I needed this video! I bought a snuffer and it still creates smoke. So, I started putting lids on the candles to put them out instead. I hope this is safe.
@DetailedDream

Yes, the lid is perfectly fine as long as it isn't made of some sort of paper material.

@@DetailedDream That's good to know. I've been lid snuffing for speed and convenience but got super concerned for a minute there! The dippers seem like a great idea to pair with gift candles though.

I just wanted to share here that when I would use the lid to put my candles out the smoke would infuse into the top part of the wax and discolor it. Not very fun.

You can simply cover the candle with the lid that came with it or, any non flammable item. Allow it about one minute prior to removing the lid if necessary.

question: i just got a snuffer, when i use it do i have to submerge the sniffer all the way in the wax? how long do i cover the wick with the snuffer? what's the proper protocol?!?
@DetailedDream
@DetailedDream 2 года назад
Nope, no need to submerge it. The purpose of the snuffer is to take away oxygen from the flame. It should only take a second or two for it to go out. And If the snuffer touches the wax, no worries, you can always wipe off the residue :)

From what I've learned about candle making. Snuffing I believe puts it out. Trimmer is to trim wick off that's bad. The wax dipper is used for covering wick in wax. Believe it or not wicks get dipped in wax before adding them to jar or they won't burn properly.

I recently had lit a candle, and noticed that the flame was burning on the melted was and growing. I couldn't touch it because the flames had touched the metal edges, but the candle was next to a wall. I thought about suffocating it with an empty candle glass, but it was on a too narrow surface. Then it started melting the surface it was on. In a moment of panic I threw water on it, and for a split second saw as the flame rose. Thankfully the water put out the flame and the situation didn't escalate, but it left me shaken up, thinking about how it could've ended so much worse, and what would've I done then. Needless to say, I haven't lit those small candles ever since. And if I do, I'm going to have them in the small empty candle glasses. Nearly traumatic.
