When you said ‘I’m feeling better than I’ve ever done in my life. And I’m doing more than I’ve ever done in my life’…: ☺️ that warmed my soul. I felt it, and I look forward to being able to do that soon. ❤

60.00 Unmasking. When on professional or workstation duties, we must MASK. Our workstation forces this onto us. Off screen, or Off Duty, we can unmask. Some people need extra help to unmask. Sensory and environmental changes. Stims and other distractions. Music. Machinery, TV, comfort foods and comfort drinks. Retreat space. Debriefing in any of several ways. Pets. Friends. Routines such as tidying, sleeping, massage, meditating, partying, praying, etc.

Thank you for such generous sharing of information and support. I'm in autistic burnout, and have just received my ASD diagnosis at age 55. My whole life has been a struggle with depression, executive dysfunction, and what I now recognize as the exhaustion of masking and always feeling like a "failure." I've a long way to go, but I'm learning, getting help, and getting better. Thank you again for your kindness.

I wish there was more information about doing all of this when one of the core reasons you're having problems is /because/ of parts of your situation you can't just change. My job is one of the largest contributors. I'm honestly horrified to think about getting to the point where I shut down for months. I don't know how much longer I have before my body too says no.

Same when I have to fit in to society itself. I was raised in a religion that shames everyone outside as ‘the world’ and has many things considered ‘sin’ like music, tv, everything kids did at school essentially. Grew up learning how to act like I understood and fit in without ever truly learning the content. Now im a big sphere with all the structure but nothing filling it. Moved out at 17 to try escape and all I got was 2 years of work to go essentially nowhere and just feeling more crushed and alone. I have 0 friends and moved back in with my religios family and I have so much stress just living knowing our economy and future for humanity itself. Feels hopeless as a young kid, all I can do is create a business with competitors everywhere, go to school which is what im doing now, and or work a 9-5 to try gain enough money to potentially invest in an economy teetering on the brink of collapse. Hard to keep the will to continue for me now

I will probably need to watch this three times to get it, but I appreciated all of these new concepts. All I had previously knows was large chunks of extended rest, and in this season, they are hard to come by. It’s good to know that other smaller tweaks can add up into a larger recovery and that normal energy flow might be possible even though I am entirely spent.

Where to start. Have buzzers, alarms, appointments, in coming visitors or incoming phone calls. Not knowing what happens next? When a good therapy session is ending, we must prepare so our is to debrief, to exit the session, and prepare for the next event. Using agreed timetables, as a solitary person, or as a group, is the best way.

I am at 9th minute of your speech. I've already paused a few times to calm down myself and be able to listen again. I am so deeply moved by your story - I am full of feelings which I image you could've felt on your journey to self discover. This happens because I always (without intention, without thinking) - walking in everyone shoes and two - because I can relate to you in so many aspects. I am going to watch to the end (i know it's ok to watch it "by parts", I have a peace of mind about that) - I am looking for tips to get out of massive burnout (to this moment it's 1,5 months long, but I "work for it" for over a year) . I don't need any reassurance, I know I can feel like I feel, I just want to know how to overcome this (I am sure I will find some direction in your video). Sorry for any language incorrection (it's not my native language, but in the same time I cannot force myself to use simpler words (because they won't express what I want to write down). I don't need any reassurance, I just want you to know why this message is so... "like this" :-) Thank you for this video (and hard work which I image/feel it could've required to make it happened. Amazing, well presented and focused information. Thank you very much for making this, it's helped me to understand, navigate and be a bit more self aware. I do have a question is you have time? You stated that burnout can feel like what your constantly battling against to world or something from it that is really bothering you that you are then ignoring or just shoving it down inside. Could you mitigate or even over come these things by maybe changing your understanding of of our environments and maybe we are placing these thing higher on our level of importance than they truly are. i.e say that someone in my environment had been rubbing me the wrong way for quite some time now but i care for this person quite a bit, so than i keep battling a feeling of Cognitive dissonance which can easily burn me out. Could i change the way i view or how i value what it is they are doing it being that is rubbing me the wrong way to be able to understand better so than get less and less upset or angry with it?
@autismchrysalis
@autismchrysalis Год назад
Yes, absolutely. If you can get to a point where you understand and empathize with what they are doing, it can shift your perspective on it and bother you less. Or, depending on what it is, you can realize it is actually damaging and you need to bring it up in a loving way and see if they are open to shifting to accommodate you. Or maybe you need to get out of the situation. Either way, resolving the cognitive dissonance will have a large impact. Though I don't claim it will be easy. Good luck!

Reexamining what's "non-negotiable" on your list of responsabilities and finding acceptance of your abilities and disabilities helps a lot, but like, it feels like it eventually leads to just accepting homelessness without relationships, unless you're lucky enough to still have just enough ability that capitalism allows you to exist. Which hell, homelessness without relationships might even be fine to me except in this socity it itself has burnout factors to just get calories in you and find a place to have your body occupy. Like, its not exactly a sensory friendly lifestyle. I dont know, i guess this, like most advice around autism, is great if you like already have relationships full of love, trust and acceptence to rely on, and a college degree and enough social skills that even unmasked you'll make a living, but fuck i burnt out of high school, and havent lasted more than a few months on even low hour part time work. What do i do?! I feel very very strong in fighting internalized ablism, knowing myself, and trying new things. Ive had to just to make it this far in life and im freaking proud to have those skills, and that was enough to do a few more months of 10 hour a week jobs. But i dont know, it doesnt feel like enough after my most recent burnout. I think the buildup of autism related traumas are definitely not helping, but im not sure if i ever had the ability/disablity makeup to be employed without working my ass off at what employers and peers would think of as a lazy effort.

45 minutes, discussing Internalized Ableism. You mention that it is the most difficult step of your process. The book on Family Systems therapy. But no such references for Internalized Ableism. Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, TBI, myself, from a car accident 40 years ago, when my career was as a 34 year old senior social worker, Sydney Australia. So now medically autistic, most times. Your advice about one to one therapy or treatment is not my progressively way of working. RU-vid publishing is not one to one treatment either. Your RU-vid uploads seem to be part of a Zoom class session, with your private class of one to one clients. Is that so? We might try that same technique here from Australia. Specialized for our Australian conditions. Coordinating with existing Australian resources and services.

These are recordings of online workshops that I give for free every few months. It can’t get as deep as a one to one format, which is why I recommend therapy for certain things, or also coaching, depending on the person and the need. Working with an autistic provider is a very different experience to working with an NT provider. Still, a lot of learning can be accomplished through videos, which is why I share these publicly. Glad you’re finding some of it helpful.
