Very informative, thanks for posting. do you think it’s 100% necessary to run coax to all rooms or will running to the main tv be ok?

Was this client doing in-ceiling speakers? I noticed you have the low voltage new construction brackets in place with the wire coiled inside/behind. How do you install the speaker with that bracket right there? If they weren't doing in-ceiling, what do you recommend doing for in-ceiling application? I guess my concern is that the speakers I purchased hook right into the drywall. Do I staple the wire in the joists/rafters before drywall, measure, and look for them later or is there a better way?

Have you guys done pre wiring for Landon Homes? I just went under contract with them to build a home in Frisco. They’re not going to break ground until late Feb/early March.

I noticed you are not running fiber optic cables to your homes. I know it is very expensive to do that, and of course there are homes that are doing it. I personally recommend running a piece of pvc to all your locations for networking and future proofing it. You don't need fancy or expensive pvc, use something like pex pipe used for plumbing maybe 3/4" to make it easier to get wires in. Maybe use 1" for any potential HDMI cables, the ends are so large. You don't really need to run them into your DATA boxes, I would use a Oatey Access Panel 14 x 14-in above the panel. Run the end of the pex into the opening behind the drywall, cover with access panel and remove panel when you need to upgrade or replace in future. That is truly future proofing.

I wonder why new homes aren't using conduit more often --- it really does give you the most options and also future-proofs your cabling needs

running 16/2 or 16/4 for each speaker?

I prefer 14/4. Thicker cable for less resistance and an extra speaker pair in case of damage/future use.

16/2 is fine for surround speakers. I don’t know what benefit an additional two cores would be in this application? Biwiring is not really relevant in a surround setup. If I had little faith in the contractors, maybe it would beneficial for backup purposes? But even then, if they drill or nail through the wire, it’s likely going to require that wire being replaced any way 🤷🏻‍♂️
