Thank you for sharing your reinvention! Still a Registered Nurse today, I had my “ah ha” epiphany at 4 am on the way in to cover a shift for nursing. It was that I would write my resignation and retire in March. The following school year I did some substitute teaching and loved it! My principal at the High School offered me a full time position. Having obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree at age 55 qualified me to teach Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Medicine and Health Science. At age 63 I started my second career after the loss of my husband. You and I have shared the heartbreak together, grieved and started our jump back into the dating pool! I couldn’t be happier with my next chapter! You’ve helped me so much. I’ve been following you since November 2020
I so appreciate you being here! Life is a bow of cherries according to Forrest Gump. But we both know it's one step forward then another. Thanks for sharing!
Chocolate--Life is like a box of chocolate according to Forest Gump, as he sat on the bench with a box of chocolate. You never know what you’re going to bite into.
I definitely needed to hear this! My husband is in hospice with ALS. I turn 50 this year. I'm scared about tye future but I know I'll have to get back out there. I'm going to go back to school and become a teacher. I've akready started classes. I have 4 teenagers that all encourage me. Thank you for the inspiration Beth! I was supposed to hear your message today. .
I’m a teacher and it isn’t what it used to be. A lot of work is done on the computer and they change programs every year. It gets a bit exhausting going to all the trainings. Many of my friends have retired earlier than they wanted to because they were tired of the trainings.
You are an inspiration! I was blindsided by a divorce in my late thirties and after being home with kids for a few years, I had to figure out how to earn a living. I discovered my dream job in my forties and had not known it existed prior to that time. Fast forward: I'm now age 57 and run my own company doing work that is deeply meaningful to me. I love your upbeat attitude and chic style. Thank you!
What a coincidence! I’m attending a wedding in Albania next year, and then will take a tour of Greece, as I’m so close. I’m starting to learn a bit of conversational Greek as well! And a few phrases in Albanian, too; I’d like to be able to chat with the other guests and not just the people I know. The Albanian families will outnumber us by a wide margin!
I embrace my music and feel that actively working on it, keeps my mind sharp. I have been a church musician for 62 1/2 years now, for 6 local churches, plus just 7 years ago, I started playing the baby grand at a local rustic resort every Saturday night. Finding new music and working on it has been a lifetime passion. Thank God, I have been really healthy all these years and so far, no arthritis in my hands. I have friends my age who were into ballet and tap, and I was so jealous of them. Fast forward to my current age, and my friend's passion for dancing stopped 40 years ago...while mine continues. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning and sometimes keeps me busy late at night. I have no regrets with my life, at this point!
Thanks Beth such an important video when my husband died at 57 I felt that I was just waiting to die and had no enthusiasm for life and no idea who I was without him it has taken my a while but I have my own hobbies and friends now and feel positive about life and try to say yes to any opportunities that come my way
This is the best video from you Beth. You are representing so many of us. I’m 55 years and I feel my teaching career is coming to an end. I teach in a foreign country and I no longer feel motivated and really I’m at a crossroad. I’m praying asking God to show me my ‘next’ . I’m ready for change and it’s awesome to hear you talk about your journey. I think you should do more videos like this. Happy Easter Sunday to everyone!
You are indeed busting the myth that MIL = Monster-in-law! And what an important message you bring to us today. I have to admit that I was well into my adult years before I realized that I had to live my OWN life, not the life that someone else wanted me to live. (That’s tough when it’s a family member who has those opinions.) And never too old? Absolutely! I took early retirement 11 years ago, since when I went back to university (part-time over 8 years or so) and graduated with a degree in archaeology. Completely different from my previous career, and the fulfillment of a life-long dream to engage in something that has fascinated me since childhood.
Thanks for the great video! Due to a family crisis I had a complete career change at age 46! I started back to school while raising three children alone and became a nurse. I have been nurse practitioner for 15 years now and know I was always meant to do this! It was so difficult and very scary but absolutely worth it. Go out find your future everyone! You can do it!
Thank you for this positive video. I’ve played the piano since childhood, now retired after 40+ years in the business world; loving that I now have more time to play and study , learning new pieces for the sheer joy and challenge of it. People tell they wish they had kept playing ; I tell them it’s never too late to start again. I was recently turned down for a part-time accompanist job I was more than qualified for, I suspect because of my age. Their loss, says my healthy, happy 60+ year old self! Something better will come along.
