This is BY FAR the best tutorial I've seen for chair recovering. The smiley face/neck tie tip was brilliant. I also really loved the way you took time to explain how to figure out the amount of fabric needed for each chair. I am a complete novice but now I am actually excited! Thank you!
I searched for simple instructions and you did just that. I will be following and filming my project really soon. I am trying to narrow down the fabric choice, the possibilities are endless now.

You are the only tutorial that I have seen that addresses the fact the staples don’t always go in all the way. I recovered some things a few years ago. I have the exact stapler you do. I had a lot of trouble getting the staples all the way in. I had to use a hammer too. Everyone else always makes it seem like all their staples just go in perfect. I realize a pneumatic stapler works better. However I really appreciate your being real. Thank you.

I have been surfing the net for sales on dining room sets. I am so glad I found this DIY project. This will save me at least $500 dollars that I was going to spend on a sale item. I can't wait to try it.
That is my GIRL!!! I love this project, and I love the fabric that you used. I have been contemplating recovering my bar chairs. My infant nephew, pulled up the vinyl off one of the chairs. Every time I look at the chair I cringe. Part of my wanted to recover them, bit then I wanted to purchase new chairs for my bar, because these are 26' and I really need 30', and they are so hard to come by at an affordable price for three. After this party this Saturday, I think that will be one of my projects. Great job lady!!

We just bought used dining room chairs to replace our chairs with caned backs that had dried out over the years and split. I decided to reupholster the new/used chairs. Thanks for this step by step video. I now feel confident in doing it myself.

About to do this project. Have watched a lot of these and you have been the most helpful. One technique you do differently from other skilled upholsters is not tightening fabric with the 4 sided staple method first. You wait for the last side. Your corner technique is the best! Thks so much. I think I will staple all four center sides first and continue your technique. Thks for the care and let vying details we need. :)

Okay, I bought the material yesterday, and I already had the staples, staple gun, scissors, etc., but I'm going to attempt to do the same with my dining room table chairs. Your video makes it look so easy. I'm looking forward to doing this over the next few days. I'll keep you posted. Terrific video! Thanks!
Here's the update. I finished reupholstering my six dining room chairs on Saturday! The cover that was on there was orange and white (kinda flowery), and it wasn't attractive, and it was on there with staples. Underneath that cover was a green burlap material that was on there with nails. Taking out all the nails and staples was very time consuming and tedious. So, we threw away both those old materials and the one inch cushion which looked very old and very worn. A friend of mine helped me with all this stuff over the several days that we worked on this project. Without his help, I couldn't have done it. So, we cleaned the wood seats really well after getting rid of the old material and the old 1 inch cushion. Then, we put the new 2 inch foam cushions on the wood seat so that we could cut the shape of the cushions to fit the seat. If you have an old electric turkey carving knife, that will work well because that's what we used to cut the foam, and the cutting the foam part was not difficult. So, don't go buy a new electric material cutting knife if you have an old electric turkey cutting knife. We were trying to cover the chairs, but it was a slow process because I forgot about cutting out the smiley faces where the neck ties are, and it was slow because I was trying to get any and all wrinkles out of the fabric as we're putting it on the cushion. Then, we went frame by frame with your video to be able to finish the last three chairs or so. The material I used was stripes. It's a navy blue along with a blue that's a little bit lighter than the navy. It's an every other stripe scenario. It's a lot more work than I anticipated, but the chairs look great! I sent pics of the chairs to a friend of mine, and he thought they were professionally done. I think he was being too kind, but the fabric looks really good on the chairs. I want to take a chair to the fabric place to show the nice lady there how they turned out. Southern Girl, your video really helped a lot. Thank you for your informative video. Again, this was a lot more work than I anticipated just because whoever did the chairs originally used a lot of staples and nails, and removing them was very challenging! We used a hammer, pliers, a butter knife and a drill bit to remove the nails and staples. Again, the chairs look great. Thank you again for your video! God Bless!

Heeeey Sasha.....this is a project you can do...once your get through the process on the first one the rest will go faster! I have found that the necktie technique works on all fabrics.....So now you can knock out your project!!!! TFW & Smooches:)

i just got a used dining table set online market place the table is in good shape for the chairs oh my gosh is so dirty, so i thought probably i just wash it and it will be good to go but i though of changing the fabric instead then I stumbled on your video, and it makes a huge sense with what i just learnt from you today thanks so much.

I watched another youtube on covering chairs and it was ok, but my chairs looked bulky and I couldn't get the corners right. Southern Girl does a GREAT job and even shows you how to measure to buy your fabric before you start!

Thanks for your video, simple and easy to follow. I am doing this project with blackout curtains as my fabric. It came in the color I wanted and it was cheaper than upholstery fabric with a vinyl coating underneath.
