This is so funny! I typed in a question earlier this morning. Your other video was the first one that opened up. I followed your link and downloaded OBS as you instructed. Here it is, hours later. Had another question, typed it in YT search window, and again, a different video of yours, is the first that opened up. I guess it's a sign. 😂I only liked the first video from this morning. Another great reason to use Zoom...it has a soft focus option which makes you look great! It cuts down the harshness of the HD camera yet it doesn't look cheesy.

With Zoom. You can give the guest the option to “Allow Record” so they won’t need to use another application and they can save to their desktop for the higher quality

Hey, this video (and channel) is really handy 🙌Nice one. I've been trying the Zoom/OBS set up to record the video locally, but on my Windows 10 PC it won't allow the webcam to be used in OBS and Zoom simultaneously. will only allow one app to use the camera at a time. Do you have any recommendations to get around that?

Great tutorial. My option (#5) would be to use Screenflow or Camtasia to record both the screen (with Quicktime) and myself with a webcam, and have all the neat editing features available with screen recording software. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with two cameras..my webcam and my Panasonic G7 to give me two camera angles...cool. I have a friend in China that i’ll be having a Skype call with in a couple of days. It will be fun trying your tips. THANKS!

1. Justin, thank you for all the tips. 2. I am preparing to film interviews and could really use your help. How do you record remote video interviews without any of the speakers needing to wear headphones? I want to be able to record each speaker’s audio as separate recordings so they can be mixed in post, but I want to avoid anyone wearing visible headphones or earbuds. I’ve been told that even if the speakers have lav mics, those will still pick-up the responses coming from the computer speakers, which will clutter the separate audio files.

I tried the last method but if the other person doesn't know how to do it or they have bad audio, don't know how to share it etc can be kinda tricky... will definetely try method 2 and 3 :)

Great video. I have a full Zoom subscription and just used Zoom to do cloud recording for an hour interview. I was shocked that Zoom sent me an error message that my recording was too big for my account capacity, even though I'd bought the full Zoom account and the interview was just an hour -- and I had nothing else stored in the Zoom cloud. Have you run into this limitation yourself? I did have four people in the interview, not just two.

Hey Justin, quick question. Can you get split audio files with Zoom Cloud Record? I can only see the option on the local record. If you are doing a podcast or something like that, not getting split tracks (each participant on their own audio track) really makes Cloud recording not a feasible option. Is the cloud recording perhaps a poly track audio file or can you do cloud and local recording on Zoom simultaneously to get the best of both? I would love the gallery/active speaker video recording of cloud and the split track audio recording of local. Thanks!

I might be looking for a unicorn but I was wondering if you knew of a solution that allows you to use a separate camera that you can use for a Zoom interview while simultaneously recording to a native sd card in the camera. Is that possible? If I'm interviewing people who aren't technically savvy it would be good to have a dummy proof option so I could see and web record what I'm getting during the interview and then get the higher quality footage when I get the camera back. Thanks for your thoughts on this. I appreciate it.

I’ve had a similar issue before on windows, I was able to get around it by switching up which app i set to record first. So instead of setting up OBS first, try getting zoom running, then opening up OBS.. not a great option but that’s how I’ve fixed it previously

Zoom seems to record only at 360p no matter what I do. The videos are very low quality. I’ll try Skype now.

Love the tip around the 6:00 mark, to record locally, but: only one program can use the webcam. So how can i record with OBS, since zoom or skype also needs that webcam?

This works fine on MAC, on PC you might need to open the recording software first.

Great video! Question for you - if I have a external camera, but my guest does not, that would impact the overall look of the video I'm guessing. How do I ensure the video quality is high and balanced as I launch a show recording multiple guests.

Hey! Good question. Sometime you do have to just work with what they got. I guess you could ask them what is the best quality they could provide and I've found that if it's between an internal computer webcam or a smartphone... sometimes the smartphone will provide a better quality! Hope that helps!

Hi there - great video! Is there a way to lock down the participant view so it doesn't pop back and forth between myself and my interviewee? I want a full screen recording of my interviewee only, but I think the only choice is to keep myself muted at all times except when I ask a question. Is that right? Also, if I screen record with Quicktime, I will be seeing the computer controls at the bottom of the screen, yes? I want it as much as possible to look like a camera shot. Don't have a webcam, unfortunately.

Great video Justin ... BUT ... when you say piece of software and reference Pamela ... piece of something else comes to mind. Being a PC user I needed a reliable recording solution for my interviews and they looked promising - unfortunately nothing could be further from the truth. Constant crashing, freeze ups, corrupt files were some of the problems and complete LACK of customer support.

Great Video, I have just subscribed. I'm using Mac Book and there has no E-Cam on Apple store, and as a RU-vidr, which free softwares is good for meeting with people overseas? e.g the screen shows the gust on left and interviewer in right sides (something like this), may I know any suggestion if she doesn't want to use Facetime.

Great tips Justine. I've been looking for an alternative to Zoom, since the recordings are low resolution, unless you jump through hoops (ie - upgrade to a biz account, then submit a request for 1080p, & wait 3 days). Does skype allow you to record in 1080p?

I have a question, If I choose to go with the 3rd option, which both myself and my interviewee are both recording on camera, and the footage is sent over to me, what is the best and most efficient way to send the footage? Also, what software do you recommend to edit the footage on if using a MAC? Is there any way myself and another person can both edit using a shared system where we both upload our footage from our own locations and share editing tasks? Thank you again!

Hey Jessica! We usually use Google Drive for sending footage. As for software for editing on Mac, we have a lot of suggestions on our channel in our best editing software videos but the best option for editing between two people is Premiere Pro because you can easily share projects! Hope that helps!

Question for Justin, if I'm interviewing you, let's say, and we record two separate video outputs, one of you speaking, the other of me speaking, how long can we talk within the (pretty shitty) 1GB limit offered by Zoom's first level up paid service? Also, will it inform you that you're out of cloud space? How long will zoom take to render the file? If I have to take a ten minute break to clear my cloud for the rest of my interview, that's fine, but if I have to wait 24 hours then it becomes impractical. Thanks, really love your videos.

I think i go over my 1gb limit on almost every call... for a short period like a day or so they have never removed my calls. One time i was over by 7gb.. not sure if this will always be the case but so far they're pretty lenient with the quota.

Thanks. Is it possible to use Dropbox for Zoom's storage space? Have you checked out Zoom integration? Also, just got off the phone with a rep from GoToMeeting, seriously, they're probably better than Zoom. Same price, but UNLIMITED storage!

Hi Justin...if you could clarify, please. If I use Zoom (and Zoom alone) to record an interview with one other individual and I record to the cloud, will there be two video files available at the end of the call? I think so, based on what you said. But I'm unsure what those files will be? Is each file only of a single person? And then I need to edit the two files together? Thanks!
