I just install Ubuntu 18.04 along side Windows 10. Computer did not boot to Grub. Followed your instructions and it fixed the issue. Grub now loads up on boot. Thanks. Your tutorial is still relevant in 2018.
The people who made the Ubuntu installer need to be SHOT for having that Automatic option, because it doesn't work. Even doing it manually after reading umpteen articles about how to make and label the boot partition may not work. Some how I got 2 other distros to work 6 months ago. Now it is suddenly HELLLLLLLL!!!!! Grub/bootloader is the problem. I have that with 300MiB and labelled fat32/efi now....still won't boot. I have 3 Ubuntus in that blue Boot Manager showing, but they refuse to open Ubuntu. Yes, I deleted/formatted 2 Ubuntu installations. I thought I hated Microsoft, but I am beginning to hate Linux, too
You my friend are a life saver I'd removed ubuntu and reallocate the partition space to windows but forgot to remove grub loader this sorted it all out and I can use my laptop again thanks
Oh and peoples, the code from this video to paste straight into your terminal is: sudo add-apt-repository ppa@yannubuntu/boot-repair && sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && boot-repair These commands took me to a visual program to reinstall grub for on linux mint. Thanks again ITeachGeek
copy and paste the needed lines for terminal into an email. Then, open that email on your phone....if need be. Can't copy and paste into terminal that way, but...emergencies happen. But, I didn't see those lines on your linked website.
lucky for me, I created a "shared" logical partition on the drive that I could access in case I couldn't get back into windows. I put important things like photos and music, etc on it. I then moved those files to my sisters laptop. If I had a windows 7 installation cd, I could do a factory restore or something maybe? And then install Linux alongside windows (which it gives the option to do on the disk I made). Thanks :3
If you don't have any important data on the windows partition I would recommend you erase the entire disk and start over. You dont need Boot-us manager. Install Windows first then the Linux. Linux will install a boot loader(grub) for you to use. There are plenty of ways to get a windows installation cd. Google is your friend :)
I had installed ubuntu 12 then it asked me to upgrade to 14. After having done the upgrade it is stuck at the purple screen, then it shows me a back screen with several lines of dialogs. I like this os and I really need your help! Thank in advance!
Will Boot Repair fix my old kernels on the Grub menu? I accidentally deleted some initrds from the kernels and I get seem to boot on any of the kernels now. I get a kernel panic. :(
SE LA TASTIERA È "IMPAZZITA" è semplicemente perché è in En(USA). Il trattino utilizzatelo dal tastierino numerico, la '&' è al posto della '/'. I due punti shift + ò
So I followed a tutorial (Different channel) to dual boot two OS. The tutorial used Boot-us manager, where I had to make the other OS hidden to go into this one. I can get into Linux, but I'm unable to make the other OS available as Boot-us manager cannot be installed on Linux. Will I be able to us this to fix it? P.S.I don't have a windows 7 installation disc
im having this problem : GNU GRUB Version 2.00-7 Ubuntu 11 Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device or file completions. grub> will your step solve my problem?
Perhaps try it without the spaces? "apt-get" instead of "apt - get". I'm a linux newb, but I just had to learn/use this myself. update err, sorry. perhaps it doesn't matter? I definitely used it without the spaces, though.
Hey, i've installed Ubuntu Server 12.04.2 LTS 32 bit on my Dell 2950. After the installation it doesn't boot, it shows fd0: Read Error and screen goes blank. Any help?
