How to Read Decimals | Fractions and Decimals Class 7 Maths | MathOGuide
Reading and understanding decimals is an important skill in math, especially when dealing with fractions and decimals in Class 7.
Here’s a simple guide:
1. Understanding Place Value in Decimals:Decimal Point:
The decimal point separates the whole number part from the fractional part of a decimal number.
2 Place Value:
Each digit in a decimal has a place value depending on its position relative to the decimal point:Whole number part: On the left side of the decimal point (e.g., tens, ones).Decimal part: On the right side of the decimal point (e.g., tenths, hundredths, thousandths).
For example, in the number 45.678:45 is the whole number part.6 is in the tenths place.7 is in the hundredths place.8 is in the thousandths place.
2. Reading Decimal Numbers:
Whole Number Part: Read the whole number part as you would normally (e.g., 45 as "forty-five").
Decimal Point: Say “point” when you reach the decimal point.Decimal Part: Read each digit in the decimal part individually (e.g., 0.678 as "zero point six seven eight").
For example:3.4 is read as "three point four."12.56 is read as "twelve point five six."0.789 is read as "zero point seven eight nine."