Thank you for sharing your reinvention story! I have recently become a Life insurance Agent with a very reputable company. I didn't think I could do it , but my coaching team really encouraged and supported me. And my Daughter and Siblings were thrilled that I had the gumption to re-enter the job market at 70 years YOUNG! I also follow and appreciate your CLASSIC style recommendations! ( Been following you since 2019) Anyway, all the BEST and keep sharing and inspiring ALL OF US!!🤗💥👌🏾
Thanks! Empty Nester, divorced, had to reinvent myself, but yes, there are hard days. Groups, friends & volunteering help! I am also still working to add purpose to my life.
I so appreciate your videos. I am 86 years old, fornatuned to still have my dark hair (good genes I guess) and often that I don't look my age. I enjoy home and garden decor as well as fashion, still live alone. Your video today has given me inspiration to get a new spring hair style, more exercise by walking while enjoying the new season ahead.
Hi Beth! Thanks for this video share. I am 57 years old and recently started a RU-vid channel. Terrified but doing it scared! I just recently found your channel and enjoy all your content.
OMGosh, thank you so much! I'm retiring in 1 month and I so needed to hear this, today! Turned in papers yesterday & have been nervous today! Thank you for sharing!
@@BethDjalali This also means after 25 years in Alaska, I will be leaving the State. I have a lot happening this summer. There's much to be done in order for me to drive out before the pass freezes in September. If the dominoes don't fall just right, I'll be stuck until next Spring. It's an exciting but scary time for me. I have to live off my savings for 3 months until my benefits are processed, and I have an unexpected surgery at the end of April that may but a damper in every thing. Sorry to write a novel. 😊 Guess I needed to process all that. Again, thank you.
Thank you for sharing, so inspirational! I am 57 and have been working on my next chapter the past couple of years. I appreciate you sharing your story as it gives me the inspiration to keep going.
Beth I'm happy that your path lead you to the RU-vid! I watch and appreciate all of your videos. This was very inspirational. I applaud 👏 your journey to success and happiness 😊
Interesting, thank you for your authenticity and the way you purposely live life-not just let life and time go by. I am not looking to "reinvent" my life, but at 68 I'm busy getting more involved with business than I ever was through managing a commercial building and my rental house, managing my 110 yr old MOm (yes 110!) and employing 5 caretakers 24/7 (now the employing caretakers is a biggest challenge). Being busy and involved is a happy life. And p.s. I just got married 6 yrs ago to a real sweetie.
I’m 69 now. When I was approaching 50, I was terrified. I cried for weeks in the run up to my birthday. I have no idea why it affected me this way. I enjoy being older now (apart from the ageing body part). I dress how I want, sometimes way outside the box. More importantly I have learned the importance of patience and thinking before I open my mouth.
When I turned 50 I did something similar. My poor husband and kids! Hahah! But it took me several years and the ear and advice of a great friend to stop worrying about being 50 and embrace a new chapter. It took me a while but I got there! Now I’m proud of my age 65 and who I am. I still sometimes feel old and get down but I pull myself back up! Thanks to my wonderful family who were always available-husband and two daughters to pump me back up!!
Thank you so much for this great video. I love all of your videos, but this one with the great message is the best one yet. I'm going back to teach French once a week. Maybe now I'll teach more! I take ballroom dance and am starting a new ballet class at age 65! Maybe I'll start learning Italian? Thank you so much again for this wonderful message that inspires us! ❤️
Thank you Beth for this video about how you reinvented this stage of your life. I am right there....I have been married 35 years, raised our six children and have been a stay at home Mom all these years. My dear husband passed two years ago and grieving has been so difficult and I wonder where do I go from here....thanks for encouraging us and sharing your experience!! I have been watching you since 2020, and I really enjoy all your tips and outfits!!
Hi Beth, I enjoyed hearing about your reinvention story. My story is similar to yours, you are a great role model for me and the many women who admire and appreciate you! Thank you for sharing. 🥰
I needed this so much! Have you ever thought about creating an online course to teach women how to do this? I’m 53 and have been a stay at home mom for 19 years. It’s a lot to figure out and overwhelming to get a plan in place! Thank you!
