As the Trixie and Katya grand tour exits the green, moist forests of the Pacific Northwest and meanders east towards the lumps and bulges of the Rocky Mountains, we check in with our favorite role models to learn about penile hygiene, flatus consumption, and how to make a real difference in this crazy thing we call life. If you aren't properly motivated to better yourself, spread love to others, and join a cult after this episode, then perhaps you should stop listening to this podcast.

I just wanna say how grateful I am to these two for doing this podcast, especially since I honestly didn’t expect them to keep doing them while touring. Believe me I love UNHhhh, but I have to watch each episode in 2-3 minute chunks just because I have ADHD + Autism and my brain gets kinda overstimulated by the editing (no hate to Jeff and Ron, they’re geniuses at what they do!). I’m glad you two care so much about the unhoused and want to do something about it. Of course there’s advocacy, charities, voting, etc. but if you ever want to help and individual person or group of people, providing them with items/shelter is sometimes better than giving money. For instance, if someone is outside a grocery store or restaurant, ask if they’d like anything from inside so you can get it for them. Also: be mindful that when giving food, try to make sure it’s not too hard because if they don’t have good dental health, hard food can cause pain. Sometimes all someone needs is a meal taken care of, or a safe place to stay for a night, or a shower, so they can spend their time and energy on other things instead of basic survival.

I was doing 3-4 supply bags a week downtown (things like socks, underwear, gloves, female hygene products, razors, sani-wipes, food, water bottles, those mylar blankets Katya is obsessed with). The biggest thing to help is convincing local cities that the large unused indoor spaces can be converted to facilities for the homeless (locks on doors though for safety). Lots of stuff can be done at smaller levels for sure though.

as someone who is currently being housed by a youth housing program in the chicagoland area, it genuinely warms my heart that to hear these two acknowledge the housing crises in this country and trying to find ways to help. the best way in my opinion is to donate to local housing assistance programs and mental health resources for the unhoused. i am so so lucky to have found the program i’m currently being housed by. i think sometimes people forget that it really can happen to anyone, and finding the resources to assimilate back into society can be so difficult. also thank you trixie and katya for helping me through this really difficult period of my life and genuinely giving me a laugh and smile every time you appear on my screen. ❤

Great pod! I believe one of the best way to help the homelessness issues is to help fund mental health facilities and housing programs for people experiencing homelessness. Often times its not the person's fault, but the system is failing them whether they have mental illness or drug addiction or just ran out of luck or lost a job. So many people don't realize how much money it costs to go get a job or apartment, esp without a place to bathe or recieve mail.
@erinintechnicolourII
@erinintechnicolourII 2 года назад
Exactly, the biggest issues a homeless person faces are lack of housing and lack of mental health assistance, if they can look for non-discriminatory NFP housing programs and groups that can provide free mental health assistance, those would be the best places to receive their funds. That would be the best long-term service you can offer, Trixie & Katya, and you can then of course additionally help individuals if you see them. Having the details of these groups and programs would mean you can offer them to any individuals you see, which would be really valuable to a lot of people- a direct link to a service that can help you find housing and get some mental health aid. Honestly if it's something that you're experiencing this much, and are concerned about, it may be worth having somebody on your tour who can do the research and find the best programs and groups in each city, make contact with them about donations, get their details to pass along to people, etc. Thank you for caring, and not just looking away.

They also need to offer housing where you are allowed to bring your pet's because many rather stay on the street's if it means that is the only way they keep their pet(s) with them. Also their are homeless parent's out there and some of these parent's that are unspoken of are the single father's who rather sleep in their car and or van with their child(ren) then being at a shelter separated from them so they need a housing specially for these specific family situation's.. I speak from knowledge after being homeless on the streets of West Hollywood but fortunately I have family who is supportive and gave me a second chance of proving myself right and allowing me around my son after I had a mental break down n' lost myself on heavy narcotics and stayed on the streets for a couple year's.. On the side note they also need to offer some kind of specialized program for homeless to reconnect with their family and with counseling/therapy of sorts between the person & there family they can slowly get them off the streets this way if any of that makes sense.. I know personally if my family would've rejected me and not given me that second chance of being able to prove myself I honestly would've gone back to the streets and drugs hence loosing myself for good because all hope is all lost..

One way to help the unhoused is by supporting legislation that supports proven methods of aiding those with addiction. Clean needle programs, designated safe drug use places, and free drug safety testing save so many lives. It might seem like offering a place to literally do drugs wouldn't help get people off drugs, but it works similarly to clean needle programs, while reducing deaths from overdose. Go figure, treating addicts like humans with a medical condition helps the most. Legislation for these programs often face heavy opposition because they don't "punish" addicts or it's seen as enabling.

Homelessness has been particularly prevalent during the pandemic, so supporting non-profits is really important if you're in a position to do so. Here are some options off the top of my head, since Trixie was asking for tips: This isn't San Fransisco, but The Other Ones Foundation is a non-profit in Austin, TX that supports the homeless through housing, work opportunities and other humanitarian aid. There's also Operation Tiny Home, which builds small houses for the homeless (I believe that's national, but I'm not certain).

