Now that I understand what you're doing, I got to watching Alec and Randy while they rake, and both of them have two fingers hooked and stiff while they rake, which probably helps prevent dragging across the strumbar before it snaps back into place. Probably also not easy on the joints, but it's worth mentioning, I think.
Thanks for this tutorial! I've been wondering what rake strumming is forever. I can somewhat vibrate strum. But only at like 15 or so notes per second. That intro of TDWDTG gets me. Some of the strum parts on Soulless do too. Thanks!
I actually use one finger to rake strum at 20-30 NPS ish, and then two fingers to rake strum at like 35 NPS. I basically just bounce my strum bar, I have an Xplorer, though, and I don't think it works on many guitars.
I've actually been wondering how the hell you do that, finally I learned it, it is actually super easy and lower effort compared to vibrate strumming. I hate resorting to it, it literally hurts my arm lol
Unfortunately i don't have guitar controller, i use keyboard '-') I use scroll lock for down stum, and home for up strum, for stuff that not to fast i just alternate my index and middle finger to press the button, but for the faster stuff that impossible for me to do like that i just put my finger between the button, and just do it like you do a tremolo picking on guitar, it works, not perfect but works
Very nice tutorial, thanks, dude! I always have trouble with those notes, but now, I may be able to conquer them. Also, is there a method to alternate between up and down strumming?
You might think this is weird but I do a thing that's kind of like take strumming but for me I put my palm on the strum bar and I move my hand up and down like normal strumming Idk its kind of weird but its just an easier way for me to strum much faster
I would just like to say that this will probably work the best on a Les Paul or xplorer. I mean you can try on other guitars but be careful that you might break your hand or strumbar haha
JaysonTM I'm really paranoid that I might break my Xplorer. I broke my last guitar by raking, and that was the GH5 one. Are you sure this is safe on an Xplorer?
ToastyMann gh5 one would break a lot easier because 1, the strum bar is taller so the fingers don’t slide passed it as easy as a lp or xplorer and 2 the gh5 had that rubber coating stuff which was grippy and again made it harder for the fingers to slide passed
I've been using an Xplorer for over 2 years and I've been rake strumming quite often, it's still in great shape. This guitar is actually my longest lasting one somehow. Most of them seem to last between 1 year and 2 years but there are exceptions.
Hey, thanks for the answer, but I CAN do vibrating strumming, thing is, I thought everyone could too. Sorry if I wrote something incorrectly, english is not my native language
Everyone can do it, it's not like you need to be double jointed or smth, it just takes a lot of practice to get really good at. It's (in my experience) far more tiring than either standard or rake strumming, but it's particularly useful in the 16-19 NPS range where it's really fast for standard strumming but too slow for raking, so stuff like the Telos (16.8nps) and Ties That Bind (I think 16.6nps) bridges are good practice. And a lot of death metal, actually, though some of it pushes past 20nps, like The Betrayal. It's also useful if the end of a raking section is on an odd numbered note, because if you just keep raking you'll overstrum 100% of the time.
I usually find it very hard to control my strumming speed while doing it, so I usually overstrum, or I simply don't have enough stamina to do it for a long time. That's why i'm trying to learn how to rake
My xplorer double strums on a hard up or downstroke 😂so I just do normal trem picks only harder and it doubles up on notes perfectly, turning 16ths into 32nds haahahaha
I watched this video and withing 30 min of practicing it i was able to beat the really fast part on kights of cydonia %150 (the part with the triplets killed me though lol)
I find vibrate strumming easier as I tried rake strumming on TDWDTG and failed it and did it on Knights of Cydonia both on GH3 but didn’t get a good score so either I am just not good at it or I do it too hard
How do you keep your guitar in working condition my les Paul orange doesn’t work and tried even tried sodering it lol do you just keep it clean or you went through a few?
Ukog i was wondering do you have the gene Simmons guitar for guitar hero/rock band . I like to use it a lot cause you can use it for both RB and GH and it's really fun to play solos at the bottom part of the guitar for guitar hero . Feels way more realistic than to play at the top of the guitar . If you do have it you should start using it . Its fun to play solos like that . Sure it will be harder to FC songs. But it's worth the fun
Thats rock band guitars. The reason why no one uses them is less constant. And also the strumbar is just straight ass. I was a main rock band guitar user. Then switched to a gh5 guitar and the difference is night and day
Basically, everytime you swing rake your hand once, it'll take 2 notes simultaneously, and when you swing it twice (down and up), it'll take 4 notes and so on. Huh..
This is kinda similar to my own strumming technique when using normal keyboards by pressing the strum up and down button simultaneously and will take two notes, similar to the rake strumming
I can't reach the orange button with guitar. So I turn on All Taps and play with Keyboard. I am what you call "A Vibrate Strummer". Althought it's quite hard to alternate between notes while you're tensed up aha.
Hi! i’m looking to get into Clone Hero but don’t have a guitar to use. can anyone link me to the one George has or one similar? (I prefer cheap prices but good quality)
I could very well be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he uses an Xbox 360 Les Paul. I believe streamers and such usually find them for pretty cheap on places like ebay or facebook marketplace or whatever. You can't really get any brand new ones anymore since they don't make them anymore I don't think.
does raking even work properly on a strato? pretty sure it's not supposed to rake, if it is then idk wtf to say. the thing can barely vibrate strum, never mind raking lol
@@necrobonesgaming2424 I couldn't get mine to do it. but then again this thing is so fucking bad that the frets require you to push so hard your fingers begin to hurt only after like 5 seconds.
