I am an avid Fantasy Reader but I myself read the Shadow and Bone trilogy before Six of Crows. I really think it's very important to know the grisha ranks and the world map to understand everything in Six of Crows.
I watched the show first then read the trilogy. It was tough to figure out why the subplot characters weren't in the books until I finished Rise and Ruin and realized they're from 6 of Crows 😂 but as I read the books I realized I was imagining the actors of the show and felt the show fit the books soooooo well.
hi if ur scrolling through the comments for extra advice: i read them in this order. - six of crows - crooked kingdom - king of scars - shadow and bone - siege and storm - ruin and rising - rule of wolves WOULD NOT recommend. personally i believe that the king of scars duology is not going to make any sense AT ALL if you haven't read the shadow and bone trilogy. (i read king of scars before shadow and bone and uh. i didn't understand anything. i reread it again after and it was much better tho)
Timeline order is so important for these stories. Like yes someone can technically start with Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, but you miss so much context from the S&B mentions that the Crows make. Like Nina her entire backstory and what happened to her is tied to S&B, same with the cameo of 3 of the S&B characters in Crooked Kingdom, you just don't experience the same excitement and nuance if you start with SoC in my opinion.
I feel like this video was made for me bc Shadow and Bone trailer really caught my attention, but I didn't know where to start exploring the universe.I've heard several times people talking abt Six of crows,it was recommended for me on goodreads, amazing and some friends told me to give it a chance but I was still confused and overwhelmed abt where should I begin explore So......thanks,this video is really helpful 👏👌🙃
I came to this video specifically to see if i could read King of Scars first only watching S1 of Shadow and Bone beforehand, and I’m glad i got a definite answer for that. 😅
This is my first video of yours (ive read the first shadow and bone book and started watching the but got confused and was looking to see if i was reading them right lol) and i just wanted to say this was very fun and you seem like the type of person id want to be friends with irl
i started reading six of crows because i loved Kaz, Inej and Jesper in the Shadow and Bone series but disliked the rest characters in Shadow and Bone (idk why). but after watching this vid i’ll give the shadow and bone series an opportunity! thank you!
my first introduction to the verse was the translation of the six of crows dualogy and i love it very much XD, listening to Shadow and Bone with audible while working and never heard about the King of Scar :)))) Thanks for not letting me miss it
I’ve never watched the shows and haven’t read the books. I ordered six of crows and needed to know if I started off right. Also I wanna be Katie’s friend. Lol
you can absolutely start off with six of crows! you might be a little confused at first (especially if you’re not a seasoned fantasy reader) but you’ll be okay!
i like your video very much Thank you for the good information from you for recommending some books that I would like to have. I like and love this movie very much.
I mean. It is not like I have not read these multiple times - except for rule of wolves. Have not finished that one yet. But we are here for this because: one it is Katie, second it is grishaverse
I personally read six of crows first and I was very confused with all the wording 😂 but I managed to grasp it after about 100 pages and enjoyed it very much! Unfortunately I didn’t manage to finish the trilogy because I lost interest
I just finishes the rule of wolves ( it was the last one I read) and it ended with a cliffhanger and I can't find any other grisha books sooooo probably there will be more series😁🥳
I just got six of crows and crooked kingdom and am super nervous to start them cuz im worried I won’t like them. I’m not someone who reads fantasy at all really but you and Kay from paperbackdreams made me really really want to read them
Hey y'all This should be the order - shadow and bone - siege and storm - ruin and rising - king of scars - rule of wolves This was ig the order in which the books were released too.. so i recommend reading it like this too... I actually bought sox of crows duology first... But then i got to know there is a series before that too... So i borrowed the shadow and bone series from mt friend and rn i ak on the third book of shadow and bone ie ruin and rising...
Hi! Thanks for your video, it was very helpful 😄 I just have one question: I'm currently watching the show and I was wondering if it's possible to read Six of Crows after seen the 2 series but without reading the SaB trilogy (at least for now) ? Bc you said it was a better reading experience with some world building knowledge so are the 2 series good enough with that? PS: I love your socks and the Loveless characters in the back :)
I would also recommend to read shadow and bone trilogy before six of crows. I bought six of crows as the first book and I started reading, I was confused in the beginning, did some research, found out about shadow and bone trilogy, read that first, love the trilogy and now the beginning of six of crows makes sense to me.
probably not this first one because i don’t have much to say, but there is a little clip of me talking about them in my next vlog that drops on tuesday
I just finished reading six of crows ( I'm starting Crooked Kingdom ) and I didnt have any problems understanding it . The only problem was that I didnt even know Shadow and Bone existed before i read Six of Crows 😅 So after I finish Crooked Kingdom I'm reading it :)
One thing i'd say is don't read The Lives of Saints before the Shadow and Bone trilogy or the King of Scars duology, because there are some spoilers near the end.
i’m usually team read the book! but the adaptation is so good that if you think your patience level won’t be able to wait then watch the show first!! they’re very different but the essence is the same. so if you don’t want the first book to be spoiled, read first, but if you don’t care then go for it.
