Hey guys! There’s a few ways you can spool BRAIDED line on a baitcaster. You can tie it through the holes on the spool or use electrical tape. In this case I used backing in this video since I didn’t have a full spool of braid. I hope this helps!!

Braided line can also be tied through holes or if you wrap it around twice over a layer of masking tape it’ll also stay put. Key is giving the braid something to hold to. Also you have to spool at about your max drag you plan on using or 1/2-3/4 line strength or you’ll get braid bite

Exactly. I’ve been doing this for 20 years now. Just a tiny strip, I’ve never had a line slip. I’ve had lines backed by Cabelas/BP slip on me, because kids are dumb, and nobody else but kids and retirees work for them (this is because of their awful employee staffing practices and the way they prevent people from working full time, and understaff stores, so nobody can afford to work for them, in Canada at least). A piece of tape people! And give your money to mom and pop tackle shops wherever possible!

If you have a small size spool, or don’t want to do a mono backing, or just want to maximize your spool capacity. Use electrical tape! Just do your normal line to spool knot then add a short or decent length of electrical tape over your knot and make the tape flush to your spool and line; and then spool your reel up. Works for me and I have not slipped or had any issues 🎣

Braid should always be put on wet and under much more pressure than your fingers can provide. If you put it on loose the first time you catch something decent the line will cut into the line below and bind. Putting on wet via a wet towel removes all the waxes and excess die from manufacturing.

I’ve been a fishing guide for 10 years and I can tell you that If your braid is slipping on a modern bait caster, you’re spooling it on improperly OR you’re reeling in when the line is too slack. BUT also cheap braid can lead to this type of problem as well.

I don’t fish bait casters or conventional gear in general but on spinning gear backing is useful for when you’re getting spooled, I even use it on braid ready spools because mono does better under extreme resistance due to it being able to stretch, also it’s cost effective as well and it helps with keeping the braid from digging into itself under immense pressure, but I’m sure some fishing gurus on here will say “I’ve been fishing for 60 years and never had that happen with braid” but it’s not like grandpa ever told stories of catching world record fish, well at least none that he can prove lol

Backing isn't just for the line not to slip on the spool. It's so you don't have to put 300 yards of braid on a reel at a time. You are only casting with 50 yards max so you only need 100 yards of line at a time. You can calculate (or find an online calculator) the amount of mono backing to use first to then put on the 100 yards of braid. This gives you the weight of a full spool so you can cast further and more efficiently without the cost.
@austinhernandez2716

@mikedeguzman1

I add some electric tape on the reel then add the braided line. It allows the braid to “bite on” the tape and avoid slippage
@SuaSponte75
@SuaSponte75 Год назад
The backing also help the Braid lay flater on the spool. Slipping doesn't only happen on the spool directly but 1/2 down on the main line in the spool... less Braid on the spool help with that. Even pros state 40-50 years of backing, then main line on a normal baicast spool that holds 110-120 yards of 12lb test.

You don’t have to use backing at all with solid spools or with holes, use your wife/girlfriends or moms fluffy sock and put it around your hand and create so much tension so you can barely reel in your reel and keep on doing that until your spool is full. You shouldn’t be able to stick a finger nail in between the braid and boom non slip braid and it also makes it so flipping and pitching is smooth like butter dude.

The line visibility is irrelevant. All colour wavelengths are absorbed by the water, each colour wavelength is absorbed at different depths until only blue goes last (that’s why water is blue and so is the sky). Fish don’t take any notice of the line in the water, it’s just another bit of weed to them.
