Hey Ya'll! Welcome back to the channel. On today's adventure, we show you how to change the battery in a 2021 Sea Doo GTI SE 170. This is great if you are needing to winterize your jet ski or just looking to replace the battery completely.
NOTE: Since filming the video, I've realized that I describe the order to remove the battery cables incorrectly. for safety sake is better to remove the negative first.
What otherjetski maintenance videos would you like to see?

I have 2 2020 GTI 170s with the double black strap. Let me tell you it was the one of the worst days of my life putting that strap back on. We ended up using a long belt tensioner tool to get it back on. I’m not taking the batteries out this winter. Glad to see Sea Doo fixed the problem. I tore up my forearms doing it. I wish they kept the battery in the “frunk”

Hey if this is a fix on the 2021...Then, I can't imagine the 2020...Out was sort of easy...IN.....Not so much...still struggling with the strap....taking a break to control the bleeding...Next up, dishwashing rubber gloves...cause they're flatter, and I guess I'm gonna get a longer needle nose.....

Hey thanks for this video I’ve been looking for this. Getting ready to winterize my 2021 GTI 130SE today. I have found that some will use a long hose removal tool to help with that strap & save your knuckles. It doesn’t hurt to use some blue painters tape or equivalent to help hold the battery terminal nuts & or screws so they won’t come loose. It also good to have one of the flexible tools that have a grab hook on the end to reach anything that does fall into the hull as everything is stainless or aluminum to help against corrosion on almost all watercraft. I like your Sea Doo & you got a new sub here.

Just a suggestion, if you place a towel across the area you are working and something falls, the towel catches it. It you are working towards the bottom, put the towel on the bottom. If something falls, you can generally pull the towel out slowly to the side and then fold it up the best you can and you will usually find what you dropped as long as it made it's way to the bottom. This has worked for me for 20 years when I though of it one day after dropping another screw. Told this to a friend who was going to remove a starter on his ski and he was glad he did it because 2 screws dropped out of ratchet as he removed them. He did the towel pull/fold to the side and there were the screws in the towel.

Glad I verified what to do when unscrewing the battery (pos first)…was about to start w the neg 👍 On another note, A fellow jet ski owner was playing music from his beached unit..I asked if he was concerned about draining his battery & possibly beaching himself lol, he said he had added an auxiliary battery (so there are two now) and doesnt have to worry about it. I asked the service shop where I purchased my unit (same as the yellow one in this video) about installing the 2nd battery..but they seemed to not have a clue what I was talking about….. When I remove the ‘trunk’ panel, there appears to be a batter slot (like you show in this video w your older model). Is it possible to add an auxiliary battery for the new unit shown in the video??

Thanks for watching. As others have pointed out in the comments, I did get the order of the wires backwards. I don't think it makes much of a difference, but it is slightly safer to remove the negative first. Sorry that this still shows up in the video, there's no way I can edit it at this point. As for the extra battery, yes absolutely. You can install one in the unit just make sure it is secured down in place, and wired in parallel so that the overall voltage does not increase.

The explanation I've heard is it is best to leave the negative until last so you give the electrons an easy and preferred path to ground. If you disconnect the negative first it can cause the electricity to arc to ground, damaging sensitive electronics.

@professionalweekenders
@professionalweekenders Год назад
3 years may not be a bad idea if you are really concerned about getting stuck. I almost always ride with my wife, so one of us can tow the other one home if we have issues. If you want to push the little further, I would recommend just taking the battery into the auto parts store once a year and have them test it to see if it's still good. I made this video more for people who are just interested in removing their battery as part of their winterization schedule.

Nice how-to👍 I have the same seadoo...do you recommend to take the batterie out at winter-times (5 month and Ski stands dry but cold) or would you just connect a charger to the batterie inside the ski? I am new to this...
@professionalweekenders
@professionalweekenders 2 года назад
If you're not going to be riding for a while. It doesn't hurt to at least disconnect it from the ski. That should prevent discharge. Think about the batteries you see on the shelves at the store. They sit like that for months. If you leave it hooked up, chances are it will require a jump, and too many of those is not a good for them.

Ok, 1 more comment on my 2022 GTI 170 SE...After watching other videos, there are some years prior that the battery was in the front of the ski just behind the plastic panel. Why was it moved...To my surprise, when I opened the panel for the first time the other day, the spot is still there for a battery in the Styrofoam. Is it still useable there...I didn't see anywhere to strap it, but why did they move it?

@professionalweekenders
@professionalweekenders 2 года назад
This is the OEM battery I pulled out of mine. I'm not sure what they used in the past. As far as which terminal to remove first, I think the idea is if you remove the negative first, any electrons flowing through your electronics are suddenly left with no escape route and could cause damage. Arching could also occur, shorting connections which were not intended to be made.

Just removed the original battery in my 2021 GTI SE 170, blue battery strap, ski. I have never got more than about 2 years out of good quality YUASA and Dekka batteries... I dont use a tender and maybe I should, but ride about every 2-3 months year round. My battery didn't start my 2021 GTI SE 170 last week at 2 years and 2 weeks old. This video was helpful removing my battery. My ski had the OE battery I never heard of... Haijiu HTX20L-FA. Cant even find anyone selling these. But I am going to buy a YUASA YTX20HL-BS to replace it. I have no idea how Lewis ended up with Dekka OE battery - that is interesting. Maybe Seadoo is shopping for whoever gives the best price, or the dealer wanted to change it before purchase for some reason?

Always disconnect the negative terminal first. I believe you stated wrongly in the video to do the positive first.
