So I bought a Tao Motor50cc Pony moped from Amazon the other day and it came brand new but the engine won’t start at all! I changed the oil and charged the battery and it still won’t go! What should I do? My engine is in a bind. Something must be jammed and it doesn’t work.

+Jojie Atayde What size engine is it? Did you drain all the fuel out and clean the carburetor? Chances are you need to do an entire fuel system cleanout and replacement: Clean / Replace Carburetor, Fuel Lines, Fuel Filter, Gas Tank [Use fresh 93 Octane Fuel after you get all the bad gas out]. I know this might sound basic, but did you run out of gas? I can’t tell you how many times someone messages me with the problem you are describing to find out they ran out of gas. Even if your fuel gauge says there is gas, double check. Very often it’s the gauge that’s messed up. If it’s not that, did you hit a bump or anything that might have caused the ignition coil spark plug cap to come off the top of the spark plug?

What is wrong with my gy6 moped after i get a heater on it to start it up it runs but after it sits for an 1hr then it won't start up again and i have to put the heater back on it to even start up again what causes that and how can i fix it cause i got all new parts on it and the motor is new ....so what is wrong with my moped?????

It's hard to say without having it in front of me, but my first thought is that it needs a valve adjustment. Do you know how to check the valves?

Marvven Baccouch If you hear the relay clicking but not connecting, that is usually a sign of a bad relay. The starter relay would need to be replaced. You have a full charge on your battery, correct? Battery is a possibility, but from your description, it sounds like it's probably an bad relay. Good luck!

Colin i have a 49cc vip tao tao future champion they upgraded it to a 80cc kit at blackjack mopeds in las vegas nv i bohght it w 2300 miles on it i hadnt drove it 500miles and the thing started to bog down it doesnt go fast anymore goes 5mph and backfires now wont even start and its been more than 3months sp my warranty is over i tried to take it to them but they didnt even fix it told me to come get it and theyre tired of looking at it i am heated cuz i feel i got riped off please help w any ideas

Mister Tonathy I think you should know that we don't sell those scooters in our store because they are poorly manufactured. :( Hopefully the 80cc kit you installed is higher quality than the stock parts that come on the VIP. When you upgraded, did you replace/adjust the carburetor? Did you replace the air filter with a performance filter? Did you replace the exhaust with a performance exhaust? When and 80cc kit is installed, it is best to replace these components as well. At the very least, you may need to re-jet your carburetor. Please check with Blackjack Mopeds and see if this was completed. If your scooter is bogging down when you give it gas, you have a fuel / air mixture issue somewhere. You just have to pinpoint where. [Side note for all viewers: If you upgrade to an 80cc kit, this classifies the scooter has a MOTORCYCLE (over 50cc) in most states and requires a Motorcycle License in order to operate. If you are operating the 80cc scooter without the proper license, you could get into some trouble, so make sure you are abiding your state's laws and have the proper license. Thanks!]

Repairing a Zummer scooter changed carb (19mm), new cdi, new air filter, new spark plug, changed oil, starts but won't get up to speed, and dies when I stop any idea of what is wrong

oldschool37ecj Sounds to me like you still have some Carburetor /Air flow problems. Is that the stock carburetor for the scooter? Have you tried replacing the jets with a different size. Is the air filter stock or aftermarket? These things can have a huge affect on the air / fuel mixture and it sounds like that is where the issue is. Thanks!

Aaron, it could be a lot of things, so it is difficult for us to help you. It could be something like a kill switch (or faulty kill switch) that caused it to lose spark. It could be something in the fuel system that is keeping it from getting fuel. I know it sounds like a silly question, but did you open your tank and make sure there was fuel in it. You would be surprised how many times I see a faulty fuel gauge saying there is fuel when there actually isn't any. Crazy things happen sometimes! Best of luck. If you give me more details, what things you have eliminated as being the problem, etc. I can try to help more. Thanks!

I have a TNG 50cc scooter. It is really hard starting. What should the air mixture screw should be set at? 2.5 turns out. 3? 4? Please help

Jack - Not as familiar with the TNG scooters, but I believe it is approximately 3.5. Is your scooter getting fuel and spark?

I just went on holiday, unplug my scooter battery and when I got back I decided to charge my battery before putting it back on to my scooter. so after I changed my battery, it leak a little bit, but I just ignore that and connect the battery to my scooter, once it connected, I tried to switch the key but the scooter was just not starting it doesn't even have the light on. Do you know what is the reason? Thanks

Sam Hah did you walk through our other troubleshooting videos? Could be a fuse. Do you have a volt meter? What's the reading on your battery? You hooked it back up correctly? (Red to positive black to negative?)

You over charged it. Never use a leaking battery. You need to replace the battery and figure out what’s wrong with your charging method. Better to test the voltage before you unnecessarily charge an already fully charged battery again.

chanakya arkasali It sounds like the gears behind your transmission case may be unaligned or stripped out. Remove the transmission case (probably 8 bolts) and see if you can see what the problem is. If you have trouble, you may need to find a scooter dealership / small engine shop in your area. Where are you from? Thanks!

