In this video I try to give a general overview on how I go about recording bass in my home studio. I don't dive into every detail to keep the video short.
Stuff used in the video:
Sire Marcus Miller bass
Presonus Studio Live III 32SX mixer as the interface
Line 6 HX Stomp
Line 6 Relay G10S wireless reciever with built-in DI box
Presonus Studio One Artist DAW

Thank you Johan, for the workflow! It surely helped me understand it better, and I'll try to work on my bass recordings as well!! God bless you!

So I use a Tascam Model 24 as my main DAW no computer at all. I watched Warren Huart’s bass mixing tutorial where he records two tracks one low pass and one high pass to then sum as a bass buss which overall eq is applied to. My approach is using a Ampeg SCR-DI as my amp, the DI out is my low pass and my 1/4” out to a Boss GEB-7 cutting 50 and 120hz going into my UA LA610MKII is my high pass. In front of the SCR-DI I have a Boss EQ-20 which has Warren’s overall Bass Buss EQ settings, the low pass track on the board boosts 80hz and 800hz (for iPhone clarity) cutting 12Khz. The high pass on the board cuts 80hz and boosts 2.5Khz for presence. This setup lets me balance how much top end I can mix in with the fundamental tone getting it all to gel with all of my other instrument tracks. Once I started mixing my bass this way all of my final mixes have been full and well balanced in the low end area.

@@RasCuban33 yes, this method is very good (I have done it but with other specific gear). I usually don’t separate a clean signal in a high and low, but it does provide some benefits as you say. When I use distorsion I usually do this, to keep the low frequencies clean and only distort the highs and upper mids. But I do this separation in the re-amping phase, because then I can redo it if the mix requires something else. The tone that sounds full and balanced by itself might not be the right one to sit well with the guitars, drums etc.
