Video belongs to Reality How To Productions as part of a Series called "Hook It Up".
UPDATE: my sister encountered a deer tick that was not engorged, when she applied the frontline the tick tried to back out but was "glued" to the dog and she still had to gently pull it off, but in my experience they fell off on their own .
Find more Info On Frontline Here:
www.frontline.com
UPDATE !!
We have recently received feedback from various people on this subject and have been told that the following methods work just as well as this one, although we have not verified this here they are:
- Apply soapy water and the tick will release and fall off.
In some instances with certain tick species, the tick will try to back out but the "glue" they use will prevent them from just "falling off", in this case you will still have to remove tick mechanically but the mouth parts do not stay behind. happy tick removing season to everyone !!!.

This was a great tip! As a medical professional I do not like using chemicals, but ticks are very hard to remove, this is a great way to get it all.Wearing gloves was good for you to protect yourself from the frontline. I will definitely use this the next time I have this problem. Tic diseases are horrible.

FINALLY someone posted a video about how to properly do this. So many videos giving instructions say to take tweezers and just pull away. Anyone with any sense should know that either the head or mouth parts STAY BEHIND, embedded in the skin. What happens after that is anyone's guess. But there you are, with a tick's entire head or mouth parts remaining in the animal's skin! Later, infection and Lord knows what may set in. I've heard many years ago to put medicated oil over the tick and it does the same thing...the tick just backs out on it's own from suffocation. "Frontline" probably accomplishes essentially the same thing. Thanks for posting the most informative video. I hope it's seen by a lot of pet owners. It's a great service.

I hate ticks! We have had many pets over the years and they came home with ticks. At first we thought they were skin tags but one fell off and we saw legs and a face looking back at us through the magnifying glass. This past week I discovered one on our 1 year old cat but I didn't have any drops to put on it. I used long nosed clamps that a doctor would use to tie stitches. I clamped the tick close to the skin and pulled firmly without twisting and was able to remove the pest. Our cat seemed to know what was happening as he remained still and was very appreciative. After the removal we cleansed the bite area with peroxide and put some antibiotic ointment on it,

Unfortunately, any chemical application applied directly to a tick can result in it regurgitating into its host. That might not be a big deal with a dog tick, but it could increase disease risk with a vector like a deer tick. Getting an inexpensive tick remover tool over a tweezer is your best bet.
@samsmith3968
@samsmith3968 2 года назад
Depends. If the tick is close to the eyes, your dogs will resist n can hurt themselves fighting you off. I know this. It happened to me. My dog ended up at the vets office.

I cannot thank you enough for your video/advice! I was petting our 20lb schnauzer mix today and notice an engorged tick by his right eye. It's actually a bad idea to put anything on a tick to remove it. Chemicals and even vaseline can cause the tick to regurgitate as it backs out and this stomach contents is what contains potential pathogens that cause infection. The best way is just to grasp the tick firmly as close to the skin as possible with tweezers or a tick remover and pull it out.

I'm a life time critter owner and I've been using Frontine since it came out. I have never thought of this! As soon as you mentioned it, it was an instant face palm. I live in an area heavy with ticks, fleas, & warbles and we definitely notice if we forget a month of the Frontline. This will be great from my dogs but my cats might hate me more than when I put the Frontline on regularly. GREAT VIDEO! Thank you for being smarter than some of us pet owners. Only suggestion, with it being a chemical and close to the eye use gauze pads or super absorbent cloth/towel over the eye as added protection for the pet. Also remember pet safety comes first, it's less expensive with insurance to treat us than a vet bill any day.

I used this method on my dog. She had a tic about the size of a small pea on her ear. Just a drop of front line right above the tic and it backed right out. No pain or stress on the dog and I was sure the whole tic came out. Thank you for the video but my dog thanks you too.

Ok! So thank you so much, just did it after watching your vid and worked like a charm. Tic pulled himself out within about 30seconds and was dead soon after. I did however tweak your idea a little, I applied the tic and "I use Hartz because it is way cheaper" flea liquid to a q-tip and put it directly onto the tic, and continued in a counter clockwise motion "unscrewing", took about 30sec he popped right out and was on the end of the q-tip for easy execution. Thanks again! I love no-nonsense real deal advise with out all the BS.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! My vet, who is a neighbor, says that ticks are active until and unless the temp has been below freezing for several days. Here, in Maryland, ticks are active into December. Since I am terrified of the Frontline Insecticide (I made the mistake of reading the labeling - a professional hazard), I tried avoiding it this month. Stuey has picked up a tick on his belly. I will try your method after I ask my vet if it is OK to place the toxic stuff on his stomach skin.

Our dog had a tick last night. I googled and found a sight with these instructions: Put on gloves, take your finger and rub circles around the tick's body. The rubbing should cause the tick's body to move around. It should drop off intact within a minute. The tick let go of our dog after about 20 seconds of rubbing it in circles. If this doesn't work, the sight recommended removing it with tweezers.

Thank you so much for making this video, IT WORKED! I literally just tried this with my dog who had a deer tick in her ear. We use K9 Advantix II. really awesome idea, i just did it and it works great, i also had some frontline laying around my house, my tan Labrador had 3 bloodsucking ticks grouped together right in between his shoulder blades, its like the ticks know where the dog cannot reach, but my dog is light and i caught them early but they wouldn't release when i pulled them and my dog was squirming and crying as i pulled , so i looked it up and found this very helpful video, thanks for this, i don't apply frontline in the winter either and they dont say anything about that in their commercials or on the box.Thanks a lot for this great video saved me a lot of trouble.

Just tried this on 2 ticks on my pit-bull, Worked Great !!! only took one drop and the deer tick went free falling, it was on my dogs stomach area which is a bit sensitive, i did wash it afterwards as i am not a fan of chemicals, but i live in a wooded area and the ticks have reeked massacre on my poor thin haired pals in the last couple years, once last year the mouth-parts of the tick stood behind cause my friend said it was good idea to burn the tick with a lit cigarette, the area became really infected and i had to visit the vet to get antibiotics and stuff which cost me $250. Not a good idea to use front line that close to the eye. If it gets in the dogs eye it could cause huge issues. Don't try this at home. Not a good idea for everyone to do this. He was lucky dog did not shake its head or get the stuff in her eye. Not something that you should do.
@herpderpmonkey
@herpderpmonkey 9 лет назад
Katrina Gauld seriously... Your comment should be top of the page. There's a reason why topicals like frontline/advantix/etc tell you to apply to the skin on the back where the dog wont be able to lick it. It's poisonous if ingested so getting it directly into the body through the eyes/nose isn't a great idea either.

***** I understand why people are telling this because the normal usage of the anti flee liquid is put on the neck so it can help get rid of flees, etc but that is normal usage and takes time. When a tick is on them and you see it, well I believe you did it well, you soaked & doused the damn tick and that tick did not like it. You can always treat your dog after. If I have to deal with a tick and I hope not with my dog, I will keep some of this around and try it out. Thanks
