How To Recycle your old Lures ( without a Microwave )

One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.

Listen to your elders. They have so much knowledge that's being lost to history. What I would give to go back and listen to my great grandpa and my grandpa's wisdom. Both farmers and fishermen.

AWESOME , I've used a microwave for awhile now BUT that's over . The lead trick is what I was missing with a hot plate !! Thanks for the info and the DIY !!!!!!

The open face mold idea was a life saver for me. Except I'm going to ty making the mold with some old floral clay I have sitting around the house. To melt my old soft plastic I was going to go with the hot plate until I keep hearing how easy it was to burn up the plastic. That's also before you showed the lead trick. Instead a couple days ago I hunted a few thrift shops until I found what I was looking for. An coffee pot warmer like my grandparents used to have. It doesn't reach as hot of temperature as a hot plate on it's lowest setting. I put a small pot, old plastics and a glass lid (to see the melting progress & block fumes) on the warmer. Works perfectly! I gave it a little stir about every 10min and left it on the warmer for almost 2 hrs to see if it would burn up. Nope, never did. For 2 hrs that warmer keep the plastic in a liquid state with just a stir once and awhile. I actually ate dinner(30-40min) without messing with it till I finnished. I'm telling you, if you can find an old coffee pot warmer somewhere, grab it! You'll never use that hot plate again.

I grew upon Vy-eeena sausages-especially when fishing with daddy! Yeah, we know it’s Vienna like the city, but...

I use the clay you bake to make the lure blank I want. I bake it till hard. I push that into a block of clay and then bake that. Pour your plastic( I melt old rubber worms) and let cool. If you spray cooking spray in mold it releases easier.

What you could also try is putting a leadhead jig upside down in the mold and burry the eye and the top of the hook into mold and pour your plastic then your jig will be made inside your lure

I made some injection molds with bondo. You can make any bait but can even substitute the wood for just a regular soft plastic bait and can recreate senkos, and craws. And if you get it really good you can then make more expensive baits like Strike King and Googan Baits, but make them your own colors.

I like this need to try to make me a mold but the music I have to turn volume down because of sleeping family the back up when you talk . I all your DIY`s

The real question is, what flavor Vienna sausage can do you use? I think the hot and spicy one would allow you to catch the most fish right?

Have you seen the guy from the Worlds Worst Fishing channel? All he does is make soft plastics and the like. He's done quite a few remelts to, might be worth checking out if you haven't seen his stuff. He's certainly given me some ideas, like buying clear bait making plastic and then go to dipyourcar.com and buy some pearls to mix in with it, they turn out awesome!

If you make saculait jigs use black line in mold first then chartreuse next fill mold. That would look like a catalpa worm

This is cool I remember as a kid they had kits to make your own grubs n worms better yet you can recycle worn out plastics. I wonder if you can do this with like plastic bottles hummmm.

I always put my silicones an resins in a vacume chamber to draw out the bubbles. I got an old HVAC 3 cfm vac pump from a garage sale cheap. Harbor Freight has them too.

If you leave the rubber on the lead then it would not beat up your rods. Save work and delete a DIY...just sayin.

I love watching bait making, cool seeing you do a video on it and the Vienna can and lead is a good alternative for my wife killing me for using the brand new microwave! haha

That dude knows his stuff and the way you built the mold a Heck of a lot better than I made mine. So my stuff will go in the trash can and I'll start over 😆. Thanks for sharing. Welcome to mold/lure making, since you bought a double burner put it to use, melt 2 different colors and pour your first color about half full let it semi set up ( set up time may vary) then pour your second color in the remaining space in the mold for a 2 color lure, practice and you can come up with some life like looking lures, Wow now that was a mouth full, say that 3 times real fast,,, lol You been spying on me again??? LOL

When you finish making your box for the silicon, take some modeling clay and rub it in all the corners and joints on the inside of your box. No more leaking silicon when you pour it.
