This is really well done, I know it’s been 4 years but had to say, out of all the interior civic vids I’ve seen this was the most to the point, also was damn clear on where each connection was and everything. Great job!
Hey there! Just wondering where you ordered your replacement screen? I just cracked mine and need help on where to find. Let me know if possible thanks for your time !!
Excellent tutorial! I was confident when I popped out each piece that I was'nt irreparably damaging anything. The uncoupling in the back was tricky on a few connectors and had to use the screw driver to press down on the tabs, but I got it done. Thank you!
You're a lifesaver! Used this to replace a the cracked touch screen in my 2016 Civic. For those with a similar problem, I was able to buy a replacement OEM screen on ebay for around $250. They seem to be pretty plentiful on there.
I’m looking into buying one on eBay as well to replace my cracked screen in my 2016 civic. The one you got on eBay is it just easy plug and play once you switch it out? No reprogramming needed etc?
@@dollfacekatie i ended up switching just the screen its just plug and play so easy to switch i got lucky some random guy was selling a brand new 2019 stereo for $150 and i bought it off him asap
How did you route the wire behind the touchscreen head unit? I am doing the same to run from the USB port up to the hazard button where my celllhone mount is. But the cord pinches when I put the head unit back together. Thoughts?
Hey ft86boost I’m considering installing an aftermarket Head unit in my 2017 civic Ex . It has the touchscreen like yours and wondering is there other ways to reset TPMS and manage door locks etc without the factory deck?
At 1:50 the funky plastic mounting below the bolt ( left side ) that holds the stereo, is the mount for a LED light that lights the compartment below the heater/AC controls.
This is a great video. Super straightforward and incredibly concise. Thank you for posting this. My question: Is there a good sized void behind the OEM double din stereo after you remove it? A few of the replacement stereo/monitor combos I've been looking at are pretty large, and the wiring harness connections I need for those look like they'd take up a good amount of room in that dead space. Would you say it's spacious behind the OEM stereo? Or is it pretty tight, and already full of connections from the factory install? Thanks in advance!!
How easy is it to access to power cable that lights the ring around the ignition switch of the car? Would be good to run some LEDs of that same circuit for sone feet mood lighting... Is it possible?
With the 2019 having a volume knob and physical buttons, this video was key to me. I definitely gotta see if I can buy the 2019 headunit and install it into my car. That or I'll have to wait for some 2019 models to appear in the scrap.
Hi there! I broke the inside of my center a/c vents on my 2018 civic trying clean them. Is there anyway to get the center ac vents out with taking apart the whole dash and radio?
Under the rails you pulled, they connect to some supports that create the cubby space under the stereo. I am having Sweidit wrap all these pieces but I have to pull those pieces. So, do I have to pull the entire center between the seats to get those 2 pieces out or do they disconnect easily as well?Great video again.
I've got a ,17 EX Sedan. Is it possible to replace the factory radio with aftermarket? Unless I am mistaken, the only way to control the climate is through the touchscreen/software system thats on the factory radio.
I have a touring 2016 with the touch screen and it cracked i wanted to swap the screen with the newer model with the volume knob is that possible or do i have to get the same screen?
I have a 2019 Honda Civc Hatchback with a touch screen head unit. My car is a basic car and did not come with rear camera. Is it possible to fit an OEM Rear Camera or will I have to change the head unit as well as buy some kind of extra wiring harness for the rear Camera. I am investigating the enitre DIY fit.
My display screen is cracked and isn’t registering when I touch it. and I get the message that the system has lost power so I can’t use it at all. I see some on eBay for $300. Those will work to replace?
So I just replaced the touch screen on my moms head unit and when I popped it back in the system says it needs to sync gps and could take ten minutes but it just times out. Also the lane assist camera doesn’t work. Somehow I figured out how to get into the diagnostics and it says gps and lane assist have “NG” which I’m assuming is no ground. Do you know how I could possibly resolve this myself or is it possible I missed a plug in the back of the unit reinstalling? Thanks
I am trying to replace the screen and radio receiver in my 2018 accord lx with the radio and screen from the Ex model so I can have Apple car play. I would really appreciate if you can make video on how to remove the receiver from the car. I can remove the screen but don’t know how to get to the receiver.