I used to have 4 months off a year in my 20’s 30’s and 40’s. I did a lot with my time off. I lived in Paris and learned French. I took up cycling and did many tours in various cities. I traveled extensively to about 15 different countries. Two years ago I bought a house and am currently remodeling it to what I want it to be. Luckily I can retire in a few years and I don’t think I’ll have a problem wjth trying new things to keep me busy. Great speech! All what you say is true.
At 54 I went back to school to get my degree in Counseling Psychology. I completed the degree at age 57 and began work as a substance abuse therapist. After three years I “retired” because I found counseling work extremely draining. Now I’m 61 and trying to figure out what my next chapter is!
For years. I’ve been thinking i’ve spoken to you before, and that’s it! Bloomingdale’s! We live in Los Gatos and frequently shopped in the city back then and we love the Ralph Lauren aesthetic!
I’m retiring in just over a year when I turn 60. I started learning German 4 years ago. I’m looking forward to volunteering at a local cat shelter (my passion) and having more time for crafts and traveling.
I definitely needed to hear this today. A deep thank you for sharing this video. I would love more of this type of content in future videos. I love how realistic, positive and inspirational your message is. 😊
You're my inspiration since I started to follow your videos of not to fear change. You only encourage from our own way, where we think to manage or change here and there thank you I have seen that my way of getting ready how put things together and it's making things work easier to be on new track looks better than before thank again God bless 🙌 🙏
Hi Beth, ur a fab gal,luv it,yes we all fail but keep going on ur new road who knows who we meet or which side road calls us, life is a journey, thank you
Have tried to start a RU-vid channel, still can’t figure it out. Lol. I’m working at a boutique & a makeup art for Seint. Slow moving, but still a bit intimidating. I’m 71
Keep moving forward and don’t give up on having your RU-vid channel. I too am a makeup artist and just trying all the things I don’t know and that’s difficult but learning something new keep my muscle brain working.
@@lisabeautyinsideout yes I keep trying. Any particular makeup line? I just started last May. I’ve learned alot from watching Nikol Johnson. Thank you for the encouragement!
My dear Beth, I haven't turned 50 yet...but everything you said we should do even before this beautiful age....it's all true, but unfortunately not many womens have this philosophy of life, power, grace, beauty, etc. Thx Beth for this content ❤❤❤
My hope is to continue to encourage all of women to age with grace, strength, and beauty. It's so important to have a positive attitude in order to live a vibrant life.
@@BethDjalali I totally agree with you...I hope this comes true one day. Life is too short, at least let's make it beautiful. I hope that this will come true and that I will always see this around me.💋🌹❤
I'm certain that it was interesting for you to live in far-flung places. How about videos on fashion that's popular with the native populations of the countries in which you lived. I've re-invented myself so many times that I've lost count. My greatest motivation is and always has been BOREDOM. I started as an academic at Princeton (still am the youngest PH.D. in Comparative Literature @ NYU) but after mastering teaching & publishing, I went to work on Wall Street with my portable skills. I hit the ground running, became a marketing/PR executive, & I also taught marketing to investment bankers. Then I got bored, took a pay cut to work in City government. That was an eye opener, and yes I taught there too & wrote reports on audits for public/media consumption. Then my sister asked me to be her theatrical producing partner (she's a playwright). Since I have the clothes (I've always been a fashion plate), I agreed. I was also wooed by a prestigious think tank for whom I consulted. At the end of 2021 -- during the pandemic -- I was stuck indoors without going to the gym, movie tributes at MoMA & other venues, or to museums, operas/theatre/ballet/lectures/galleries -- I decided to subscribe to a streaming service with only foreign programs (I'm fluent in 7 languages). My posts have not only brought me recognition from major media outlets but enormous popularity with the subscribers & a contract as a blogger & cultural historian. At 72, I'm not ready to retire; those who meet me can't believe my age. I lost my dear husband when he was 42 & I was almost 52 after 5 yrs. of marriage. I think about him daily -- we were soulmates. I socialize constantly but haven't found someone I want to date yet. Who knows what tomorrow will bring!!
The first book didn't get picked up which is why I didn't have to think about my social media presence. The second book is yet to be finished as the blog, and social media channels tool presedence.
Hi! The first book didn’t get picked up by a publisher. The second book still isn’t finished after nine years. I switched gears and became a full time blogger. Fingers crossed I will finally finish the book!
