This frightened me to the point I purchased a sound post setter just in case.

Finalmente! Grazie mille!

Thank so much for this Edgar! This was great! Hopefully I'll never find myself in a situation that would require this, but this is so very helpful just in case!!

This is actually very useful video to educate the amateurs about fixing the fallen soundpost. I would suggest that you may use a cheap violin being cut into half and so that people can see what is actually happening inside whilst you are using the tool to position the soundpost.

I think Olaf the violin maker did that, it might be on RU-vid.

Great information! Thank you! We have an old violin that belonged to a family member that has a second, larger sound post. It is more on the bass side, down in the lower belly of the violin. Do you happen to know why it might have two sound posts? My suspicion is that it might have a poorly carved integral bass bar, but I'm not certain without opening it up.

That hammering still damaged the table. Mom would not be happy 😮
@emeritusdavidteo5553
@emeritusdavidteo5553 13 дней назад
@@johnalexander4946 Just put a hand towel or a cut out from a corrugated carton box about 20cm x 20cm under the hammer that is sitting on the table. Alternatively, do the hammering in the porch or concrete pavement outside. Or if you have lots of friends with sound posts falling off regularly, then buy the kit from Edgar and share the costs.

Personally I rather lift the treble side with an L shaped hook through the upper eye of the f hole while binging outwards the post still on the setting point.Rather than trying to tap the post around. I like the inclusive and trusting outlook of this video .I fear though that many people should never be encouraged to try.

I HAVE A GREAT IDEA FOR YOU TO MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT I hope you would share the art of tuning the Violin Bridge while it is still on the Violin. The technique I am talking is filing slightly in the heart and different places on the bridge to instantly change the sound. If by some chance you are unaware of this, you are in for a treat. I have used it for instant and positive effect in my Violins. This example is a fact and instant to be done while the bridge is still on the Violin and tuned up. This gives you instant feed back when you play after each filing. 1. If the power of the "A" string is weak simply with a small round file, file under the "D" string in the heart just a few strokes and the "A" string instantly jumps up in power. 2.If the "D" string is weak then file in the heart under the "A" String and it instantly becomes more powerful. The reason I am asking is I would like to know more about this technique from a master Violin maker such as yourself. I have learned a lot from your Videos,thanks for your efforts.

Thank you! Wow, another reason we have to fight climate change: It moves soundposts! (Any chance Greata plays the violin?)
