That ball bearing spring thing was gonna be a B with a screwdriver. So i went into the tool box and found one of those long spoon shaped things. Man that made it easy.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I wish you would have covered the cleaning / maintenance part of the pre-load spring for the throttle cable. Meaning on the part where the cables connect. It was on your bench, but never covered that part of the controller. Mine currently moves at all positions creating slop in throttle response.
Thanks for posting .... the wave spring you forgot, did you have to put it in? For next time start at beginning please including disassembly of cables. Nice to know how this works before disassembling and having detent balls shoot accross garage. Usually the cylinder where detent ball spring goes has a cross drilled hole to allow spring and ball assembly, just like brushes in a motor. Surprised you didn't add one of you had over fifty tries to get it assembled. Still this is great for me, ready to do something similar to my 1996 ski boat. I have no manual.
Hi Jeremy, I been looking for some video like this as crazy. My US MARINE shifter box being disassembled by me and the clutch I saw was dispositioned. The center of the clutch wasn't lock on N that's caused I don't have a reverse, eventhough I shift to reverse took like 30lbs of pull back and engine stall. mine is 1992 maxum 2100sr.
I took mine partially apart today but didn't attempt to remove the larger detent ball for the gear shift lever. I have a separate lever for the throttle. The gear shift lever is frozen and won't move at all. I tried pushing the detent ball up to see if the shaft would move at all but it was really hard to do just holding it in my hand. I have had the boat for 12 years and the lever has always moved very easily. I made my way down the Baja coast and observed no difference until I got to La Paz and now it's stuck! I can't imagine it's anything other than that ball holding it or somehow corrosion between the housing and shaft? Any thoughts. By the way, thank you so much for making this video!
I mean, that's one characterization, I suppose - if you didn't actually watch the video and listen to my explanation. However, if you DID, then you would know it wasn't "some" parts - it was a single, non-essential washer that I never did put back in and, three boating seasons later, has caused exactly zero issues.
