one more thing: Update to your video: I purchased this scanner at Office Depot a few months ago. It came with a large sleeve designed to be used for small photos that would normally get jammed in the scanned. It opens like a hinge and you place the tiny photo up against the hinged side. Run the sleeve thru the scanner and the tiny photo scans in undamaged!!

I used one of these to digitize all my parents' photos after their deaths. It's wonderful now to have them in digital albums for all the family to enjoy without having to store large albums. I was impressed with how well it corrected old yellowed photos, also.

Me as well. Not quite sure how 2 organize them 2 make sure I write the correct information on the backs, without having 2 stop 2 turn the pic over 2 look at it. Then turn it over & proceed 2 write the exact message on the back of the new pic & b sure it matches. It just seems like a daunting, intimidating, train wreck, waiting 2 happen. I believe I have 34,657 photos alone. Without even thinking about the videos. So I fully understand. I wonder if a regular, personal use printer is going 2 b able 2 handle that many photos constantly going thru it, so even say 3 hours a day. I need 2 know if this printer will work 4 me? Has anyone used this printer on large amounts of photos?

Great video. Very clear. I've got the FF-680W and all set up and running fine. The problem lies with the Auto upload to Google.. You indicate a seamless routing thru to Google Photos. The clickable icon in the Epson UI is to Google Drive and when I click it, it will initiate the Google Drive account selection, with Permission to Allow FastFoto to the Account followed by "Uploading these images may create duplicates in your Google Drive account. Continue anyway? > Continue at which point it tries to upload, but then prompts an error "Google Drive reports an error. Please try again." Any clues or suggestions? I'm running WiFi to an iMac and stacks of space on GoogleDrive and can't see the way to resolve or auto-direct to GooglePhoto as you seem to have mastered..

THank you, I recently purchased the Epson, however, after scanning a few books, I found more photos from the same year. I am labeling them per year ie; 1996 etc because that's how I had the books labeled. So, my questions is: how do I put the photos I found from 1996 into the 1996 folder?

FYI. 1200dpi uses 4 times the storage space as 600dpi (not 2 times).
@TheOnlyPixelPuncher
@TheOnlyPixelPuncher 5 месяцев назад
only assuming no compression. As it's interpolated (and pixel values are highly correlated spacially) we should expect less than 4 times. 4 times would be the absolute worst case, which is unlikely to be possible due to the interpolation anyways.

Tony!!!!! I want to do this! But first I need to buy the scanner🤔 i have 3 giant boxes of photos that unfortunately through our move got disengaged from their albums or were put in shoeboxes 😩 (those were very very old). This was a useful video. Once the photos are on my computer, what is the best / modern way to catalog them into a digital album/book so there are no more loose pics? Then they can be viewed as a photo book rather than an old fashioned album?
@TonyFlorida
@TonyFlorida 3 года назад
Hey Nadine! Once you have the photos digitized, I would suggest uploading to Google Photos. This will allow you to put your photos into virtual albums and share with family. That's what I did/am doing. Cataloging them takes a really long time as you would imagine with lots of photos.

Same with paper, the first photo has enough friction/static to grab the next photo in the tray when being pulled in for scanning. Simply separate the photos and put it back in the stack.

Lastly, what do you think about the Omni Photo Stick ? Thank you again
@Sean.1972
@Sean.1972 Год назад
Yes, for small wallet photos, you have two options. 1 - Tape them to a piece of paper and scan that paper. The colors might be off, but... 2 - Flatbed scan - These are much higher quality and you can scan multiple photos at once and they're saved as individual photos. The backfire is how long they take.

I bought two from two different suppliers, and countries (Netherland and Italy) both products with the same issue, …am I unlucky ? It is easy to see longitudinal lines on the photo after scanning , if you put them under a light source, especially with glossy photos. The original photo is scratched. @TonyFlorida
@TonyFlorida 3 года назад
Thanks for the feedback! I scanned at 600 dpi because it was an available option and 1200 dpi was too big of file size. I'm sure 300 dpi is just fine. The only reason you really need a higher dpi anyway is if you plan to print and enlarge the pictures.

