My son started again stimming few days back and i was trying to stop him. However, today when I saw the vedio from you, I learnt not to stop him to do so. Thank you so much for the video. Keep making us to learn more and help our kids. Because I believe every moment is the moment to teach and love them more. Kudos to you!

oh thank you for your warmest feedback lavanya! it feels so good to know that i have impacted a mom's teaching. rightly said lavany abt moments of teaching, that is why i do more of parent training. there is a huge knowledge gap between parents and teaching their child (let alone a spl child). That is what i aim to address through my parent training sessions and my youtube channel. LMK if u want me to address any specific topic. 💕

Thank you for the strategic way of looking at acceptance of the outward behavior often presented in public with autistic children.

Thank you for this video mam🙏.though we understand this and try t inculcate this n our daily lives, the main fear is what will they do wen we r not there t advocate for them!😒 so everytime we try t stop this, it is not for the moment but for our fear and insecurity abt their future. But after this I will make sure I won't stop her because I understood her struggle better today.. Please guide us on how t make them use adjectives and antonyms in everyday usage mam. My daughter knows antonyms as concepts. If given in worksheets or asked in real objects she answers ( but choice should be given)ex: I should ask" is it wet / dry for a newly washed dress- she replies wet, but she doesn't spontanoeusly use it- like, she doesnt say my frock s wet or my hair s wet etc.

Divya Ur daughter is lucky to have a mom who understands and changes her own beliefs for her daughter. I'm proud of u that u can accept this view and allow her stims to be. Yes she seems to know to the meaning of adjectives but is not using it in daily life. Using requires guided practice. Take one adjective a week and try to identify it with her in daily life. Ex. heavy - ur book is heavy, ammas bag is heavy, laptop is heavy, cooker is heavy etc. U have to do a few like this for her to know she can use the word knowledge in these situations and then she ll start doing it for other words too. All the best 😊🤍

Hi ma'am. My son is 5 years old. He is DD due to epilepsy. He is not autistic. But he always wants to have somethig in his hand. It didnt affect the therapy so far. But now for the past 1 week, he is not doing any activity or cooperating the speech therapy without any objects in his hand. Crying all the time. How to stop the habit maam? Kindly reply me. Please.
@PriankaEvangelineSLP
@PriankaEvangelineSLP Год назад
Hi Gayatri. Let him have the object in hand or u can keep it on the table (it has to be near and he should be able to see it close by). If he starts asking for it, show it and say "it's here, it's yours, we ll keep it here and also do the activity" and redirect him to the activity. Children often hold on to objects when they're stressed. Try to eliminate the stressors or high demands on him. Now he can co-operate for activities knowing it's in his person or nearby.

Hi there each year same time past 3 years my child start making a vocal sounds its loud and very few mins last for couple months also stars with tbe head jerks but the vocal sounds last and especially when stress he ddoes have anxiety his 12year old
@PriankaEvangelineSLP
@PriankaEvangelineSLP 6 месяцев назад
Yes u r right, stimming is actually a coping behaviour during high stress. Help him. Teach coping skills. Reduce the demands on him.

other than hand flapping and visual stimming my daughter also does vocal stimming with unusual sounds, i used to say no when she does that, but now when ever she does that i just stare at her then she immediately recognize that and does a silly face like 😐 and she keeps quite for some time and the cycle goes again whenever she is play with clay or folding cloth etc.. Should I allow her to stim or follow my old method. Thanks in advance
@divyarengarajan2447
@divyarengarajan2447 2 года назад
My daughter also makes unusual meaningless words for stimming. Sometimes does this even t show her affection. Wen I say it s wrong, she repeats "it's wrong" and does the same thing again.

questioning ur teaching techniques is a great first place to start delfi! Good job on you. Now for ur question, Allow her to stim. OR teach her how to occupy herself when she's bored. Keep coloring books, clay, puzzles etc available. And when she's bored go to her and say "i am bored. I want to play" and she can pick what she wants and occupy herself for a while. This way she learns to redirect her energy into other things that give her joy. She can stim too if she wants, but show her she has more choices. If she chooses, good. If not too, no problem :)

Like i said in the video, maybe he's bored with the activity or he doesn't understand the activity or its too demanding for his abilities. I have to know more about him to answer this question nitu :);

Madam can a non autistic child having speech delay can do stimming and verbal stimming
@PriankaEvangelineSLP
@PriankaEvangelineSLP Год назад
Yes, but the intensity and regulation is different. Nail biting, leg shaking, lip peeling, tooth picking, etc is also a self stimmulatory (stimming) behaviour. Neurotypicals can manage the behv so much so that others don't see it as different. An autistic child may have more frequent and intense stims that is necessary to stay regulated (because of a sensory processing difference).
