Godot can export to consoles, but not with only Godot. You have to use third-party services, as it's explained in Godot documentation. It's the same with Unity, but Unity itself is who provides the export but Godot as open-source it can't.

About the Unity Pro - you’ll actually get the license for Pro - valid for Switch exports only - when you register as a Nintendo developer.

So you only need the switch sdk to put in on there? You don’t necessarily need Unity pro?

@@musicrocks0138When you get approved to work on Switch you will get access to a Unity license valid for Switch, along with the rest of needed software and materials.

You have to go through 3rd parties and pay for their ported libs for the engine.

It will get easier. They couldn’t do it for most of the time due to their pure open source nature and not being an actual corporation. They weren’t able to sign NDA’s witch console manufacturers. They have now incorporated for this exact purpose so it should be possible for them to create those tools needed to build executables for consoles. Of course it still be possible only for those devs that have signed NDA’s as well.

Yes, as far as I know you can port your game to Switch using Godot, but you will have to rely on 3 Party Publishers that will ask you for a fee % of your total sales and share the codebase of the project, also Nintendo and a publisher would just accept games that are already Succesful on other platforms, or if dev has previous experience of succesful games or is a well known person in the community We will have to wait for W4Games to release a guide to port games using Godot4, but it will take some time, V4.2 is just starting to support C# games on Web browser and Android

Big congrats again that you made it to switch! I applied once for switch and I actually got a reply but they denied me lol I don't have a publisher and I think that's a big selling point for them? Anyways thanks for the video!

It's a selling point in the sense that it makes them much more likely to accept your game, but at the end of the day the biggest thing is just A: does it meet some standard of quality (the bar is lower than you think), B: does it meet some standard of family friendliness (this one is pretty flexible), and C: how experienced is the team porting. They want a very easy and seamless 1:1 copy of your game that works and runs well - and the best way to guarantee that is by working with someone they've worked with before.

Hi Pete, be careful, i'm pretty sure you broke the NDA by saying the price of the dev kit and showing the middleware page. Nintendo are very strict about that stuff, hence why you wont find answers to any technical questions about thir devices or API when you google for them. You might want to re edit the video.

So I wanted to ask something about the Nintendo Switch DevKit: is the DevKit a console with the DevKit module integrated or is the DevKit just a module that you attach to a standard Nintendo Switch console? Is the DevKit necessary?

The Switch has an incredibly saturated market along with poor discoverability so it is likely a bad move for almost all budding developers to waste their time and money investing initially onto the platform. Peter at least has a following which can help advertise the release to switch.
