Those chairs . . . they haunt me! You manage to impart so much knowledge in 5 minutes, and the way you light the furniture really enables us to see the subtleties of hand crafted pieces, and the logic behind the patina. Thanks so much, and I look forward to those aristocratic spiders lounging about your studio.

A stunning statement of craftsmanship. When I was designing the library in my home, I picked up two reupholstered chairs that looked similar to these and a stunning secretary desk of walnut, all for $200 TOTAL from a older womans son who was selling the furniture from her house after she died because it was not his "style". Her house was filled with classy, french style furniture. I truely could not believe the price and thought it was too good to be true even if they were just replicas. After studying them I began to realize I picked up some very old and special pieces. After searching the desk, I believe it is a 1820s - 1840s German made Biedermeier Secretaire, if I am right it is worth $5k - $10k. And after watching this, I am 99% sure the chairs are 18th century as well. Very occasionally, us few will stumple upon forget treasures like I did. I still occasionally wake in the middle of the night from excitement of the pieces I got for the price.

Yes it’s quite possible you really found something - a lot of wonderful things are overlooked when people want to move on and discard things of excellent taste because they don’t have the experience to understand such items surpass any momentary style preferences.

Interestingly , the cost of upholstering a good period Louis XVI chair in Lyon silk cost more at the time than the chair itself, as purchased directly from a menuisier.