I purchased the Epson FastFoto FF-680w in 2020 for $425.00, currently it sells for $600. My goal was to digitize every photo and document my wife and I collected in our eighty plus years before we left Utah in October 2021. No more moving stacks of memory boxes. Now, every picture and document has be scanned and saved onto a 5TB Hard drive and then duplicated to four additional 5TB drives and given to our children and adult grand children. I highly recommend the FF-680w. It was the perfect tool to complete my monster project. Even the oldest of my parents pictures were color corrected as they went through the scanner. The additional graphic tools provided with the Epson will do it all. The smallest pictures were placed together in the Clear Sleeve and easily duplicated. With the thousands of pictures I scanned I did need to replace the original clear sleeve. I used it many time for odd sizes of drawings, business cards, drivers licenses, and Polaroid Photos. It is important to keep the scanner clean and you will get reminders to help you. Cleaning is not difficult once you learn what and where. My wife and I are so thankful Epson helped us digitize our lifetime of pictures. Do you want to know the next step in using those pictures in telling your life stories?

@Sean.1972
@Sean.1972 Год назад
I think another backfire to this scanner is the order they're scanner. The photos are fed in from the back, so it scans the last page first and the first page last. If they're in particular order, there is one program that renames files and you can reverse the order of the numbering. It takes learning, but once you understand the program, it take 10 seconds to do. BulkRenameUtility - I use it multiple times a day.
@OreoCookies2076
@OreoCookies2076 Год назад
@@Sean.1972 Thanks Sean...For some odd reason I could't figure it out. I tried many ways to fed them and it always stacked them as it pleased. However, I did notice that the more colours (pixels) the pictures had the longer it took to upload ...hence those pictures were stacked at the end. Maybe if I have 16 hours again ....I will try it again one day haha. Besides that...its a great scanner.

Do you have to set that up or does it automatically attach names based on the names already saved in my GP?
@brandonMTT
@brandonMTT 6 месяцев назад
When you upload all your photos Google will automatically group faces and you will need to name them manually. Every so often Google will then show you two similar faces and ask for your confirmation on whether or not its the same person, its actually a fun little exercise. Regarding cost - You'll need to pay $30-50 a year for a decent chunk of photos and upwards of $100 for an enormous collection. This cost is somewhat negible considering the features you have access to - Auto face grouping, lifetime backup of your photos etc.

Great question, Dominic! Can these 8.5”x11” scans be output as PDF files, or does the scanner only create JPG and TIFF file types?

How would one scan the photos to an external hard drive? I feel certain that I wouldn't have space on my MAC to store the scanned images.
@TonyFlorida

That's very possible. You can specify the hard drive in the Epson software

@Caityjade20
@Caityjade20 Год назад
So like how long do u think it would take for right around 30,000 pictures and about 250 videos? Do you think that the machine would last 4 that many photos? Or should I go ahead & break the bank with a service? I am retired & almost always home, so time isn't an issue. Although, I am sure it would take me a little bit 2 copy that many. One more question, sorry, but I do know I have many duplicate photos. Bc I was saving things such as Time Hop & Google photos, that they send 2 me. Plus those little videos that Google loves 2 put together and send 2U in your notification box, & then I am also guilty of taking 100+ pics of the same object sometimes, just 2 find the exact perfect picture. And then when I am finished with the 1 or 2 pics that I want 2 edit & keep, I tend 2 not go back & delete the other 98 or 99 pics. Since I have 6 grandkids & 2 daughter's that love 2 take pics & send to "MayMay" plus my own so, it's a bit overwhelming just thinking about how 2 get rid of all the duplicates without knowing if I have saved the perfect "right" pic.

A flatbed scanner would be more ideal for this if you have lots, or even taking a picture with your phone if just a few

Read the Amazon comments… doubtless a great way to bulk scan a lot of SNAPS! But If you have quality shots, use a flatbed (or, for really serious work, and IF you have negatives - positives for you serious Photographers - a macro lens and digital camera) This time saver produces JPEGS while - even a low end - flatbed will give you a TIFF! What’s the diff? It’s like 1080P video vs 4K ie only wanna see your pics on a smart phone? KISS! But if you wanna put treasured family keepsakes on a monitor… TIFF/4K!