Spoiler I read Six of Crows first and then Shadow and Bone and then Crooked Kingdom and then the rest of Shadow and Bone duology. At one point in Crooked Kingdom Nina says that Alina died, I have never ordered books so fast! I was like, um what ? I need to know what happens 😅
Ruin and rising spoiler alert!!: My dumbass read six of crows before reading ruin and rising cuz my library didn’t have it so I got such a spoiler when it said that Alina was martyred before she turned 18. I literally wanted to scream. I still haven’t read ruin and rising😭
can i only read the shadow and bone book only? because its too expensive if i buy all of the books. will i able to still enjoy it if i only read that?/
@@krizzialeighcruz4894 YES BUY THE PAPERBACKS! the paperbacks of the trilogy are so so so pretty. i have them back home and i love them so much. but don't worry about the format of book! as long as there are words on the page, it counts!! it's all a preference! i actually prefer paperbacks and ebooks. so go for the paperbacks, they're much easier to read and MUCH cheaper
hi i just want to ask how do you annotate a fantasy like what is your label(like worldbuilding or characters?) in your tabbing system can u help me with that pls
7:44 I actually disliked Zoya in the original trilogy, but came to love her character in KoS. She feels more fleshed out in the duology and has more range of emotions than just “spiteful bitch” mode
I just finished reading the Shadow and Bone trilogy and if it wouldn't be for the King of Scars duology I would have saved myself the pain of reading them. I started with Six of Crows and sure the first 150 pages were confusing but the Grisha order and the politics between Ravka and Fjerda are really not that complicated (and that's coming from someone who hardly even reads fantasy books). But most importantly, Alina's story is completely irrelevant for Six of Crows so why would you want to torture yourself with a mediocre trilogy? It probably puts a lot of people off the grishaverse because they think they have to start at the beginning (eventho they don't care or like said beginning).
LMAOO totally unrelated but this girl used to be my BestFriend and like we both watched the show first and we loved it sm, she was the first one to get hands on the books and I was super happy for her and then once I texted her that I saw myself a bit like zoya she started to say "is that so?" Bcuz she only wants to be zoya, obviously I didn't read the books yet so I was like it's fine I haven't read the books yet but all ik zoyas a bit like me and then she continued to say that I was "Jesper Fahey" so then I read the books I am nothing like Jesper Fahey LMAOOO i hate how she gatekeeps zoya to herself and gives everyone titles that have nothing to do with them or their personalities
Ive watched the shadow and bone show and read the six of crows duology am going to read the king of scars duology next before season two !!!!!! But I don’t think am going to read the shadow and bone books for now
you actually might WANT to read at least the last two shadow and bone books before you read the king of scars books because the king of scars books will not make sense without the context of the shadow and bone trilogy in my opinion.
So I read Shadow and Bone yearsss ago when it first came out and I never really loved the first book so I didn’t continue. I bought the Six of Crowd duology when they were released but have had them on my shelves ever since. Once I started watching the show I was like I have to read Six of Crows. So I’m nearly done with Six of Crows and now I’m wondering if I should finish the Shadow and Bone trilogy after Crooked Kingdom?
Ive read both books in the six of crows duology but I only read the first book in the shadow and bone triology because i didnt really love Shadow and Bone. Can I start King of Scars now even though i haven't read the last 2 books in the shadow and bone trilogy?
hhhhhh that's so tough because you COULD but you'd be so confused. i recommend plowing through the last two shadow and bone books then reading king of scars.
is six of crows too hard to read to someone that dosent have english as a first language?? I want to buy the english edition bcs I read the shadow and bone series but I dont know if I will get lost
So I planned on reading before watching but shadow and bone was sold out everywhere. So I already know the whole story with Alina, Mal, and Aleksander and what happened. Do the Grishaverse books focus on them 3 and what happened in the series? I’m personally really excited to get to Six of Crows because I want to know why Kaz and Inej are the way they are. Jesper is my favorite from the series. I plan on reading the first one on our road trip
so the shadow and bone trilogy is about alina and her story. (there's a lot more to the story than just in season 1 so i highly recommend) six of crows is about kaz and co and their story!
