When you drive in Switzerland, eventually you will need gas. Filling up your car or rental car at a gas station in Switzerland can be tricky, but it's easy if you know your petrol. Although Switzerland is a small country, and you might think you won't have to fill up, you most probably will. Here is a quick guide to what to put in your tank:
Unleaded, the pump is dark green:
ROZ 95 (Unleaded 95) = Bleifrei 95, Sans Plomb 95, Senza Piombo 95
Unleaded, with higher octane, the pump light green:
ROZ 98 (Unleaded 98) = Bleifrei 98, Super Plus, Sans Plomb 98, Senza Piombo 98
Diesel pumps are black.
Enjoy your trip in Switzerland!

Thank you for explaining the color coding of the pumps. In the United States we use the opposite (of course) so Green = diesel and Black = gasoline. Also, it is interesting that payment is made at a central machine rather than at the pump itself.

Hi, the video is very helpful, thank you so much. I was searching for gas stations near Grindelwald and Zermatt, and while reading Google reviews, I noticed that many stations take a deposit, and it takes a long time to get the refund. If possible, could you recommend any gas stations that do not require a deposit?
@SwitzerlandInsider
@SwitzerlandInsider Месяц назад
Good point! You want to look for gas stations with a shop attached such as coop pronto or migrolino. These are name of the shops. So i would spontaneously do a google maps search with satellite to see if there is a gas station with these shops (not always the case). Shops are open late, so this should solve your problem i hope 👌😊

If you want to pay by person, do you fill up first or pay first?
@Fritzoune

If there is a site worker, you fill in up, then pay the right amount of money at the counter. It is the opposite from the USA. some pumps are like in this videos sometime, even of there is some guys working onsite, you use the machine to pay.

This is a real incident that happened to me, I fueled up at a ENI pump in the night in Lucerne and it was self operating one because it was late night I gave the machine 100CHFs and it gave me a coupon of remainder amount , I tried to get it refunded in Zurich but it seems it just happens in French side or depends on Canton to Canton.

Rohan Singh thanks for your insight! A lot of gas stations work on a franchise contract, with different companies in the back. Therefore I can imagine that this could happen! So it means you need to come back for another holiday? 😉

So you dont pay at the pump but at a central machine? How do you know which pump to use if there are more than one? Thx!

You select the pump you want to pump at. They are numbered, you cannot miss it 👌

Hi, we are going to Switzerland with an LPG car, how does it work in that case? in our country we cannot refuel ourselves and I have to go to the station attendant. I've never refueled myself and never with LPG, so I'm a little worried about how this system works here.
@SwitzerlandInsider
@SwitzerlandInsider 2 года назад
I dont know either but we dont have gas stations where a guy fills your tank. You do it yourself. When it comes to lpg, i think its a safe mechanism, so you shouldnt worry too much. Maybe you find a youtube video about it! Nevertheless you should know that lpg is not that common here and the network of gas stations that offer lpg is small!

Hi How about the electric car ⚡️charging station in Lucerne, Bern and Interlaken? Is it hard to find them? Any reduction in electric car parking in the city? TIA
@SwitzerlandInsider
@SwitzerlandInsider 4 года назад
Switzerland is a bit backwards when it comes to electric cars. Sometimes you can charge for free when parking (e.g. Schweizerhof Parking in Lucerne). Also you can use the fast chargers at Lidl supermarkets for free. If you travel to Switzerland by EV let me know where you want to go and what kind of range you have and I can point you in the right directions. 👌😄

@@SwitzerlandInsider Noted about fast chargers at Lidl ! In April, with Tesla Model 3 Performance, we'll plan to visit Lucerne, Interlaken, Bern and maybe other beautiful places around in Switzerland. Let's say a road trip to Switzerland 😃. As we are on vacation, we prefer to across the countryside than take a highway or toll from France. I will be glad to get some directions and tips from you. I watched your videos and it helps a lot.👍🏼
@SwitzerlandInsider
@SwitzerlandInsider 4 года назад
This sounds amazing!! You can easily use the supercharger network and even if you need to pay its priced at Swiss electricity home rates, so no overpaying there. What you can do, if you have the time, deactive the highways in your navi and even if you take the road next to the highway through the villages, you experience will be much greater. Also check out Andermatt. From there you will have the chance to join a few mountain passes in different directions in the Alps. And let me know if you have more questions 😀 thanks for the feedback 😌

You authorise the credit card on the machine and fill then. Or you can put in a bank note and it fills to the amount you inserted

hey ed, any petrol car has got a 12V battery that is not sealed off and an equal hazard. the very car in the video is a hybrid, so it needs gas sometimes.