I put a air dispenser for my tire in my car charging port, it started working for a while then stopped. Ever since that I get display and touch, but absolutely no sound. Any tips?
So i recently had a soda explode in my car, 2018 honda civic, and my buttons are sticky all over the climate control unit. I have the very base model. Could you possibly explain to me how you can go about popping the buttons out to clean them if thats possible.
Hey brother. its called an inline adapter. you just buy a t connector essentially thats made for the honda that plugs in and has the outputs for the RCA
How would I run my cellphone cable behind the touchscreen radio once taken apart to attack to my cellphone that is mounted above the radio so that the cellphone cable doesn't get pinched when the head unit(radio) is reattached?
Took my car to Honda for the condenser recall the return back my car with all the trip codes seems like they pulled the heater controls plugs out how do I reset the trip codes?
Great video ! Very clean and quick. I would like to ask, I’m going to replace my pillar garnishes in my Hatchback. How do you pop those suckers out? Cool video idea! Lol. Been searching for carbon fiber, but settled for stock gloss black. The dealer had originally scratched mine and I’m replacing them. Thanx!
jerry pacheco thank you! So take a small flat head pop the little cap open & there should be a 8mm Phillips bolt in there remove it, then grab at the top pry back and slide up! Hope that helps
Im about to install one too and im removing this so i have access to the front speaker wires so i can run some 16g wire from the unit to my trunk where the loc will be with the amp.
Nice video man thank you. Cracked my screen and it spidered so read through all the comments. I’d like to just swap out the cracked screen but the head unit itself was possessed and doing what it wanted flipping through menus and going blank and the volume would increase waking up my son. Just a bunch of random problems with it and it was just replaced by Honda dealer and this one I must say is worse and they won’t replace this one because it’s cracked. I guess I have 2 questions for my 2016 civic ex-l.. 1) is it worth me just swapping out the cracked glass/ screen, if so do u have a model # for correct one? 2) should I swap out entire radio unit and if I do that is there any codes or programming that needs to be done? It’s a lease and time to return and not trying to pay $1200 for something I could easily do myself. What do you think my best route is? Thanks in advance for any help
Thanks! No problem, that's really odd with the units bad luck I suppose either way they should replace it, when replacing the screen you dont need any programming, just plug and play. Being I work at the factory I'm not sure what a dealer part number would be sorry I cant help ya on that one!
Awesome video, very clearly explained!! Thank you for making it step by step for people like me, who know nothing about removing all that stuff! However, with that said, I’m stuck on the right garnish, at the very top, by the radio. It won’t come off and I’m afraid I’m going to break it. So how do I get it to pop out??
Thank you very much! I'll try and help you out, do you have Insta? Maybe you could send me a picture so I can understand better and send you in the right direction!
@@ft86boost76 Naturally, a few mins after posting, I finally got it off & thankfully without breaking it! However, now I’m having a hard time getting the top part of the radio/screen to pop out. The bottom snaps popped out but not the top. I’m so afraid to pull very hard, I don’t want to break any snaps or break the screen!
@@ft86boost76 Again, right after posting! 😆 I had messed with this thing for a while before it finally came out, and the top of that right garnish - I had to walk away for a bit and try again after a good long break! LOL Thank you for replying so quickly though!! I may be posting more as I go..
