How to Quickly Weed Flower Beds and Gardens Without Being on your Hands and Knees

I had a flower bed in need of serious weeding and had seen some folks talking about "action hoes" in a gardening group I'm in.
I decided to go ahead and give it a try, and I ended up super frustrated that I didn't find these earlier. It made quick work of some pretty dense weeds and grass!

This requires a bit of finesse with the tool (can't just cut the tops off) but it is easily doable with a bit of practice. I got some new dandelions that showed up in the area but most of what I took out has not come back.

@@vibonitatropics I’m trying to figure out what to do I’ve been gardening 👩‍🌾 for awhile like several years but I have always just used a shovel and got all of the weeds and grass up and it is absolutely hard thing to do !!! That completely took everything up the grass and roots. It won’t grow back will it ? I decided this year is what I should of been doing the entire time was kill the weeds and the grass completely because why shovel it up every single year ?? Do black bags or cardboard boxes work better ?
@vibonitatropics
@vibonitatropics Год назад
There are quite a few variables to consider, so I don't have a super easy answer for you from what you've described. If you're close to neighbors, what do their yards looks like? If they have tons of weeds, you're likely to get seeds dropped from them regularly so even if you take everything out in your yard, nature will replant them every year. A layer or bark or rock will help reduce weeds but you need a few inches for it to be effective (and you'll still get some weeds, just not nearly so many). Planting stuff you do want can also reduce weeds in an area in various ways. You might go into a local nursery that can give you some more specific recommendations for your area.

Many plants that get called weeds are in fact helpful. Dandelions are an example. Eating dandelions is very beneficial to your health. Google is a good place to start learning. I would also recommend looking for a book on plants local to your area as what grows is different from place to place.
