Just want to say that the video really helped me! Thank you! I tried to regrip my clubs for first time with the traditional method. So many things can go wrong (and did) bad quality tape, messy, not enough solvent, you have to do it quickly otherwise it will get stuck half way,…. I ended up messing up a new grip and having to throw it away. I was convinced there had to be another method. I came across this video and THIS WAS IT! Tried first time and worked like a charm. Got another person to help for another set of hands. Super easy and cheap! Definitely recommend for its constant readjust-ability afterward.

If you have only a cpl of grips to do you can use your full car spare tire as air reservoir. Just connect a hose to the tire valve with a nozzle, air gun or the like. Works fantastic. To refill either use manual pump or take the tire to the gas station.

Had to come back and follow up, AJ. I got my hands on a raft adaptor and set to work on my old Odyssey putter. I've been divided on the original grip and bought an oversize one some time back but didn't want to waste the original either and never swapped them out. However, with a trusty bicycle pump, raft adapter, a little white spirit, and some patience I managed to remove the original grip (which was solvent-taped originally) and preserve it. Gently increasing the pressure I did encounter an unexpected bubble when one part of the original grip released about halfway down - yikes! I stopped and released the pressure. Then I rolled back the end of the grip as far as I could and dropped some white spirit into the gap. I left it rest upside down in a vice for about 10 minutes. Then I pumped in the air again and again, the bubble but this time I used the bubble to help release more tape by squeezing it around. Eventually, with a little persuasion and a tight hand grip on the bubble area combined with gentle pumps on the bicycle bump, the grip started to push backwards and off. I will now apply the new oversize grip with masking tape and test it out. Thanks for this video and for giving me the confidence to try it out. I've now saved a good grip that I'm kinda happy with and also get to try a new one.

AJ...if you aren't activating the glue on the tape with solvent won't the grip shift or move during play or when the grips rub together in the bag? Maybe I am old school but I don't think I would be comfortable hitting a club with blown on grips.
@EFGMC
@EFGMC Год назад
All my grips are installed with air at this point. I have yet to have any slip. Now I max out around 105 speed so maybe if you were super fast. This method has nothing to do with tape stickiness. The tape is really only there to size the grip appropriately to be consistent in feel with the double sided tape and solvent method. There is no glue to activate since we are only using single sided masking tape and the sticky side is facing the shaft. As long as you are using the right kind of grips like I discussed, should not have any issues.

Reading around on various forums the only downside that I've seen is that some people report grip slippage with air installed grips. Some will say they never have seen it others report that they have. With solvent it's basically a non-issue. Another thing is certain grips can blow out when you try and install them with air if you aren't careful. I think Winn Grips are susceptible to this problem.
@EFGMC
@EFGMC Год назад
It's really personal choice. If you think you will be removing and reusing grips, then air is a great option. The deciding factor is again what grip you are using. Hard grips, cords, and interior lined grips are going to cause more issues and are usually better suited for traditional tape and solvent installs.

It's not double sided tape, just masking tape. Simply used to get the grip to the correct diameter.

Will Jumbomax ultralite work?

I have not tried personally but have heard others say it does.

Hey AJ--per your endorsement I switched my set over to Pure grips, specifically the wrap model. I put them on with compressed air, but I also used some blue painters tape to build them up a little bit. After a few rounds they have started to slip--is this because of the blue tape? Would normal masking tape be better?

I am also wondering if it will twist when swing hard.
@EFGMC
@EFGMC Год назад
Hmmm. How many layers did you build them up? What is your swing speed? Where are they slipping, at the butt end? Just trying to make the best educated guess on what's happening.
@urbanosity
@urbanosity Год назад
@@EFGMC I did a full strip and a half strip on the lower half. Swing speed is pretty low to average. Twisting at the fore grip (towards head).
@EFGMC

@@urbanosity Might be the painters tape though I don't know why. Were these grips new or reused?

If I may weigh in. I am an air compressor convert. I do think it might be the painters tape since it is designed to come off easily. The glue is "softer" and does not dry like normal masking tape - if you ever used it to paint, you will know what I mean. The tape is smoother and more pliable overall. I use normal masking tape but the roll I have been using is a very thin variety so I use three wraps - rotating the shaft about 1/4 turn between wraps. So far I have not experienced any twisting. I am a senior golfer, but still have decent swing speed - about 90 or so with the driver and I use Jumbo Max grips. I would recommend trying some regular masking tape with two or three layers and make sure it is not real shinny stuff either. I think the crappy masking tape works best. Another thing you could try, and I have not done this myself yet, is to use regular grip tape but don't use solvent. Since it is sticky on both sides it should help prevent any twisting. I just don't know if it would still come off easily. I might test this one myself.

Where can I get those tip attachments?

Mine came with my tire inflator. You can find them on Amazon but they almost always come as part of a larger set of 8 or so different tips.

Why is the tape different when you use compressed air?
@EFGMC
@EFGMC 6 месяцев назад
Just using masking tape with air (doesn't even require it, just used for sizing). Solvent method uses double sided tape and the solvent to slide the grip on.

CAN THIS METHOD BE USED IN REMOVING OLD GRIPS WITH DOUBLE SIDED TAP ?
@EFGMC
@EFGMC Год назад
Probably not unless the old tape is pretty bad. Usually better off with a metal rod style grip removal tool.

How about using a little more solvent & just push it on, that way you don’t need a bike pump or ladder 🤔
@EFGMC
@EFGMC Год назад
Good luck. That grip will not just slide on by itself. Needs either a layer of air or slippery activated tape to get the grip all the way on.

Yes, but not surprisingly the more layers of tape, the harder it gets to fully install.

If they were installed with air, it does. If they were installed traditional way with tape/solvent then no it doesn't.
