Hanging the new pistons on the connecting
NPR pistons
NPR's like RS machines and YCP are all 336 cast (AC8A in the japanese grading system) which means they are a higher silicon content aluminum cast piston, not toughened by the forging process. The thing that makes them tougher then regular cast would be the T6 heat treating process they under go, which makes their tensile strength much higher, closer to that of 4032 aluminum alloy, which is what most low expansion forged pistons are made out of.

For all you guys giving these guys crap about pistons being stack and slid across the table that's nothing compared to what those pistons see in the engine. Secondly the factory manual tells you to use the handle of a 🔨 to tap them in with the ring compressor that's more forceful than dragging it across a table! Come on guys grow up. These guys took the time to show other people how to work on their engine's! Keep up the good work and let haters hate!

To be honest alot of backyard builders done it this way without rod heaters on some old technology rods from 70s and 80s newer metal you can get away with it because silicon that's added into the cast makes it cleaner no voids less machining from the factory to save money I wouldn't do it to old cast rods from way back when but harbor freight has a rod heater and not to bad good job guys

Open flame on the rods is a mistake and a sign of poor technical/mechanical technique. Should use an oven on the rods and and freeze the pins. It's a interference fit. The purpose is to gradually increase/ decrease temps without a rapid change... Quantity, not Quality is what we see here..

You don't know what you are talking about. The 125 million small block Chev V8's all used interference fit in the small end, and their rods were induction heated to a dull red to permit installation of the pin. Any good automotive machine shop will have flame or induction heaters for the same purpose. It is not possible to press the pin through the rod when they are the same temperature- and if you did the pin would be scored where it has to run in the piston boss. These guys did a great job hanging the rods on the pistons.

@JM8686
@JM8686 4 года назад
Dont like sounding like an expert and giving detailed description but here we go!! LESS WORDS NPR PISTONS ARE GOOD AND LITTLE BETTER THAN OEM!!! now people will talk smack on the comments but 100% sure they dont have a VIDEO to prove what they saying!!

@JM8686
@JM8686 4 года назад
Let me tell you a little secret aboy hemi engines that no one else will!! On those engines the valve seats "round metal rings" where the valve seats comes loose and the get hit by the piston making it into multiple small pieces, the intake sucks all those pieces incide ,now the trick is , You can remove the heads super easy so they can send over to a machine shop to get the valve job done and replace messed up valves and the seats! Now for the piston that got damaged,you can easily remove the oil pan and remove the messed up piston by removing the connection rod!! Just install a new piston with new piston rings and you good to go!! Remove heads,send it out to get fixed,remove and install new piston and piston rings, LAST THING DO "NOT CLEAN THE INTAKE" buy a new one because only takes a small piece of metal to messeup the engine again!! Do i make sense? This is what car flippers does with auction 300c magnums etc. etc.

Some people are concerned about heating the connecting rods. I'm sure the heat that engine builds, gets them rods a lot hotter that that few seconds the torch does. I'm sure the assembly process Chrysler uses is a lot more harsh, since the majority of factory hemis tick and clank. I own one, so I can judge :p great vid man!

Christopher Williams ....caps and an exclamation...I'm honored....but please shut your piehole....your ram engine thermostat should be about 204 in your ram..my last three were..if you think that flame is less than 204..your nuts...I advise you to put a ray gun to a cigarette lighter let alone a map gas bottle flame and tell me different.he is heating for about 30-40 seconds per rod on that flame...their turning blue..you can't see that?thats pretty goddam hot.I've been building engines for almost 30 years...I know all the tricks of what will work and what won't...his way will work for stock builds....were done here.

That engines fucked from day 1 doing that with a blow torch risks cracking and distorting the end of the rod and softening the metal. I would rather press them in or at the very least heating the rod in a different way so it heated evenly.

+JM8686 I understand the getting things done.. but sometimes heating like that changes the cast iron strength in those rods..and I am certain you know the damages that can be done.. so speed in the long run can be extremely costly. In the end a few dollars compared to a second rebuild. heating cast requires heat to cool down so the strength remains the same. This is just something that I have learned over many years of engine rebuilding. thank you for posting and showing a short cut for marring connecting rods to pistons.

@@ibraHemi The piston heads are aluminum Aluminum has an oxide layer If you scratch the head, you fuck up the oxide layer if you fuck up the oxide layer, you are prone to premature failure due to the vulnerability of the exposed aluminum. Just because there is "explosion" doesn't mean that those "few scratches from the table" can't fuck up the components. Reminder, all the components of an engine are measure and meticulously proportioned to such a point that a couple thousandths off can fuck up an engine. Small things do matter.
