I have swapped the mSATA drives from the Samsung Portable T5 (2TB) with the Samsung 860 EVO mSATA (1TB) that I had used in my laptop. Here is one thing to let others know, once you do that Samsung Portable SSD application will no longer recognize the T5 (even if there is a Samsung drive inside, just another model), so you will not be able to use their encrypting feature, and also the drive originally from the portable T5 when put into an mSATA slot of your laptop is not supported by the Magician software, it won’t let you run benchmark, diagnostic scan, overprovisioning and performance optimization (rapid mode), the mSATA card is still seen as “Samsung Portable SSD T5” by the system/drive utilities, not as “Samsung 8x0 EVO” as we would expect and also has a different firmware numbering.
So we can't try it on Samsung SSD portable T7? Ok thanks I was just about to disassemble it but after reading I don't want to take the risk. Thank you very much
I got 4 of these a couple of years ago when half price (500Gb models). Sold one at cost to help someone out, and thinking of taking one apart to use the drive elsewhere.
Kingspec used to have some very aesotheric SSDs IIRC, having a pcie bridge/controller on the SSD, letting you mount a SATA SSD on a (non mSATA) mPCIE. Hardly ever needed, but a curious thing.
