Oh that paper simply needs Max in a small corner & it’s a perfect nod to "Where The Wild Things Are"! Such a magical book (even if it isn’t what you were alluding too) & this piece ended up with a magical feeling of its own. Sending the whole family hugs, love & prayers for a wonderful & blessed weekend 🤗💜🙏🏻 ! EDIT: I knew it had to be Sendak & the addition of the light is absolutely perfection! Also, when working with acrylic, ALWAYS drill pilot holes with the protective film still on. It reduces the chance of cracking by a large %.

This is one of the cutest 80's furniture makeovers I've seen. No one in their right mind would put acrylic as the backing on a nightstand and that's exactly why it puts the piece over the top. Love the choice of color, stencil, footies, and backing. The nightlight is just the cherry on top and pulls everything together. Great job Andy. Big thanks to "The Man" for his support on the project.

Another visit from our friend Drea, always so supportive 😆 I'm feeling old (I'm 66). I have that, almost exact, tv stand and I still have my VCR and videos (though I watch everything on my laptop now). I actually like my piece and don't intend to change it right now but I like what you did with your stand, especially adding the feet, and the plexiglass back does give it a lighter feel. Certainly are good ideas if I decide to change it in the future.

I can see the connection between the wallpaper and the book you love. It reminds me very much of "Good Neighbors " by Diane Massie. What a lovely transformation! I thought you were going to take it in a Danish Modern direction, but this was adorable. As for acrylic, I might use small brackets to add extra security. Holes will be a risk for cracks, even if you drill before adding a screw. The saw was fine, as long as the blade doesn't get too hot. If you only need thin acrylic, you can sometimes save money by buying a cheap poster frame and using that sheet of acrylic.

If you do ever attempt working with plexiglass again (acrylic as you called it), I suggest drilling a pilot hole into the spot where you will add the screw (a pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw you will use) this will help ensure you won't crack it. And wow, that static film being added to the back was brilliant - it really turned it into a magical piece for a Childs room. Usually a piece will speak to me with what it wants to become and honestly, with this piece I heard nothing, haha crickets. I really LOVE what you came up with.

That came out really cute! The Acrylic back was a neat idea, too. Just a hint: treat acrylic like thin hardwood. You were right, cut it with a saw. Any saw works, but use a blade for fine cuts not rough cuts. To attach it, just pre-drill. It's best to predrill the acrylic before you glue it (glue isn't needed btw) so you can make the hole the same size as the screw and not make the hole too big in the piece you are attaching it to. But you could use a slightly smaller bit to predrill your piece as it is. Or use a small bit for the predrill and use a larger bit like a countersink in just the acrylic. You, my dear, do great work and have great ideas. I am sure you can make that acrylic work out. XXOO
@ShieTar_
@ShieTar_ Год назад
Fully agreed, but regarding "any saw": Going at it with a power saw has a good chance to melt/burn the acrylic, and burned acrylic is rather unhealthy. So personally I would only say "any manual saw works".

Hi, Andy. Thanks for serving up some deja-vu. I had a 2, or maybe it was a 3-piece credenza like that, for TV and stereo components when I lived in the Bay Area 1980-1983. Oh the memories of life in that room where that credenza sat. Wow. I love how you transposed that piece to a modern day piece. Perfect for a nursery, but that was quit a journey for the back piece, e.g., acrylic back drop. But I admire your drive for giving it a try, been there done that. Hello to Drea! God, I’d love to have a martini with you two, and Biff!Although that will probably never happen.

You did so good, how totally darling. I am so glad to hear the way you did the paint washing. I tried to do my pieces, the desk and small bookcase, the paint can be peeled off, and was just too thick. Now I can try again...............yaaaa. I have the same stand, except in faux wood, made to look the same probably, but have a wall sized, shelves and TV Stand (I guess) It has glass doors, or had them, once? I have a small one, similiar, same builder, lover of oak, and the best is a desk, large, with laminated? top, handles like yours and rattan? insets on the side of the large drawer. That is a heavy, heavy desk.....I love your acrylic on the back. I hate that cheap piece of fake masonite? Note my many question marks....They are from 80's, were super cheap, desk was only $10.00 at a Salvation Army. At the same time I got a large mid century buffet there for $20... Made from Pecan, a bit heavy, 2 full file drawers and large storage underneath. A lawyer donated that piece. I cannot even move it to clean behind it!!!!

The acrylic coupled with the cling film definitely look like they belong on a grown & sexy piece. If you had stuck some animal cutouts (bunnies, or butterflies, or 'wild things', or something) on the acrylic I think it would look more like a kid's piece (just my opinion) and as a whole would've looked more cohesive. And, it could still be used as a nightlight. As it is, this tells two different 'stories'. It's a little confusing but, great work as always; the quality of your workmanship is never in question!
@FurnitureFablesbyAndy

I know there’s probably 1 million of those same TV stands because I think I had one to a long time ago. Only thing I would say about the acrylic is pre-drill the screw holes and I think it might’ve not crack but I like it for a kids room or even if you made it slightly higher it might be a changing table table for a babies bedroom.

I just love how creative you are! Never would've thought to turn a TV stand like this into a nightstand. How did you add the lights? I'm assuming it didn't come with the lights illuminating the shelves

That is so cute! I might have to copy it for a grandbaby someday....if someday ever happens. I think the one change I would make to cut a little cost would be to only use the acrylic behind the top portion since that's where the most impact is in view, but I would have never thought of it had I not seen you do it!

Thanks so much! Yes, I thought of that too - a great way to trim so cost, for sure!

Never know what you will create and again you have winning piece. The window cling was just the right finish too. Oh I hate the important read this first printed in "mouse script" on tubes, bottles, cans of anything and medicine as well. Beautiful little nightstand, with a nightlight too.

I have two of the exact cabinets, but I stained them dark walnut. I may use them to hold up a desk top downstairs. Plexiglass is a pain in the arse. I use blue tape on the plexiglass cutting line. I also pre drill thru blue tape. I think you can repair the crack with clear adhesive, but it may leave a scar. Nice job as usual.

Pretty darn cute with stencil and nightlight. It would have looked really cute with continuing the wallpaper on the back panel too. Does a piece more specific like this take longer to sell? Weeks?

Thanks! Yes, I had the paper on the back before I removed it...and great question! It can vary, but in my market, I find that pieces that are more unique seem to do well and tend to sell more quickly.
