3 years as a live tv production assistant, begging and pleading for my team to teach me deeper things than just "push this button to open a mic/animate a graphic" finally I download Davinci Resolve and take matters into my own hands and this has taught me more than my supposed team has ever bothered.

I studied "multiple camera production" as it was called back then, or TV Production, simply put, for one year (specialized school, living on campus one year and only studying that subject). I never went into the field in practice, and this is a good reminder of why I chose not to. About 5 years later, I saw a classmate of mine in the streets running behind some reporter like a packing mule, and again just got confirmed what I thought to begin with: It really is a business where people like to step on each other, rather than lift each other up. Hierarchy is king, and everyone seems to have to slave to the bone until the day they can move up and take out all that resentment on someone below them, because "now it is my time to be king".

lol drop the entitlement, YOURE A PA. I was one for 5 years here in LA. I'm now a union Camera operator. it's a dog-eat-dog world especially in our business, if you don't have a college degree to flaunt, you've got to be an extremely hard worker who doesn't complain and is HUNGRY, this will build you a circle of producer friends. production managers are the number one people you should kiss ass to always check in with them, there's always something to be done, don't be the guy who follows the rest of the lazy PA mentality. don't sit. this PM will remember you and once you work on multiple shows, they will ask you what you want out of this business. that's when you should already have an answer and know the entry level positions. for instance, you want to be an editor, they will hire you as a post PA. you'll spend time in the postproduction office where you can be even closer with the editors.

@@chammyy456 Just wanted to say. I don't work in this area at all, but I have worked in electrical, construction, HVAC, etc. The people who know what they're doing are trying to maximize their work against time, and they generally aren't going to be trying to teach the help the trades outside of what they expect that help to do. And just like you said, being hungry and eager to be HELPFUL to them is what will set you apart from the others. On those job sites if you're there and you don't have a tape-measure stuck to your belt and drawing/writing tools they don't see you as someone who understands what you need to be useful on the jobsite. We have a culture of low expectations that clashes with the high productivity of professional worksites. It's a huge disservice to people when we try to be very accommodating, never critical, and never kurt/short with people. Some of the most difficult people to work with have been some of the best teachers. Watch them work, and do what they ask, and you'll find they're open to sharing more with you as someone they can count on.

One thing I do is screen grab a frame I like from a movie with a look I like for example, bring it into Resolve and see where the scopes are.

thank you sm! it's such a bliss to finally understand what's going on. there are so many RU-vid videos out there trying to tell people how to get this and that without explaining anything just for me to end up frustrated about not understanding what I am doing wrong

Wow, this is great. I kept looking at the vector parade and likening it to a histogram in Photoshop or on the back of the camera. The fact that the parade is literally representing what's across the screen was totally new info for me.

Great video! No stupid humor. Very much to the point. I had to slow down the video a few times to 50% to see just how you did things. I learned a lot in only a few minutes. Well done!

Great brief color scope snack and, from someone who has color corrected and graded with pretty significant color vision deficiency, incredibly important. The graphs don't lie to you. Our eyes do, particularly mine. Now, how about a color scope steak dinner?

I didn't see how it became a floating window. I got the waveform but don't see where brightness is selected and I have an eyedropper and can't get the selection tool you have. Also my 3 colors are always at very different levels and can't be aligned at the bottom.

Dumb question: using one monitor, how do I add a panel to the bottom of the color page? It’s only showing wheels, etc. on the left and scopes on the right. How do I break out the curves, etc. into a middle panel?
