Cutting away from yourself probably does reduce the chance of getting hurt if you're putting a lot of force into the cut, and your blade slips. (Ideally, sanding the edge will make it so you don't have to put much force into the cut). But yes, cut away from yourself if you feel safer that way, and for the younger skaters out there, ask a friend/family to help if needed
You missed an important part. That’s making sure the blade isn’t dulled out. If it’s dull even with everything else correct, you’ll end up with very choppy cutout.
I used a used blade and finally said F it and put a new blade on. I find the hole process easier if you lay your grip flat in the sun while you get roller & knife
I love doing shitty grip jobs just because it pisses my friends off so much. And to all the people saying don’t cut towards yourself, as long as you aren’t a moron it’s fine lmao
Use a grip roller or sometimes i use a 4" 🎨 roller, lay down the grip flat in the sun to get out any wrinkles while you get everything ready. I usually pull back half the grip @time and start kinda in the middle and roll out
