You shouldn't be compressing too much of your sound. Leaving things open, and getting them right in the levels or recording process will have a more vibrant and full dynamic than anything. there are so many kinds of compression to apply for so many subtleties in music. compression also applies to an effect or vibe, pumping or clamping down on sound so that's why it can be hard to really hear, and understand it. the name itself implies that something is being squashed even, when in most cases it's usually bringing sounds and elements up in a mix. il demonstrate some examples of using it here in this video. being part 1 of a multiple video series on the different uses, and the different types of compression and compressors for different cases.