@@SPiRAh once the radio bolts are removed the clips on the back of the radio are very tough, you have to pull towards yourself very hard! And anytime glad I can help
I second this. Cannot find any videos anywhere. Not only do I need to remove just the screen, it’s the digitizer that’s the problem. My screen is completely fine. So if I can just find how to remove just the screen and then the digitizer underneath, I’m in business
Hi @ft86boost I have a Honda Civic 2016 Lx with Honda sensing and i want to buy an oem honda radio to replace? Is it possible? Can you help me install it? Im from Los Angeles California Please reply thanks and God Blesss
The sub cord that go's from the screen to the back of the radio on the radio end its a grey coupler and on the screen end its a blue coupler. Disconnect each end and reset them. Usually that means the cord is no good or just a bad connection and reseting them could resolve that issue! I hope that helps somewhat
I know this was posted 4 years ago, but do you know if you can actually take the touch screen off of the head unit? My screen is cracked but really don’t want to have to buy a whole new head unit for my 10th gen
Hey! Yes you can remover the radio as one unit, then there is 4 8mm or Phillips screws and the one coupler. Then the screen pulls away from the radio, it will be tough because it's held together by 4 clips! Hope that helps
At 2:37 in the video, there’s a black clip. How do i detach this lol. I’m struggling hard with it. Also is it fine if my car is just off? Don’t need to do anything to the battery?
I have rattle behind or below that screen. I know cause it disappears everytime I push up from below or if i gently pull on the screen. Seeing how easy it is to do, Im confident in not gonna break anything. Thanks
was wondering if i buy this will it work on my honda civic 2018 lx, and also do you recommend if i get the phenoix navigation radio or just the normal oem that comes with the ex model
Cloud Seven honestly I can’t answer that question because I don’t know about the aftermarket for the Civics, I just know about the OEM headunits. I’m sure it would be fine though
Ft86 Boost any chance you could post a video on removing the ceiling fabric? I want to sound deaden as much of the interior as possible for an audio upgrade and your videos are a huge help! Thank you Sir!!
M1KL 83 removing the roofliner is a big job, a pillars b pillars and c pillars have to be removed along with some dome lights, grab rails, stay clips & visor clips and once there removed there garbage, very cheap fabric
Ft86 Boost thank you for letting me know! That is very valuable information. Are the stay clips and visor clips available for purchase on Amazon/Ebay or are they specific to dealer purchase? I was able to get the step by step headliner removal/install process thru the HondaTechnician website for $10 per day but of course I didn't see any mention that once you remove them the clips are more or less garbage. Are these clips the same or similar to most of the clips thruout the vehicle trim? Thanks again for all your help and hard work. Cheers
@@ft86boost76 are the clips you're referencing any of these - 75491-SWA-003 , 91560-SZW-003 , 90666-SDA-A01 , 90669-SHJ-A01 , 90667-SWZ-003ZV , 91560-S0X-A01 ? I've looked through several diagrams at Honda am the listed clips above are my best guesses to the ones you mention that like to break upon disassembly. Thanks for your time, I do hope to hear back whenever you can find the time. Cheers!
Yes, under almost any circumstance (save testing components using safe methods) disconnect the battery to prevent accidental and potentially damaging/dangerous shorts.
great video! I just changed my car radio but now am getting a " sound off" message.. the rear camera is working, but radio stays on this same screen. Anyone knows what to do? thank you
The touch screen display is scratched on my 2016 Honda Civic and I want to replace it. Would it be possible to remove only the touch screen to replace it with another?
Yes you can replace the screen, theres 4 small screws on each size of the unit then the blue cord that's attached to the screen disconnect that, the screen is just clipped in so just pull and separate it from the unit
@@ft86boost76 0 videos on this on the entire internet. None. Zippo. Thank you for this simple explanation. Saves me $1000+ for a new screen as I just need to replace the digitizer behind the screen itself which is completely unharmed
Joseph Rabanal I can’t see why not it’s the same IP (dash) I’m guessing you just have the low end with the small screen for the backup camera? The centre panels are all the same size so it will set fine, it’s the couplers to the centre panel I’d be concerned about because these have more features so the wire harness is slightly different!
@@ft86boost76 I was wondering the same thing. I was looking at a 17 Sport but can't stand the radio. I didn't know if I could just swap with a Touring. I wonder if all the harnesses are the same?
Anyone would know where to find online to buy another one like those touch screen, I’m not to sure where to find them. And the dealership was wanting between 800-1000$ for replacing.
