Great demonstration, as always. Thank you. PSA: I’d like to add a note that locks requiring a key to get out are unsafe (fire) and against code in most cases. You should be able to exit by simply turning a one-sided thumb turn.
@seejanedrill
@seejanedrill Год назад

@agate_jcg

My daddy taught me that double-keyed deadbolts are needed to secure doors with glass lites in them. Otherwise people can just break the glass and turn the thumb turn from the outside. Is there another option that gives you both fire safety and break-in security? (Besides "don't have windows in your doors, stupid!")
@helidude3502
@helidude3502 Год назад
When a live meat bag is inside, they can leave the key used for entry in the lock. There can also be one kept nearby.
@helidude3502
@helidude3502 Год назад
Anecdotal story. A local gun shop was having problems passing the fire inspection before opening for business. The fire marshal had issue with the security doors not being able to be opened from the inside. “What if a burglar breaks in through the roof, there is a fire, how will he escape?” The response “He’s stealing from a gun store. Why would you want him to escape?” They were able to open for business shortly thereafter.
@judih.8754
@judih.8754 Год назад
I would think a lock like that would be best in a door with a window in it. That way a thief couldn't break the glass and turn the latch.

To be fair, these locks are not all that secure in general, someone who is able to cut that key is likely also skilled enough to operate a basic lock-picking set.
@Spiker985Studios
@Spiker985Studios Год назад
@@mr.g937 While true, it is *infinitely* easier to get a key cut than to perform a bump or pick the lock All locks are simply meant to dissuade people wanting a quick steal, and to be marginally more secure than your neighbors. Some deadbolts have set screws that are hidden . They wont have an inside cover plate, instead if you remove the side plate that covers the bolt, and look down the bolt shaft. Where the bolt meets the lock housing, you may see an inner and an outer set screw. Usually allen keys will operate these set screws.