Wanting the help the unhoused people brings a tear to my eye, as I feel the same way. I love you Trixie & Katya, thank you for talking about it. WTF can we do to help!? I am in Portland, OR and the housing-challenged struggle is real here, in all cities, and everywhere in between. There are many "grass-roots" as well as corporate/ public efforts being made to address/help the situation- If anyone has suggestions/links to share, for any city, please leave a comment. Seeing the shear quantity of people struggling and the lack of tax-dollar-run mental health and housing assistance programs is disheartening, to say the least. I think keeping the conversation going is always a good way to ensure attention is given to things (maybe "duh", but wanted to say it anyway). As a society, we must not turn our backs on our fellow humans, spread understanding and education, and increase taxes on the super-rich (basically the opposite of what the previous "presidential" administration of ssshe-who-must-not-be named did to our county)!

Pretty sure when I went to the Bend Oregon airport to help a friend move from there, I was the ONLY black person there because everyone was staring at me as if they had never seen a black person before. I even had the cops called on me while trying to help my friend move because they though were “robbing” the place she was MOVING OUT OF. I haven’t gone back since. Beautiful town but it’s not for people like me. I’m a tall black girl with colorful dreads, and my best friend/sister is a tiny white girl with bright red hair. We look like Rob and Big gone wrong and we wouldn’t have it any other way 🤣🤣

Trixie making full eye contact with the camera and completely serious: don't put that in Editor: hahaha Anyway, ladies thank you so much for doing this. I had mentally prepared myself for not seeing anything new from you two (except of course when I see your show September 9th!!!!). Trixie made a TCTV video on tour and now a podcast episode from the road. You two are such hard workers and extremely generous. It would have been rough to go from about 5 Trixe and/or Katya videos a week to zero, cold turkey. You ladies are the best!

Seeing a lot of comments here Katya’s back on some ish, I just think ppl need to calm down. I buy her thermogenesis explanation. She’s been frank about still trying things post sobriety that aren’t idk…hard drugs…things are slightly more manic in parts here than usual but not ridiculous.

all of these comments are absolutely vile and disgusting to see. NO ONE, especially if you don’t actually know the person in question, has ANY right to speculate, comment on, or attempt to dissect someone who battles the nightmare of addiction’s recovery trajectory. Not only is that deeply invasive and exploitative of an extremely personal and very delicate issue, but it can also be extremely damaging to the person you’re so gruesomely violating. Not to mention, if you’re going to ignore the rest of that point, at least be aware that doing this can gravely impact someone in recovery’s motivation, self esteem, and overall psyche and potentially cause a ripple in their recovery. mind your business. it’s really that simple. if you’re worried, do something kind instead of making published speculations. comment and say that you hope she’s enjoying her time on tour! if she’s visibly glowing, comment that! tell her she looks amazing! tell her you hope she’s thriving and happy! those are such easy ways to express care and concern without being patronizing and invasive.

if someone who’s been very public about their desire not to use speed acts as though they’re using speed (sniffing, rubbing gums, repeating words, mania) i don’t agree with you that non-abusive comments of genuine concern about it are damaging. i’d rather say something and have that person know they’re coming across in a concerning way.

@@hellopoodles to ppl you actually know irl maybe. Not to people that you actually don't know, despite what you may think, online. It's in the same vein as commenting on someone's weight and whether or not they have an eating disorder: crass, uncalled for and not your business.
@juliacastro8505
@juliacastro8505 2 года назад
@@hellopoodles How about keeping our concerns about people's mental health online to ourselves? Its like every time someone who openly has some psychological issue does anything considered out of their normal by others, - who literally only know what they post online - they're flooded with "concerned" people questioning their sanity. Every time Britney Spears posts anything people comment she's not fine, when she's just having fun dancing around lol Its annoying af, public people, just like us, have friends and family and co workers in their lives to do that for them, they don't need strangers who don't even know them. Also, addicts couldn't care less about some online people concern.

I'm so happy to hear you guys ask what you can do for homelessness in SF. I tweeted this as well, but something you can consider is contributing or coordinating something with Urban Alchemy SF! They're an org that employs formerly unhoused and unstably housed people to provide services and clean up directly in the community. Last time I stayed in a hotel near the tenderloin they were everywhere and it seemed effective. Another thing you can really do with your platform is advocacy!!! You have a huge audience, you can bring someone from UA or another org to talk about homelessness in your pre-show, your lobby, or on your podcast. Humanizing the homeless and helping everyone understand that it can happen to anyone and that these people are deserving of our attention and compassion is a big big push.

I help with local free food pantries and supply drop offs in my city! Im city is smaller but close to LA, so mutual, direct aid like supply bags, money, local orgs (probably around universities), needle exchanges, help so much. But also advocating for unhoused people against city govs and police departments help on a more structural level as well!

Find mutual aid groups that work near where you live and become regular fixtures/contributors/volunteers. Those are boots on the ground that give tangible support directly to the people needing it, not 2+ times removed via organizations like united way

That whole sex convo really only applies to gay sex encounters in case yall were wondering😂 a lot of straight sex involves the dude not giving a fuck what kind of time the girl is having, they just wanna get off in whatever way suits them. I think that's what usually constitutes being "bad in bed" for us. If a man simply faces me during sex, kisses me on the mouth, and asks me if he can do something before he does it I'm in his DMs for weeks

Former homeless non-profit employee here. The best way to help is to donate to local, grassroots non-profits and boost there signals. If you want to volunteer make a long term commitment, babysitting short term folk is a huge waste of time. If you want to donate stuff make sure it’s nice/good repair,folks deserve nice things, not your old shitty stuff. Essentially find the people that know what they are doing on the ground level and give them the money to do it.
