I spent the last year helping out a friend in the home restoration/construction business, he was overwhelmed with work, with very few qualified workers, yet his two daughters (both teenagers), and his wife, were out there, framing walls, hanging/taping drywall, repairing roofs, pulling/installing cables, digging trenches, painting, tiling, the whole nine yards (including laying foundations)...it was a joy to work with them...a great family...

@Terri Fenrich she appears to be doing work to me. Her narration is naturally spoken and does not appear to be from a script. She does seem to be in the sales department so turning wrenches likely isn't her primary job but I have seen nothing to indicate she isn't capable. She is probably a real farm girl who lived on a real farm. You would be surprised to what they can do due to necessity. I know a few women who could do this easily. They aren't as good looking but capable.

Happened on your Videos from "Recommendations" I do have to say I'm Impressed with the knowledge clearly behind the scenes the natural talent and ease Rachel Presents. I do cringe a bit thinking about what my shop teacher would say about the Hair-Especially pushing it back during the vids- the idea of getting caught-It was a relief seeing she does pull it back into a ponytail. Rachel has a talent for communication and could stand there in a full hoody rain slicker and still get her point across Proficiently. You did inspire me to purchase a 1956 ford 601 Series Workmaster/w Loader It's being delivered literally today- I wouldn't have EVER considered one that OLD before. I have torn down and Rebuilt many newer larger machines and I can say it's all in the Detail and from Production to Personality to Knowledge to Product- Your's is an impression of Quality.

Great video! Well done, very informative and professional. I rebuilt the engine in my H about 1989.I did not have a computer and computers did not have you tube at that time IIRC, LOL! Good mechanic friend saved my bacon and helped me git'r done. Had to chuckle about your sleeve puller. We did just about exactly the same way -- Buddy Byron cut the disk out with a torch. Did not have to grind to final fit-it was ready to go. The puller tool is still in the "resource" pile. Found one sleeve that was not a very tight fit upon installation. Talked to an old school mechanic at the IH dealer. Suggested spraying high solid high temp aluminum exhaust spray paint on the liner then stuff it in while still wet. This tractor is still running fine after all these years. Built in june 1943 it is used extensively every winter as my primary snow plow tractor and skidding logs in summer.

Decent starting point for an engine refresh. When honing the bores some kind of lube such as trans fluid or 10 weight motor oil should be used. Also after grinding the valve seats, the new valves need to be lapped in to make sure they seal.
@JW...-oj5iw
@JW...-oj5iw 5 лет назад
Doug Hibbard ... The bores she honed aren't for the pistons to operate inside. They are for the dry sleeves, and as such, lubricants would create extra cleaning necessitated to remove all the oil afterward. She was going for minimum residue in the bores, vs a nice crosshatch to retain oil film.
@doughibbard8462
@doughibbard8462 5 лет назад
@@JW...-oj5iw I understand that however the lube isn't for the cross hatch but it's to help suspend the material being removed to prevent gouging and also increase the life of her stones. I rebuilt my first engine when I was about 10. That was 60 years ago, and I've built plenty since. Lately I am watching these engine rebuild videos. Now many of you may find this impossible to imagine, but back in the day we CLEANED THINGS A LOT. No one would ever put the rocker assy back on anything without taking 20 minutes to at least degrunge it. We cleaned things because all kinds of dirt comes loose when you work in the engine. THe crap in the bottom of the pan will come loose. All kinds of crap embedded in the grunge on those rockers WILL come loose and wash into the new oil leaving you with a ton of crap to filter out. What I have noticed is, like this girlie, most rebuilders today never appear to even think about washing anything. In engine work cleanliness is utterly mandatory. She stresses that the new sleeves wont go into a dirty hole. Yippee. But every part she's taken out is a source of potentially abrasive metal bits, carbon, silicates from air that's not clean...microscopic stuff that you don't want in your engine. CLEAN THINGS A LOT and you will rebuild that thing a lot less often.

George Womack ... She misspoke a couple times. Not the end of the world. The cover atop the head is not a tappet cover. When she spoke about generator removal, she said she would remove the bolts and push the generator forward. I was seriously eyeballing that to see how it worked. When she did it, she didn't push it forward, she pushed it inward. Again, far from the end of the world, but it was a distraction. Overall, an excellent job of demonstrating how to do an in-frame refresh. I wish she had shown an examination of the valve train operation before removing the rocker shaft. Flat cam lobes have created havoc for people in the past and probably will continue to do so until Musk replaces all IC engines.

George Womack ... Well, well, well. You are the wittiest person on the Tube. "get a life". Oooh, burn!!! That brain of yours could power a starship. "get a life". I feel like Bill Murray in Ghostbusters. "Get her!" "That was your plan?" "Get her!"

Your vise needs aluminum or brass covers, when the vise jaws are holding engine rods.

That is not a micrometer. It is a caliper and not as accurate measuring around a thousanth of an inch. A couple of torque specifications in the video were referenced as force in pounds; torque is a length*force or foot*pounds in this case. Great video and if I need to rebuild our Super M I know where to go for parts. Great overview. Thanks! Definitely checking out the rest of your videos.

I was actually looking for a video on restoring my record player, but I stopped by to learn about stripping a tractor engine - I can't resist watching somebody who knows what they're talking about! :-)

I have a 230 that seized in the field while haying about 15 years ago. I'd love to see a video like this on the wet sleeved engines. That might be the motivation I need to finally do the rebuild.

I spun one on a lathe? You can make one if you want? Oh sure let me go to the garage and dust off the old lathe! I don't even have a tractor and I'm watching your videos! And I do want one of those tools you make! You are such an incredible young lady, I pray my son runs into a young lady exactly like you!

My parents still have and use an old Intersmashable...as we call it, 656 with a Duz all loader thats custom attached. Been going since the early 80's when we got it. Rebuilt the inline 6 cylinder twice in its lifetime. Still going strong.
