Nice tip!! I'll start practicing to get confident on quick stop. I've been practicing on grass and it came in handy for me on a busy Ralph's grocery parking lot this past holiday season. A female driver driving a big pickup truck was going to run me over and I suddenly quick stopped.

On my 3rd day with the XR and glad to hear it's not just me struggling with the heel lift. I do wear a size 12 so I think I'm not totally getting my foot off enough. It's caused some very embarrassing splits when I tried to dismount at the store lol

Your channel has been such an awesome find, it's shocking you don't have more subscribers! Your videos are simultaneously calming/uplifting yet also fun and exciting. And very helpful. And aesthetically pleasing, lol.. I'm originally an e-scooter rider and have zero experience with board style riding, but Onewheel has recently caught my interest. Especially since the board style is so much more portable than lugging around a scooter and finding a place to store it. 💀 But yeah. Looking forward to seeing more of your content! 👍

Thanks for this video. I been trying to do a quick stop for the past 6 months but I always held off doing it. I was one of those people who was too scared to take off the front leg thinking something bad would happened if i do it. But thanks to this video breaking down the mechanics very thorough. I was able to master it in 10 minutes. It was like learning a bike for the first time. Once you got it, you pretty much got it. Just go for it, nothing bad will happen.

Hey, 1" wide automotive vinyl trim works very well as a consumable wear material on the leading and trailing edges. It's cheap, easily replaceable. Thanks for the video.
@kalelinslo235
@kalelinslo235 3 года назад
Interesting suggestion. You don't think it will wear through that vinyl super quickly? I was thinking a thin steel skid plate would be ideal. I'll take a look at how thick of a vinyl sheet I can get. Thanks!

@@kalelinslo235 I have just over 600 mi on mine. Chewed up but far from worn out. www.amazon.com/dp/B0725ZRSW9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_jun-FbV612K9J?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I just layed it across the lowest point on the underside of the fwd and aft corners, right behind the LED openings. Mine is for accidental strikes, not sure how long it would last for frequent "On Purpose" strikes.
@MattYamamoto100
@MattYamamoto100 3 года назад
Thanks! I think that would work well for covering the rails, but I think it would get worn through on the first quickstop. If not doing quickstops or any curb tricks...i think this would be a solid option. Thanks for sharing!
@oldretireddude
@oldretireddude 3 года назад
@@MattYamamoto100 I've actually used it on all the high points of my Pint. If it rolls over, on a somewhat flat surface, this trim is the only thing touching the ground. The only exception is if laying upside down the very front and rear footpad edges are vulnerable. Hasn't happened yet. I ride with a fender, it is also protected. I don't do tricks so the I'm not rubbing on the underside of footpads.

I actually like doing quick stops at slow speeds, I just treat it like a indo board and do a quick lil leg pump before the stomp to have enough force then just pull my foot off. I do it at crosswalks all the time after coming to a stop or almost a stop.

Hi Matt, cool video. I’ve actually been doing the quick stop, probably because that’s what my friend’s son taught me. But now I’ve fallen twice because the board slips after stopping. On Sunday I broke my foot, so won’t be riding for awhile. But it’s a good time to figure out how to fix this issue. Ideas are welcome from anyone.
@MattYamamoto100
@MattYamamoto100 2 года назад
Bummer to hear that! If the board is sliding out from under you, maybe you're taking your front foot off too late, which is keeping the sensors engaged. Get well soon!
@BlueForceSabers
@BlueForceSabers Год назад
Yeah man, sounds like you didn't lift your front foot enough to disengage the motor. Move your back foot closer to the rear to put a bit more weight on the backside of the board. When you shift your weight to the rear, your front foot will automatically want to come up and the back of the board will hit the ground. The only thing that might happen is the tire will spin a bit but shouldn't kick out on you at all.

@@BreakinMoon I tried a couple times and the closest attempt was me slamming the tail on the ground and my other foot was off the board but i shot forward, I think I was off center so my body flew off but the last couple days I was just traveling and trail riding, so maybe I’ll try again and update you considering trails made me a LOT more comfortable with my board!!

Great tutorial! This is the only way I get off my board. It's a very consistent way to get off. The heel method is terrible. I've seen so many people fall trying to do it, just for the simple fact that your unstable while still, compared to moving. The quickstop can still be done even without distance or much speed. Ride with your rear foot a bit more back, so you can get more weight to that side. If you don't have much space, a quick push forward than quickly backwards will also get your momentum in the correct direction. Just practice a few times to get the feel. Float On!

Matt, I've noticed when I quick stop my XR and then attempt to move forward, the motor just simply will not turn on and the nose just plants itself on the ground. Sometimes, it might take me six or seven tries to get the motor to engage so I can travel forward. Any ideas why this might be happening? My board is a week old. Thanks, Bob
@MattYamamoto100
@MattYamamoto100 3 года назад
Hey sorry for the late response. If you haven't worked this out yet, then I'd say it's your shoes not engaging the sensors. Try different shoes first...if that doesn't work, some have had success by putting small felt pads on the board to help with sensor engagement. Hope that helps!
@inactive67

Mine XR does this also, I have to toggle power its not consistant but today I got an over amp reading alert on my phone. it was also 42 ish and tire pressure was a bit low and ironically my board i also a week old.
