Mine are Athalon Denver. Probably not mountaineering quality but quite serviceable. Ballistic the first 6 inches then heavy nylon. Just an FYI, front lace hook is opposite yours. My snaps and Velcro go up the back of the gator. Otherwise the same. Good video, nice you pointed out where the buckles go. Just like spur straps. Buckles out. 🐎
I'm surprised, Aaron, this is the first video of yours that dealt with old-school, poorly designed & heavy gaiters. There is a newer, cutting edge, state of the art gaiter with no velcro closure & no BUCKLE, which are made by Kahtoola. YES, these are the gaiters I have & wear when conditions merit.
You are hilarious. You are a such an unassuming pleasant guy, but you have seen more hardcore camping action than most people outside of special forces. FYI some military gaiters gaiters have metal wire loops to run under the boot, but the British ones just have what is best described as a "big lace". Is this because a metal wire will wear away at the boot sole, and its the Brits realised its better the loop fail because it can be replaced by paracord? Good luck to you sir.
The paracord is a classic. I really like the Outdoor Research straps - they seem to last "forever". I don't like the metal wire - too easy to snag, plus it's conductive, IMHO.
I just ordered OR gaiters, the sizing is correct according to the chart. However, the buckle on the outside is very close to the ground. Is that going to be an issue? I see yours is close to the bottom of the shoe as well. I’m not sure if I should size down. (I’m side 10 US and got a size L gaiter).
Loosen the strap a bit to see if you can raise up the buckle. I've never had much of an issue. The key is to make sure the buckle is on the outside of your foot to prevent snagging.
