I didn’t own a jade plant, but I learned a lot about them watching your videos. In one you said something like “everyone should try a jade plant” so next time I saw one, I bought it (little tiny thing for $4). I must say I really enjoy watching it grow, especially because it doesn’t require a lot.

This is the information I've been looking for. I've two Jade plants and I want to prune them to get the wood stems.
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 2 года назад
The woody stems come naturally as the plant grows and ages. Pruning itself doesn't necessarily give you the woody stem....it hardens up the older it gets!

I purchased a jade and right about the same time my friend gave me a couple small cuttings. I watched a previous video you did on pruning and now I have another cute little jade🪴. Next I decided to try leaf prop in a tiny pot and now I have the two tiny pots of jade 😀…it’s addicting and fun to watch. Thanks for sharing and for your good advice.💚

It is very addicting once you have a first successful prop! I have given away a ton of cuttings over the years 🤣 Congrats on your success.

@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 2 года назад
I honestly don't pay attention to the leaves. If they remain wet they may not root and may actually rot. That's why it's a good idea to place them on a seperate pot or tray....but you don't have to.

Thanks for the update, Jeff! I followed your advice re: your last video and have tiny new growth on mother plant, my three chopped propagations in soil have tiny roots (tugged on them and they came out, oops) and the leaf props have tiny roots too! Not as much growth as you have, but for a first attempt I think I’m on the right track. Great tip about the higher nitrogen content fertiliser. I’ll try it.

I always thought Jade was a boring succulent until I found your channel. Now I live the Jade updates and they always make me want one, but I don't have the lighting I don't think. They're too beautiful and small to be swallowed up by a grow light.

@@EverythingPlants so what you're saying is I need a beautiful Jade bonsai with bright lighting to fill my home with light and peace? Possibly a meditation corner? 🤔 Have you tried those halo looking grow lights? I think they get poked into the substrate and then look like an angel halo above the plant. I've seen them on Amazon and thought it was interesting but not for my tall plants, but it may actually be perfect for something like a Jade 🤷🏼‍♀️

I appreciate the answer in advance… if you had an old tree that needed a hard prune, would you want to do it when the leaves were full and stiff or dry and wrinkly? How will the cutting respond to callous and new root growth? What does that cutting and mother plant want for water? I ask because I picked up a 20-30 year old Gollum today and it needs a serious hard prune. The cuttings will be beautiful new plants someday. Great videos btw.

@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 2 года назад
I wouldn't go too large for jades as they typically don't need large pots. I'm not sure the size of your Jade so I can't recommend a pot size.

How deep should I stuck the jade cuttings below the soil 13:00 to get them rooted after the cut is healed ? Is jiffy pot any better or worse to grow the cuttings?
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants Год назад
As long as there are a couple nodes underneath the soil and it remains upright then you're good to go

@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants Год назад
Nothing....it could be from higher humidity is your environment or it may be needing some water. If the leaves are nice and plump then it is fine
@DionneRoxanne

I'm ready to prune my one and only jade plant and want to make sure I give the cutting the best possible chance of rooting. When you put the cutting in soil do you need to bury a node or does it simply root regardless of where you cut?
@KC-gj4bi
@KC-gj4bi 2 года назад
Bury a node
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 2 года назад
Hey Dionne. When potting a stem cutting just make a hole and depending on the size of the cutting, make sure there is enough stem so that it remains upright. That's pretty much all I do. Usually there will be at least a node or two covered and that is fine. Does this help?

My Jade plants are filling up their pots. Do you recommend repotting them to thin them out?
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 2 года назад
If your care hasn't changed then you could definitely leave it if you wanted. Jades make wonderful bonsai plants because of their small root systems and can tolerate small pots. If you are noticing leaf drop or having to watering more frequently then normal....consider repotting. If everything is okay then you can just leave it alone to grow! Is it one stem or multiple in one pot?
@beverlydeardurff5366
@beverlydeardurff5366 2 года назад
My oldest one is in a terracotta pot. I don't water it until it's completely dry. I use a chopstick. It has dropped a couple of leaves and they're showing growth. I've just left them in the pot. The other one is still in its plastic pot and it's just packed so much that I can't even see the soil. I'm interested in bonsai. Also, I've got an elephant bush succulent. I've moved to Michigan from Ohio to live with my mom. She's 91 years old, legally deaf, and has had two aorta valve replacements. All my potting supplies are in Ohio. We're planning on making a trip down there. My husband's been taking care of my plants, but he's not a good plant person. Hopefully, they're still alive. I even left him with care instructions.

I used to have a variegated one, but I had to thin out the collection as I had way too many. There are the 4 (mother plant, my cutting and my two kids cuttings) that I couldn't part with. I also have another pot with multiple stem cuttings that I wanted to keep...oh and plus I have the gollum jade. Hahaha
