Just wanted to thank you. I'm new to guitar playing. I started in 2019. I learned scales and stuff. And I started jamming with random backing tracks on youtube. I always loved doing it. I didn't know anything about recording guitar , how to use these softwares etc. I've been watching your videos for about 2 months now. I sucked every information like a sponge. My dad brought me an audio interface on my birthday last week. I connected it to my pc, installed that software, I followed your steps. And I finally learned how to record my playing with backing tracks. You're a guardian angel my friend. I have watched many other videos on this , but I understood your videos only. I'm loving this, I'm excited to record more. I never knew how good I am at guitar. People like you are a blessing for the guitar community. Cheers . (Sorry, my English is shit. I'm from India, I speak 3 other languages. )
Dude, it's so awesome to hear that and truly glad my videos have helped you! Your English is great! I have many friends from India and used to work with many from India at my old corporate job. It's awesome that you speak multiple languages. My 2nd language that I'm learning in Thai (my wife is from Thailand). I would like to learn more! Cheers!
Loaded all the backing tracks of Metal Riff Master into Reaper (using Bias FX2/Neural DSP plugins). Great for practicing all these awesome riffs. Thanks @Jason Stallworth for this great course!
Thanks for the simple video. I was trying to do this and the backing tracks kept sounding off. Your tip about adjusting the BPM fixed the issue I was facing when I tried this before. Much appreciated!
@@jasonstallworth Hey man I love your channel ! just question I have single 57 on my combo amp when you record audio do you do video editing on same computer ? I’m fine with recording audio it’s just video side I’m crap with I’m kinda wanting record vid/audio same time but with what gear I have I’m gunna have to get use video editing 😂. I need to really work on my syncing skills 😂😬
Hey man, love this video! So helpful. I just wanna ask if you could do a video on the schecter c 6 pro fr guitar, because I cant find many in depth-reviews and I think you would really make a great video on it
In Reaper if you drag in a track the BPM does not make any difference. It only seems to make a difference to the metronome speed. Basically it plays the same speed no matter what you set the BPM to
In Reaper, you can rightclick on a track, select Item Properties and change the Playback rate. When lowering the value, it will lower the playback rate of the track and it will keep the pitch preserved if you have the "Preserve pitch when changing rate" box ticked.
Hey Jason, thanks for the video - it helped. Can you tell how do you figure out bpm if your backing track is coming from an unplugged live performance? Just by ear?
I’m not sure about that one. I don’t use backing tracks live. For my acoustic live shows, it’s just acoustic and vocals. I do use a looper to loop a rhythm so I can solo over it. That’s one of those things you just have to get good at timing your own playing
Do you have any advice/process for honing your riffs, and injecting some life into them? I think this is an issue especially for people who just work inside their DAW, stuck with the quantized grid and maybe not rehearsing/polishing material as much as they would if they were playing in a garage with a band.
I hear what you're saying but even the earlier bands still recorded to a metronome or click track to keep timing. Most of them, anyway. I do have a guitar course online that can possibly help you, though. But first, I'd want you to get my free Metal Riffs and Licks practice guide (video and tabs): www.jasonstallworth.com/guitarist/
Hey Jason! Great and informative video. How does one go about using a backing track from another band? For example, I want to record myself playing along with some Megadeth tracks. Where would you get these from?
Hi Jason, I record drums and was wondering, when you record on top of a backing track how I do I make sure I can only hear the instrument and not what I recorded on top of, Example, I play drums along with a song but on my drum recording only want to hear my drums not the song as well as my drums Any advice would be massively appreciated thanks
Hey mate, Im not very computer savy Im looking into getting an interface so i can play guitar through my computer. I have done enough research to figure out how to do that. But, i like to play along to youtube music videos. And want to set up to hear it all through headphones. So i dont annoy the neighbourhood. How do i do that?
You don't need an interface for this unless you still want to use plugins on your computer. Assuming you must already have an amp, unless it's a tube amp it probably has an "aux in" (might need called "MP3 in", "audio in"). Just plug the headphone out from your computer into that, plug headphones into your amp and you're good to go.
Hey Jason, thanks for your video! I also love recording with backing track, but I found my guitar sound is later than I thought or when I played. Could you share how you deal with latency issues?
Depends on your setup, but assuming you're using an audio interface on a Windows machine - most will have an ASIO driver or you might be able to use ASIO4ALL. If this is your setup, you need to drop the sample rate. That should decrease latency. There are other ways for direct monitoring, but they only work if you're not using plugins for your guitar sound. Jason is on a Mac and not sure how they work as don't think they have ASIO.
Two places: 1) My Metal Riff Master course includes backing tracks for all lessons: metalmastermind.com/metal-riff-master 2) I also provide backing tracks for 2 RU-vid lessons each month to my Patreon members: patreon.com/jasonstallworth
Yes you’ll need that. I have a small studio setup video with everything you need here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AXgEc2abkl8.htmlsi=dFPVxamvnsGooPj4
