put one hand under the stomach and put the other hand closer to the legs and pulled them at the same time, so she is balanced and comfortable
I thought this was my chance. I followed the video but my cat still HATES being picked up 🤣 I adopted her, over time she has let us pet her belly. Hopefully she’ll one day let us!
My cat got onto a chair I needed to move to play the Wii so I picked up the whole metal chair + 14lbs cat. He literally looked around, and went back to sleep while I moving the chair.
When I pick up my senior cat, her name is trixy a alway make sure when she’s laying down in another room, a pick her up or by around to the back, and I always face her stomach towards me because I want her to feel safe and secure
