And the Circles on Quilts Spinning Wheel that came in this Sampler Template Set: www.sewsteady....
The pattern for this quilt is called Jumping Jax by Jackie Kunkel in her book Splash of Color. Read my book review here: www.sewcanshe....

Thanks for actually showing how you quilt with the rulers and talking about your planning/thought process. I just ordered my first set of quilting rulers and I cant wait to try them.

Love this! I’m with you on the hating burying threads. This is so very helpful. Thank you.

Thank you for this video. There are so many designer’s showing complicated patterns with thread breaks for every block. What a pain! You showed a beautiful and “doable” way to get a gorgeous result!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for this I have some rulers but this shows how to use them a lot more. Thank you again and can't wait to see more of what you do.

This video is wonderful! I have been very interested in FMQ with rulers for the past two years and have been watching lots of videos. I'm so glad that you gave us your demonstration of using the rulers. Several quilt teachers suggest using 1-3 FMQ designs per quilt, and your video proved that a minimal number of designs can give a beautiful over-all effect. Thank you again for your videos. Hope you make more on FMQ and rulers.

Thank you for this helpful video. I appreciate that you used an actual quilt for the demonstration. I learned to “pool” my quilt the hard way! 😊

Thanks for sharing this video. I bought the rulers but haven't tried doing this yet. My goal this year is to learn and work toward mastering FMQ. This motivates me to start. Please continue to share your ideas.

Rulers have always frustrated me because they slip around alot even with the grips on them. Watching your video helped me understand that I was trying to move the quilt too much and not just the ruler with my domestic machine. Thanks so much. I will give it a try again.

I too are starting to use rulers for quilting on my home machine. Thanks for your input on how you are using them. I have done 2 quilts with using rulers and get better with each one.

That was perfect for me, I just purchased rulers and am still practicing and not very good at it yet. You gave me a couple of ideas to try on my samples. I was watching how your hands were on the rulers, and will do that as well, I seem to hunch my shoulders and tense up. I always enjoy your videos, thank you for sharing

Great demonstration of how to use quilt rulers. I don't have any. Trying to learn through videos first to see if zillow can do this. Fo uou use a real flat head thumbtack?

Hiya Caroline. Can you let me know if you use a normal, everyday thumb tack , or is it a quilt thing? Thanks. I absolutely love the realness of your tutorials. You make it look like any sewer can achieve the sewing items that you make. Sandra Crosbie 🇮🇪

The thumbtack came with the ruler, but it appears to be an ordinary one. :)

This looks great, like I could really do this... question ? how did you baste this quilt to keep it together while doing the ruler quilting? I'm just thinking about quilting on my machine and have been afraid to start, because I'm not sure about the best method to baste the quilt, to get a smooth looking back.

I think I can do this. You made it look so easy. Thank you for showing us. Is there a good source for rulers like this? Most of mine are creative grid rulers with straight edges. I will be looking forward to your next video‼️❤️
@SewCanShe
@SewCanShe 4 года назад
Hi Debbie - yes you can do this! But do not try with Creative Grids rulers. You could damage your machine (and maybe injure yourself) if the ruler slips under the sewing machine foot. Only use the thick rulers that are specially made for rulerwork on quilts - and a special ruler foot. I put links in the description to the website where I got my rulers. xoxo, Caroline

For this one I think I used pin basting and removed the pins as I went. Here’s how: sewcanshe.com/the-best-way-to-pin-baste-a-quilt-to-get-ready-for-quilting/

Great video. Can't wait to try, but could you explain the thumb tacks. Was it just a common tack? Thanks again.
@SewCanShe
@SewCanShe 4 года назад
The spinning rulers from Westalee use a ‘pin’ (or thumbtack) to hold one end of the ruler in place when you rotate it. The Sew Steady chanel here on RU-vid has lots of videos that demonstrate those rulers. I don’t know if other brands of rulers use a pin or thumbtack as well.

Looks terrific! Did you use a different foot than a regular free motion foot that comes with your machine?
@SewCanShe
@SewCanShe 4 года назад
Yes. They make ruler feet for just about all sewing machines. For the Bernina it is #72.
@Brandi62

So you don’t stick the thumbtack down so you can just move the ruler? Why are you using the curved side of the ruler instead of the straight side?
@Escape10mom
@Escape10mom 4 года назад
This is great. I've been hearing about this for awhile but hadn't really seen it in action. Which rulers to think would be good to start with???
@SewCanShe
@SewCanShe 4 года назад
Keep in mind these are special rulers made for quilting, not cutting. I suggest a straight ruler and a curved ruler for learning - perhaps both in one like the 12” arc I used in the video. Then look at the different shapes available (there are a ton!) and pick your favorite. :)

I'm a beginner as well. I'm having a problem getting the bobbin thread to come up from the sewing machine. I've tried rethreading, changing tension, etc and no luck. Any thoughts? Please help.

Hi. Just finding your site. My question is, what makes it easier to use the thumb take vs turning it yourself? I tried using it but it’s hard for me to find the center from the back. Thanks.

Great help! What is the function of the thumbtack?
@johnnietate2547

I am not sure about the stitch length. Is it set to 0 or does it matter?
@SewCanShe
@SewCanShe 3 года назад
That depends on your sewing machine. If you can drop your feed dogs then it doesn’t matter what the stitch length is. Some sewing machines have you cover the feed dogs for free motion quilting.
