Learn how to remove a school bus heater with step by step instructions! Here are the steps we cover in the video (+ recommend you do!)
1. Turn off coolant to engine
2. Unbolt heater from floor
3. Disconnect wires at heater
4. Disconnect wires at fuse panel
5. Label wires for future reference
6. Remove rubber hoses
7. Dump coolant into a container from hoses and heater
8. Reconnect the hose at the front

Chris thought this idea was absolutely crazy at first, but after a little more thought and research, decided living in a van would be exactly the kind of excitement he would enjoy. We both love seeing new places, spending time outdoors, and don’t need a whole lot of physical things to be happy. In January 2019, after just 8 months of dating, we purchased our 2019 Ram Promaster and began converting it into our future tiny home. One year later, we finished the build and hit the road!

I have watched about half a dozen bus heater removal videos as I have this coming up and I am a bit intimidated…afraid I will I cause calamitous damage. This video is the one I think will be the most helpful for me to pull off successfully. Very nice work in my opinion. Thanks!

Augghhhhh! Was just putting the heater back in to go get the inspection report and the hose splitting up all down the length!!!! Wrapped it with electric tape, no dice! Got leaks, big set back, now searching RU-vid for info on deleting the thing and your video popped up. Thank you so very much, on my way to NAPA.

I think it would be cool and a good idea to explain why you do some of the things you do. I myself am trying hard to find a school bus to convert into a camping/toyhauler and am finding myself curious why you are removing your sources of heat and a/c that are prebuilt into the bus.

That's a great idea, we will try to work that into future videos! One main reason is that the factory heat and AC only work while the bus is running, which is not ideal when trying to sleep or if we're parked in one spot for a while. Also, we removed the factory heat because it was very bulky and we had a specific design in mind. We knew that the heater would be in the way of the furniture we were going to put in later. Similar for the AC units in the bus, plus they're not the prettiest thing to look at.

What did you end up doing with this project? Did you find a different way to connect your hoses to run the front heater? Or did you take everything out?