Madisita if your rear wheel is not spinning when you give it gas, then your belt is most likely broken inside your transmission. You will need to replace it.

@@NewScooters4Less No. It’s almost always NOT a broken belt. If the engine is cold the high idle just makes the tire spin. Totally normal and extremely common. If it spins fast when the motor’s warm then your idle rpm are too high. If your belt is broken you can’t go forward at all - and that’s obviously not what this guy is experiencing

There are several things that could be your issue. I would start with the battery and work from there, but with the many variables involved, you may need to find a shop to assist with repairs. Thanks!

Yes I have fuel and spark. Once I get it running it runs great but its getting it started is a chore. The choke seems like its trying but not quite gets there. The carb is only a few months old. I have the needle set to the top notch. That is the only place where it will run well. What should be the idle mixture set at? How many turns out from all the way in?

How many miles are on the scooter? I always adjust the idle by ear. You know if it is too low or too high, you know? If you are getting good spark and getting fuel, you may need a valve adjustment. Do you have 2000 + miles on it and has an adjustment ever been made before?

Did you have to assemble the scooter or did you purchase it from a dealership? Provide me with a bit more detail and I will do my best to help you. It won't start at all? Maybe a clogged carburetor? Has it been sitting? Does it sound like it is bogging when you give it throttle?

My assumption would be that when you take it off the kickstand, a vacuum line or fuel line is getting pinched or something similar is happening which is cutting off air flow, fuel, etc. and causing it to shut down. There is also the chance that the clutch or something is stuck and engaged somehow causing it to 'stall.' I'd check those things!

Hey - thanks for the video have a 01 zuma that sat for 2 years, prior to that had a tune up, but now won't start. Checked carb, installed new battery, lights work (but no headlights), just won't turn over at all kickstarting. Still has old gas which we treated but my buddy that is helping thinks its electrical - maybe a relay? Anyway, what would be the most common cause / cure ya think? thanks!

Paul Barry If you brought this into my shop, we'd be removing ALL that old fuel, replacing the fuel lines and fuel filter, and cleaning or replacing the carburetor (whichever is least expensive, which for a Yamaha, I'd assume cleaning it is the least expensive way). When you clean the carb though, you have to take it all apart. Clean the jets and all components and get that baby looking like new again. Based on the fact it has been sitting that long, I'm almost 100% sure it is fuel related. Once you've cleaned the fuel system, put fresh 93 octane in the scoot and get a fresh battery to start electrically. I'd assume the battery is dead if it has been sitting a couple years as well and using the e-start will greatly help when testing/diagnosing further. I'd bet once you do those things, you will be in good shape. Hope that helps!

We do have a new battery, and did take the carb apart and it looked ok but honestly we may not have checked or cleaned correctly. also have not dealt w/fuel, lines and filter. Makes total sense. I would clean out fuel tank, replace the fuel with 93 octane fresh gasoline, new fuel lines and fuel filter, new carburetor, and new spark plug. That's essentially the entire fuel system and will hopefully clean that all up for you!

A scooter won't start for one (or more) of these reasons usually... It doesn't have spark. It isn't receiving fuel to the engine. It doesn't have compression. Start with these key things! Thanks!

Had it serviced 6 months ago,new plug,etc. I run premium gas in it.I have owned it since 2007 new,has about 3500 miles on it.Runs good. Will drive to work,park it out in sun. When I get ready to leave it won't start. Has no carb.Im in Illinois,temperture last 3 days in 90s.It happen the last 3 years.I ask the dealer and he was like I don't know!! Put it in office for nite and walk home,not far. In the am it will start!! And thanks for your time!!

Sounds like a valve issue. Maybe the heat is causing the value to tighten up. It's really difficult to say without having it in front of me :/ I would start with a valve adjustment.

israel rivera1 second agoI have a 49cc scooter. Was running great. Park it and the next day it wouldn't start. When you try to start it ,it turns. But when you open the throttle the motor tries to stop. Just like if ur battery was low. If you let go of the throttle it will turn over at normal speed. But wont turn on. I replace the spark plug. Checked for spark. Cleaned out the carb and adjusted the valves. What can this be?

+israel rivera You checked all your kill switches right? Have you watched all of the troubleshooting videos to eliminate these possibilities? Does it look like it may have been knocked over by someone at all? Could be flooded. Did you open the air box too and make sure it was all ok?

+israel rivera what I mean by checked it all is.i adjusted valves. And I have adjusted the valves on the scooter without a problem in the past. Bought a ngk spark plug and checked for spark.i bought a new fuel filter and checked for gas flow. Took out the carb opened it.took out jets and cleaned everything out.i have charge the battery.it turned on once for about 6-7 sec.maid a strange noise.but would not fire up again.

