Of course, when in doubt you can simply break out the naptha and a toothbrush. But if you want to get down and un-dirty in a flash, this method works like a charm.
Keep in mind, finished fretboards are not created equal - some you have to be extraordinarily careful with, others are a little more forgiving. At the end of the day, the factors that matter are: the type of finish (polyester, urethane, lacquer, oil etc), the nature of the finish (is it matte or glossy?) and the overall general condition (worn, cracked, brittle or factory fresh).
They all matter when deciding on the best approach for desired results.

I feel like a rubdown with naphtha, or a mild oil-eating soap that’s safe around the fret wire couldn’t hurt too, there was still a little finger oil clinging to that finish creating some ripple patterns along the frets, super unnecessary, but if your goal is to make it as much like it would have been like from the factory, removing these foreign compounds with some finish-safe solvents would be the icing on the cake! This will also keep the fretboard cleaner for longer too, increasing the time before you need to do this again. Finger oil can catch dirt, there’s nothing about poly-urithane that should inherently be holding on to dirt, so dirt buildup starts with finger oils coating the board, giving dust and grime something to settle on. Removing the oil during cleaning means dust can’t start to re-settle right away. The first few weeks of playing will start to coat the board with finger oil, and that will start to attract dirt, but if you leave the oil on the board when you’re cleaning, dust can start to stick right away, and you’ll feel like it’s in need of cleaning much more often. And fyi, nothing stretches the time between cleanings like wiping down the fretboard between playing sessions. This way, oil can’t build up, and become attractive to dirt in the first place. Wipe your board and stirrings down with a standard microfiber cloth or even T-shirt after each play, and you can probably go years before you even see dirt start to accumulate. That said, who wants to worry about doing that every time you play? Not me-i’d much prefer to have a cleaning routine I trust and to know I can do that every few months. To each their own. This is all more for people reading these comments for advice, rather than a suggestion to the creator of this video, who I’m sure already knows this and made a choice to exclude it from the video so that he can show how solvents are not necessary. They aren’t, but they can add that extra 1%, as long as you know what you’re doing. DO NOT put acetone on poly-urithane. If you didn’t already know that, probly best stick to just the wire brush and fret polishing.

Where does one acquire polishing CLOTH with an actual grit rating?! (It looks like it’s more of a flexible pad than a true cloth, but that’s still great)… I can find lots of plain standard unrated microfiber, and plenty of grit rated sand paper, as well as stiff polish pads and sponges, but I’ve never seen a cloth/pad so flexible with any kind of grit rating before, let alone multiple grits, that must be so convenient! What a dream to not be going through rolls and rolls of paper, and getting dust or shavings all over the shop!!! Any tips where to find it, or who made it? All I know is that the answer ISNT amazon, haha

All the cloth sheets in this video are micromesh products - larger sheets I acquired decades ago which still work great. As they age they get more flexible. If you shop around you'll find them, but most retailers want to cut them up into little bitty sheets and sell them in graduated packs to maximize profits - like on amazon.
