Interesting. You kind of did it backwards where you had a CG shot list and matched the focal lengths/angles in real life. So often VFX is matching CG to real life. Interesting approach and I think it works well for such a small scale production!

Thanks! Yes you're right. It's becoming a bit more popular. Especially with technology like the LED screens that are being used on The Mandalorian etc. The post work has to be done upfront in those cases. For this I just figured it would be easier to make the CG look good then light me as I'm a much smaller part of the shot!

@@AlfieVaughan Also I got a tip for the engine flames. If you want to save time on volume rendering, get stock footage of a gas flame and apply it as an emission texture to a simple cylindrical geo. Stretch it out until it looks like exhaust from the engine and add some expoglow. For most shots it looks as good as the real thing at a fraction of the cost.

Thanks! Not that far. Probably about 1m. Just far enough that I could get the softbox lighting the screen behind me so I wasn't casting shadows from it

You can definitely do pretty much all the same stuff in blender. It has a compositor. Although it's not as advanced as nuke, it can do most of the same tasks. This might be quite a challenging scene without any 3D experience though. Maybe start on something more simple and build up
