Thanks. Red columns are Stub Columns. Stub columns are located below ground level to avoid long spans of grade beams and in places where the soil condition is not enough strong for load bearing structure and not too less strong for framed structure. Stub columns are provided in such places to minimize the construction cost.

5” thick walls are generally provided in partition walls only. External walls should be 10” thick. 5” thick walls are not structurally safe if they are beyond 7 feet height or carry some imposed load. That’s why I recommend that all the walls should be 10 “ or 9” thick. The reason for this the tendency of walls to buckle. Tendency increases as the height of the wall increases and the load also increased. So reinforced cement concrete (RCC) bands are provided in 10” walls. Because bands are required to offset the tendency of buckling or earthquake safety. SHre me your email Id, will send you some more details.

Those are stub columns & stub columns are provided below ground level. It maybe middle of window or door or anyplace. In this video I tried to make understand how to provide columns. But it's up to you that you can give less or more columns.

Nice one and is very useful. I am not a civil man. I have one basic question to ask. You have given the same plan for the first floor also which is correct based on columns in the ground floor. Though we should maintain the same columns , can we construct different size rooms and adopt different plan for the first floor ? Or should we need fresh columns for the different plan there ?

Thanks for watching. Yes of course you can construct different size of rooms, but all rooms should be designed as per existing columns of ground floor. You can't change existing columns of ground floor. If you want to change column position then you need to change ground floor column position 1st.You can't keep different column positions for ground floor &1st floor plan. You can change room size but existing column on ground floor will be same on 1st floor. So according to ground floor column you need to change 1st floor plan if required. you can also add extra beams as per requirement if column position is not supporting your new plan.
