***Please note that refilling your pens with india ink will make them suitable for use under watercolors or waterbased markers. Alcohol based markers and pens may smear india ink though so proceed at your own risk:)
Today I will show you how to refill your Pigma Micron and Pitt artist pens. You will need India ink, a pipette, pliers and the pen you wish to refill.
For micron pens you need to gently pull out the silver nib holder and drop about 5 drops of ink in. Replace the nib holder.
For pitt pens use pliers to pull out the stopper at the end of the pen and add 5 drops of ink to the barrel.

Darn. I just threw out my micron pens a few weeks ago when I did a clean up and anything that didn't work got tossed! The moral of the story is; don't clean up your crafting area, leave as is.

Agreed! 🤣 I tend to not clean up my art supplies anyways because I know exactly where I left everything if no one touches any of it. If I have to put my stuff away, I lose that creative vibe. It is somewhat organized pens with pens, charcoal with drawing stuff, paints with paints, etc but I definitely work better when I have all my stuff out.

THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I hate having to throw out my pens! I will hang on to the old ones long after I get new ones just because I don’t like throwing them out and try to salvage every last bit of ink in them! Now I’m kinda glad I didn’t because I have a whole stash I can refill!!💗

I know this is an old video but man, I have to say you did a GREAT job demonstrating the hack and I was super happy to see that india ink is a suitable refill. I love it's permanence and waterproof qualities so it's awesome that it doesn't clog up the pen. This is basically one of two videos on youtube that do a good job of demonstrating how to do this. I'm super stoked to try with my microns and faber castells. What a great way to extend the life of the pens. Cheers! :-)

I've tried this with Microns and Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens, it worked really well! I recently bought a Faber-Castell Ecco Pigment pen which is my favourite so far - when the ink runs out in that one I'll try refilling it too. The back is removable just like the Pitt pen, so it should work. Thank you for this video!

Thanks. I've been using both my Pitt and Micron pens a lot since Inktober!! I've been doing a thing where I lay down some watercolor then go back with my micron or pitt pens and envision flowers and doodle them in. It's quite cathartic. Thanks again for the tips Lindsay!!

I heard you say you store your pens straight up, well that's why they dry out. Storing them laid down, will not dry them out. Mines are still not dried out, but the tips are finished :-S Great tutorial :-) thanks for sharing!

Excellent! I highly recommend learning to refill ones pens with your favourite ink. Not only is it better for the environment, but you buy 1 bottle of good ink and with a little know-how you can save on tons of pens! Obviously your pen tips will wear out gradually, but I've noticed that most pens will run out of ink before that (just from normal use, or the passage of time). I figured out how to do this for my Kuretake Bimoji Fude Pen (which isn't rechargeable to start), along with re-filling empty Pentel ink cartridges using a pipette similar to the one in the video. Thanks for this! I was going to recycle my Micron pens otherwise (or trash them since they most likely cannot be recycled :( )

Thank you! I purchased black india ink awhile back, so I have plenty on hand for this!!! Wow, this is great, I hate to throw these pens away, and they always go dry at the worst time! This process will save money because I love these pens and use them a lot in sketching.

I made a mess with my droppers, however - and I hope no one has a "EW" moment: I had some leftover insulin syringes from my kitty, who had diabetes. So, I had an AHA moment, and used them to refill the pens and it worked out wonderfully. No mess, easy clean up and the needles are small enough to fit in the top with no spillage. So, if you don't faint at the sight of needles, this works!

Thanks for a great tutorial! I love all your videos. :) I bought a set of Pitt pens with Christmas money a few years ago, and was so sad when I used them up. I hope I saved them somewhere! I thought of another tip that might help for this: we use those printer ink refill kits, and they come with syringes and needles (yeah, they're a little scary looking!) Anyway, I have used them to refill fountain pen cartridges, and it would work great for this, as well. Also, on a different topic, every time you mention Marden's, I get the theme song from their commercials stuck in my head. :)

I was freaking out. I used so many of these in university (art major) and threw so many out. I had so many that lasted me after uni too and I still enjoy using them but i've started a zero waste journey and so I don't want to throw things out and buy more of them and my microns were starting to dry out. So panic ensued and I thought there HAD to be a hack to refill these things. So thank you so much! You saved me! I have pliers from jewerlery making and india ink just from brush painting. I am SO relieved.

I usually try to wear finger kots (when I remember to) when I do something with inks. I reuse them many times too depending on how stained they get. Especially useful when say you need to go to an important appointment and you don't want to walk in looking like you just came out of a preschool art class but you still want to use your inks the day before or something like that. A pack of them was less than 2 bucks at walmart and i want to say without checking i think there's definitely at least 20 in there but i think its more. I usually wear one just on my index finger and thumb. They are tight however. Just know that. I have skinny fingers and i get imprints but i also roll them all the way back to make sure they stay put. They really work though and for refilling with inks definitely a huge help

I've got a set of Faber-Castell Pitt pens (exactly like the ones in the video) that I've had for maybe a year or so. I use them semi-recently and last night I left one uncapped on my desk overnight. I'm fairly sure there's still a fair amount of ink in it but almost no ink will transfer to the paper and the nib seems very dry. If there a way to get the pen to keep working without refilling the ink?
