New terra cotta pots, in my opinion, look so boring. I love old, vintage things, and my plant pots are no different. Aging them naturally takes a long time... but I AM SO impatient, so I had to find a way to DIY a new terra cotta pot to age it quickly and easily!
There are a few different techniques that I've found on how to age a terracotta flower pot, including soaking the clay pot in water in a bucket in the sun, or filling it with a highly concentrated fertilizer for weeks... but who has the time for that?!
A while ago, I found this recipe online (at This Old House, link: www.thisoldhouse.com/gardenin...) which uses Garden Lime and a sander to DIY a vintage terracotta pot. It is so easy to age a clay pot and I have used it countless times, and I love the vintage look of the terra cotta. It just gives so much character to your plant!
Before you begin, here's what you need:
- Clay Terra Cotta Pot
- Gloves & Face Mask (we didn't use one, but would recommend!)
- Garden Lime
- Clear Spray Sealant (optional)
- Bowl
- Water
- Paintbrush
- Sander
