Excellent videos. I especially enjoy you including the tools/methods for the DIY persons. Knowing we don't need the sophisticated, professional setups to successfully re-grip a few clubs is a big help. thanks again... (and enjoy your "conversational" mode of presentation 👍)

So. Years ago I watched one of your videos so I could find out how to change a shaft. Fast forward to now, I've spent a pile of money on tools. I've watched all your and Roger Maltby videos and read a pile of books. I'm hooked. I love building clubs for myself, my friends and now have a few "customers". Thanks for your videos. It really inspired me to take up such a gratifying hobby I can do for the rest of my life. I love this game and seeing what differences are made when I tweak things in my builds. Thanks again!

Just got back into golf after 10 plus years. My daughters are starting to play too. Had to figure out how to do this to save time & money. I started with the double sided tape and grip solution. Got the Winn DriTacs on with little issue on graphite shafts. Tried to put a golf pride MCC plus 4 on a SS wedge and it only went on half way. Talked to a golf smith at golf galaxy who told me to use a compressor (what he does at home, not work). I had the equipment so I gave it a go. One layer of regular masking tape, twirled and capped the end, dipped the tip of the grip in mineral spirts, got it started, hit it with the air, BOOM! SO EASY and zero mess. Air method is the way to go. Now if I could just figure out how to not scratch the shafts when cutting the old grips off. I swear I've tried every angle with the hook blade but keep catching it in certain spots.

I regripped an old Odyssey 330 putter. I used a utility knife to cut the old grip which was slick and falling apart. I left the old tape on the shaft. I then took some IPA and used an old toothbrush to apply it to the old tape and slid the new Golf Pride Tour grip on. It was easy to rotate to align and since it's a putter I wasn't too concerned with the grip slipping out due to swing speed.

The title of your video is, “How to put on a golf club grip.” Obviously I chose this video based on its title. I don’t need you to spend the first 4:53 minutes telling me all the reasons why I may need a new grip. Lol. That’s a waste of time. I already know why I need to put on a new grip. That’s why I picked this video based on its title. I want to know how. 🙂 the rest of the video was really good. Thanks.

If I were to begin to regrip my clubs at home, what all equipment and materials would I need, where would I get it at, and how much would it cost me? I’m all about DIY as Dick’s would charge me $3 per club to regrip. Only thing that scares me is alignment of grip on club. I use the Winn Dri Tac dark gray grips. I have 2 sets of grips I want to test before I decide which grip I want to stick with so I’m going to blow them on(and might end up doing that for the final set) my only concern is are you worried about the grip slipping or twisting when done that way? A buddy of mine uses masking tape as a base and applies hairspray to it before blowing the grip on(it stays wet at first as a lubricant then dries very sticky making it essentially like double sided tape) didn’t know what your thoughts on the slippage was. Thanks!

I've tried every grip in the book. I don't wear a glove either. The best grips I've ever used are the Golf pride Tour wrap 2G These grips don't wear out!!! I should state that I only use them on my Irons. I use Winn grips and another type of Golf Pride grips on my Hybrids, Fairway and Driver. I prefer a different feel on my Woods from using a wrap. I do replace my own grips. But I haven't replaced the grips on my Irons for at least 5 years!!! The 2G grips are Rubber and Tacky as well. My hands don't slip even when it's wet or it's really humid and my hands get sweaty. I clean them with dish washing liquid several times a year. After I clean them they get even more tacky and they feel like New!! Like I said these don't wear out. If you haven't tried them you should. Bring on the 2020 golf season. My grips are ready to roll...

make sure the core of the grip matches the OD of the shaft. I.e. .600 core and .600 butt section. if thats ok then you might have an air bubble. Take a needle or the end of and utility knife poke the grip.

I have re-gripped my clubs a few times but on the most recent session for a new set of irons, I did not cover the butt end well for some and fear the mineral spirits I was using was inside the shaft when I set it down (club head down, grip upright). My concern is whether the mineral spirits could harm the epoxy bond with the club head to the point I should consider getting them reshafted. It’s my paranoia kicking in but was hoping to get some insight from your experience…
@McGolf

the good thing is mineral spirits tend to evaporate quickly. This lends the idea it doesn't get a chance to eat in the epoxy bond. Id say you are good.

Feel and confidence will always outweigh the actual measuring. If they both fit the same Id guess there is a grip pressure thing going on and go with the mids if you like the feel better

I never know whether you need to remove the backing on two sided tape to expose the second side of sticky?! Common sense says of course you do, but I never see anyone do it in any gripping videos.... help.... I can see advantages to not doing it, a thicker build up of tape, perhaps easier to position the grip or remove it before it dries. I don't know what I'm saying.

Pulling and pushing the grip during installation will alter the grips diameter and length. Should the finished grip be the same size as it was (lengthwise) before installation?
@pmccann74
@pmccann74 Год назад
yes it should. i always mark the shaft temporarily with a piece of masking tape about a 1/4 inch from the end of the grip length . know then exactly where the grip should extend too. always good to push uniformly with the butt with one hand as the rest of the grip with the other hand.plenty of solvent helps,work it on smartly.

What would cause a grip to remain loose after install? Are there different diameters? I installed a set one time, if felt firm but if I really tried, it would twist...particularly in warmer weather. I have never had it happen since, but the cause still bothers me years later.

Glenn W, stick a tee in the hole on top of grip. Make sure a small amount of tape wraps over the end of the shaft. This will cause the grip to slide on a layer of air. Don't remove the tee until the grip is on correctly. When tee is removed grip will set firmly (still wait a while). At the bottom (small end) of most grips there will be a small line in the grip or a gap in the paint for alignment to the middle of the leading edge of the club.