Yes! Many of the things could apply, but know that many things may not either (i.e. kickstarting, since you Vino 125 doesn't have a kick start)

Giving it a little throttle to help turn it over is ok, but you shouldn't have to give it full throttle or anything.

Hard to say. Check the vacuum lines and your air filter to ensure that there are no cracks anywhere.

Stanley Pilorge did you check the fuse? Make sure your ignition is plugged up too. May be unplugged!

Hey i do not know what is wrong I tried the battery but that wasn't it it has new fuses the only way i can drive it is if i use the kick start I looked under the hood of my scooter and looked at the wired to the ignition button but the wires are fine i need help bad

Dalton Crofutt If the battery, fuses, and ignition wiring is plugged in and all good, you need to check the wiring between the battery and starter solenoid and starter. It sounds like there could be an disconnect somewhere. Does the scooter get any power at all?? For example, when you turn the key are you getting battery power to the horn and blinkers?? Let me know if those work. Trying to narrow this down for you.

What kind of fuel is in it? Did you clean the fuel system? Carburetor? I want to help, but need way more info to steer you in the right direction. First things to check for: Is it getting gas? Does it have spark? Does it have compression?

hey Collins now the scooter runs I changed the battery to a performance battery and a NGK spark plug now I smell something burning and it cuts off once you stop. the scooter will crank again once it cools off but when you ride something smell s burnt HELP PLEASE

diamondrc13 How old is the scooter? Sometimes if the scoot is pretty new, you will get that smell coming off the exhaust. What kind of scooter is it? Make/Model?

diamondrc13 The smell should go away. There is sometimes a coating on the exhaust the burns off. Just to be sure, I'd just visually check thinks to make sure you don't see smoke coming from the engine. In terms of it cutting off, it's hard to say... does it cut off when you come to a stop sign? Does it cut off while your giving it throttle? I need more details.

OK it does well until you stop and sit then it starts to idle real slow and then it cuts off also when you pull the throttle and let go it will cut off. IT also makes a real low almost backfire sound when you let off the throttle

When i try to start the engine and the sound “HUH HUH" and keep hold the start until start.. When drive to uphill/flat and my scooter lose speed and the engine is turn off.. My scooter is 2017 Tao Tao racer 50. Why

Kin Wong I'm not sure I follow. After your scooter starts, let it warm up for a few minutes before taking off on it. Or hold the throttle enough to keep it from dying on you in those first few minutes. Sounds like the idle is low and it is cutting out on you because it hasn't had the chance to warm up. You can adjust the idle up a little if it keeps happening. Hope that helps.

I have a I have a two tao 50 it's hard to start and once I get it started it won't go over 15 miles per an hour... If I get it up to 25 or 30 it bogs down to 15.. change fuel line filter spark plug and air filter it doesn't help... Can you please help me

Hey Tony! Are you using 93 octane fuel? Make sure you are. It also sounds like you may need to replace the carburetor. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I've been having the worst luck with my scooter. Had mines for over 2 years and curently has over 5,700 miles on it. This year my headlights kept blowing up, had to replace the Regulator, but now my lights are too dim, and if I try to upgrade from a 25W bulb to a 35W it'll melt the housing, had to buy a whole new set! Next my kickstart, can't use it because the gears keep chipping and spent almost $100 for a brand new assembly, and still getting issues! Now my lever is loose since the screw that holds it broke off and I have no clue how to get the bottom piece of it out! Lastly, my battery barley lasts a week on my scooter with a 100cc big bore kit upgrade, and just recently bought a brand new battery just to end up walking 20 miles home in the cold! I swear I'm on the verge of just selling my scotter and start over with a new one!

@@NewScooters4Less Well I mean if I were to sell it I'd spend the money to replace the parts, that way I could sell it for more. But I have a PeaceSports 50. And yes, Chinese scooters suck. But at least the parts are cheap and easy to replace.

@@SegaDisneyUniverse Get rid of it as fast as you can, lol. I feel your pain man. Some Chinese scooters are good, but our experience with peacesports scoots as been TERRIBLE. In fact, in 2019 we aren't even letting people bring them to us for service because of the headaches we see with them. In our opinion, they shouldn't even be on the road, lol.

Well my local shop seems to kinda hate fixing them too (and sometimes they don't do a very good job, and are very rough on my vehicle...) despite that they sell them, and I'm one of their regulars, lol. But yeah, may as well try and get some money for it and save for a car or a real motorcycle, lol.

diamondrc13 Are you pulling the throttle? If you have it running, you should just turn the throttle (right hand) and it should move forward. Let me know when you're good to go!

I crank it up and pull the throttle towards me slowly and it doesn't move it just revs higher is there something I haven't taken a loose to make it move

New Scooters 4 Less I got a scooter for free and I'm trying to get it to run, I believe I have all the gas lines connected to their correct spots, but there seems to be a hose thats not connected to anything. looks like it's comming from the air intake and I cannot figure out where it may go.
