Succulents misbehaving?? Here's a little discipline! It's Your Succulent Tip of the Day. With Laura Eubanks at Design for Serenity. Follow me on: Instagram @lauralovessucculents Facebook @design for serenity
Ma’am!!! You just helped me make my garden look so happy after 4 years of sad, sloppy succulent messes all over. Thank you thank you!!! I wish I’d known it was this easy all along, I would get overwhelmed just thinking about where to even start. But it’s been 3 months since I followed your advice here and the difference is like night and day. So glad I stumbled on this channel. Much love from New Mexico :)
For any newbies watching this: Unless your plant has rot you do NOT need to prune it what so ever. Succulents will always grow how they are supposed to, and only need you to step in if they are dying or diseased. You can prune them and cut them up, but you never need to. Just know that.
Ya you absolutely do not need to. She is doing it in this video because she wants to maintain a certain look for the area (stems in this case do not look as attractive).
I agreed. It does not look like it was necessary for her to do that. It all looks pretty to me. Now she threw some to them away and it took 3 years to get that big
I followed your videos and cleaned up my succulent yard. It looks amazing and clean. They were getting leggy and looked like a big hot mess and neglected. Once I had of them cleaned and trimmed all stems and replanted I got so many compliments by the neighbors. Your channel inspired me to up keep my succulent garden and keeping them nice and neat because sometime too much of something doesn’t always look attractive. Thanks Laura!!
This video has such mixed reviews! If Laura has taught me anything it is to admire my plants but not be attached to them- hence why it’s so easy for her to clip and prune away! My heart was hurting but I think it’s so logical for her, she just trusts that good gardening care will eventually bring those plants back to flourish! Thanks Laura for these informational videos! Love love!
I understand as a professional she needs to focus on the end goal of making it look as cohesive and beautiful as possible, and it does look wonderful. I only have a private collection so I'm very attached to my plants, so I'm super careful. It's incredible what Laura can do but I'd never let her touch my plants lol if I had her job I'm sure I'd be the same way though, fast and efficient
I like big trunks and I cannot lie, you other gardeners can't deny, cause when a ovata walks in with an Itty bitty leaf and a round thing in your face you get green thumb.....
y’all gotta understand the difference between *collectors* and *decorators* . Watch her other videos, she has almost *hundreeedsss* of succulents I’m sure scrapping one more isn’t bad!
I found that very interesting. I have lots of scruffy succulents on my balcony. I will tidy them up and taking the comments under consideration keep the stems for more babies.
Thank you for getting to the business of trimming and propagating right away, many videos on this matter are all face time and blah blah and no action. Excellent advice.
I have a HUGE succulent that has so many really long "leggy" stems. Do I cut them off like she did or not? What should I do to repot it? I'd hate to kill it after years of growing. 😔
@@AnastasiaDaleiden you can cut off the head off. Let it sit somewhere shady or cool and dry for few days to calluse the cut end. After that you can put on top of soil, pot or ground. You can water when it grows new roots, about 3 weeks around this time. You will lose some of the bottom leaves because plant uses them to thrive while growing roots. It is called be heading.
@@AnastasiaDaleiden You can also pot the long stems and roots from original plants they will grow new offshoots pretty soon.It is called stem propagation. Good luck
Wow, I am impressed! Learned a lot from your video also. I had to move into town from the country for my health and these succulents have become my new hobby. I love all the different colors! I did not realize these plants could just be trimmed, stuck in the ground, watered and would continue to grow. Guess I have a lot to learn! Have to say, your husband is a very lucky man! Have a great day and thanks for the video.
Thanks! I watch your show all the time. Love what you do. I miss so many things about CA, I am doing my best in Utah to xeroscape, Not really sure what I'm doing but so far it is looking pretty good. I am sticking to mostly sedum and thyme. I root softer succulents for the summer. I hope I get cuttings before they freeze this year. It's hard because everything is looking it's best when I am supposed to do that. I will remember this video for inspiration. Anyway, keep up the great work! your fan, Kimba
Hi Laura: I binge watch your videos and I am always in awe of how beautiful those succulents are and I wish I could have a garden like that. But, I live in Maryland so I am fairly new to growing succulents been just a few months. But, I long to get some of those beautiful plants to add to my collection. Enjoy watching you. LOL
Thank you, this was very informative. I just got a few pups and a few young succulents that appear to have grown out of being considered pups. If the succulents I got do well, I will eventually have to prune them and this video did a good job on how to do so.
Hi, I'm just starting a new passion and its growing succulents and cacti. They are just lovely and stress reliever. Your videos are very helpful and at the same time challenging me to be patient with my succulents. Keep on making videos on how to's. Love lots, from the Philippines.
Love your video . I'm new at this I'm glad I came across this video. Because I had a succulent that grew and the stem was thick and start falling , so I cut it and put in soil right way three days ago . I thought I done wrong after watching another video . ( it said something about let it dry out for few days first , so as watching your video I have hope that it will go :) because your plants n garden are soooo beautiful! , when u start cutting ..I was like Nooooooo! Omg they already beautiful , but they turn out even more pretty , I'm adding this video to my favorite .n each time I plant or check on them this will be my first video to come to first . Thanks again for schooling us . Lol :)
Your videos are so helpful. I have several succulents that are overgrown and not so attractive anymore, but I wasn't sure what to do with them. Thank you. I love your design videos too. I live in Fresno where it is very hot, but most succulents grow fairly well
you can also grow from the stems if theyre still green and especially the stumps with roots. theyll grow new plants just like the leaves do during propagation
Wow I would have thought you put the huge stem into the soil as a new root system but you just cut it and chuck er in the bin Any reason why? Wouldn't it shoot out new roots?
also you just don't cut the plant and stick it in the dirt. you have to let the root callus for a couple of days or the plant will die if you do not do that.
im taking care of my sister's succulents as she's off at basic army reserves bootcamp...she handled red phase well >-< but got stress fractures because i think i handled her cacti incorrectly...( i believe the cacti is her body pretty much...>^> )( we have 3 kinds, theres a flourished fanned out succulent i think is her soul and then theres a stiff but colorful cacti with petals wilting and a fetal positioned stone shaped into a woman with a succulent growing out of her head which i think of as her mind... )
Ayyye also make sure if you decided to do this you let your plants callus over where you cut them, it should take about a week. If you dont they will most likely rot.
I'm so very very glad this popped in my feed! I've got 2 succulents for the first time and I was wondering what to do with the "blooms" and worried when one fell off. 🙈 I've got a lot of binge watching to do on your channel I see.
