2004 Yamaha XLT1200 engine rebuild (Part 2)
Engine seardown.
Part 2 of this 3 part series showcasing the start to finish of this engine rebuild.
I purchased this ski as a project to video and document on my channel for others to use as a tool complete their own projects

Good rings should be loose like that. It confirms they will have sufficient tension once they are installed in the barrel. Blow by between the rings is also common on 2 strokes due to the way they oil and burn

I made a press to get the piston pin out. Used a deep socket to pull it into. worked great, no damage to the bearings or crankshaft at all. Great videos! Cheers

Thanks for the comment Chris. I didn’t have access to my press this time around. Although I was thinking about making a “mobile” style press.

Your powervalve hit that piston you need to confirm that your servo motor that operates those powervalves is working. I have a video showing this.

@@christianfrancica4955 I’m getting there, it’s been hard with everything happening. I should have all the parts by this weekend to finish the rebuild. Thanks for the comment!

I had to replace my number 1 cylinder and piston too, and it did the same thing is this common for this year and model of jet-ski?

I’m not sure if it’s a common failure point, but I have read about a few incidents recently. I would suggest checking your oils supply lines before and during each ride, better to be safe than sorry.

Make a presse Thor the piston pins, never hit it like that.
